‘Invincible’: Who Is Mohawk Mark? Meet the Evil Alternate Mark Grayson

Share:

The Universe of ‘Invincible’ is home to plenty of alternative versions of Mark Grayson, and not all of them are benevolent and well-meaning; in fact, most of them are extremely cruel and evil, buying into Nolan’s attempted propaganda of taking over the planet Earth. One specific version we’re going to analyze today is “Mohaw Mark,” so let’s see what we can dig up about him.

  • Article Breakdown:
  • Mohawk Mark is an alternative variant of Mark Grayson introduced during the ‘Invincible War’ storyline in ‘Invicible’ #58.
  • Mohawk Mark was extremely evil and sought to subjugate Earth, at one point even becoming the emperor of Viltrumites after Earth was conquered.
  • Mohawk Mark was killed by Robot after a failed attempt to take over the world.

Mohawk Mark was brought to the mainstream dimension by Angstrom Levy

The story of Invicible War actually begins when Mark killed Angstrom Levy. Angstrom, however, survives his “death” and seeks treatment in another dimension for his injuries. Later, Angstrom releases 16 alternate versions of Mark into the original Mark’s reality. He instructs these alternates to travel worldwide, destroying cities, as part of a deal they made. One of the alternates that Angstrom summoned to mainstream reality was the Mohawk Mark, which is easily distinguishable from other Marks by his mohawk.

Mohawk Mark’s life was pretty much the same as the mainstream version of Mark, but he grew disillusioned with protecting Earth without gain. Omni-Man recruited him, leading Mohawk Mark to believe the Teen Team would help him conquer the planet. After killing Rex and others, Mohawk Mark became the Viltrumite emperor. Thragg rebelled, and the Viltrumites took over Earth, establishing a high-tech citadel in the Pentagon. Conquest guarded the planet, while Anissa and Lucan assumed prominent roles under Mohawk Mark’s rule. As you can see, Mohawk Mark was extremely evil, and he fulfilled his role in every sense of the word, even surpassing it.

Sometime after assuming the throne of the Viltrum Empire, Mohawk Mark was contacted by Angstrom Levy, who offered him a deal to recruit him in Invincible War. Angstrom was supposed to get his vengeance on mainstream Mark while Mohawk Mark gets the opportunity to expand his empire beyond the limits of his dimension.

What happened to Mohawk Mark?

Well, the Mohawk Mark failed to capture the earth and died a pretty gruesome death at the hands of Robot. While mainstream Mark and Mohawk Mark were arguing about what to do with Angstrom Levy, who attempted to screw both of them, Robot seized the opportunity to get rid of both Mainstream Mark and Mohawk Mark. The mainstream Robot, realizing the threat posed by the mainstream Mark, activates a lethal sonic pulse, causing discomfort to both Mohawk Mark and the mainstream Mark. To eliminate witnesses, the mainstream Robot kills Mohawk Mark’s scientists and launches a bomb into Mohawk Mark’s mouth.

The explosion, occurring in Mohawk Mark’s vulnerable internal organs, results in his death, prompting the mainstream Robot to proceed with killing Angstrom Levy and stranding the mainstream Mark in Mohawk Mark’s dimension.

How powerful was Mohawk Mark?

Well, Mohawk Mark was as powerful as any other version of Mark Grayson, maybe even more powerful since he did have more experience fighting and was a lot more cruel than the mainstream version, meaning that he didn’t exactly hold back in the fight. But in any case, Mohawk Mark had all the powers and abilities of standard Viltrumite, as well as their weaknesses, judging by the way he died.
