Is Buggy a Yonko?
We don’t want to give you unnecessary details on the Four Emperors you already know; we’re just going to restate that, at the beginning of the Wano Country arc, the Four Emperors were made up by Shanks, Blackbeard, Kaidou, and Big Mom. At the end of the arc, these names are going to change. Before we actually continue, there is another thing we have to disclaim.
Namely, Buggy was not present during the Wano Arc, i.e., he played absolutely no role in the events from this arc and had absolutely nothing to do with what happened to Kaido and Big Mom. We know that after the dissolution of the Seven Warlords system, Buggy’s Delivery was confronted by a Marine fleet led by Stainless, making Buggy furious at this turn of events. He ordered his men to prepare to fight but secretly planned to flee by himself in a typical Buggy move. This is everything we know about Buggy from this period so we can now continue with the story of the downfall of Kaido and Big Mom, which is relevant to Buggy becoming a Yonko.
In Wano Country, Luffy sees the harmful consequences of the dual governance between Kaido and the Shogun Kurozumi Orochi on this country. Kaido shows up shortly after Jack’s introduction as a giant Eastern-type dragon, blessed with destructive breath. The Emperor is drunk and offers Shutenmaru to join his crew.
After using his breath to violently destroy the ruins of Oden Castle where the Straw Hat Pirates and their allies were staying, Luffy retaliates and attempts to defeat the beast that takes every hit from him, forcing him back into human shape. But even with the power of Gear 4, he failed to cause any damage to the Emperor who neutralized him with a violent blow of his club. Nevertheless, Kaido recognizes Luffy’s power and determination and wishes to break his spirit in hopes that he will join his crew, so he makes the decision to imprison the Straw Hat.
As announced by telephone, Big Mom arrives in the Pays des Wa. Kaido, furious, orders his men to prevent the Empress and her crew from disembarking, but to no avail. Eventually, it wasn’t until the last moment that King stepped in and knocked her back with a mighty punch, knocking the boat off the top of the waterfall and sending Big Mom to the bottom of the ocean.
The Empress wakes up in a state of amnesia on a beach in Kuri. She is picked up by Chopper, Tama, Kiku, and Momonosuke, then taken to Okobore Village, where Tsuru and the rest of the townspeople take care of her and offer her what little food they have: a simple red bean soup. . Unfortunately, that’s not enough for him.
Taking advantage of her hunger, Chopper and his friends drive her to Udon, the prison where Monkey D. Luffy is imprisoned, and tell her that there is soup there. However, they had no idea that this lie was actually true and that the udon actually had red bean soup, Queen’s. Queen tries to protect her food, but even with amnesia, it only takes Big Mom two hits to defeat Kaido’s ally.
Then, much to her horror, Big Mom discovers that Luffy ate all the red bean soup last night. Disappointed at not being able to bring it back to the village and share it with everyone in town as thanks for his generosity, she attacks the Straw Hat Pirate and Hyogoro. In pursuit, Big Mom plunders the prison of Udon and ends up being violently beaten on the head under pretext by Queen.
She then regains her memory and as she was about to attack a paralyzed queen, she falls asleep. Taking advantage of this, Kaidou’s men feed her several powerful sedatives, then bind her with several chains of sea granite and take her to Onigashima, the hideout of Kaido and his crew.
Kaido and Big Mom then begin a life-and-death battle that rocks the entire island, then decide to make a temporary peace and unite their crews to take over the world before continuing to fight. However, the news of their alliance also causes Marco and Izo of the Whitebeard Pirates to accompany Nekomamushi to Wano County to aid the Ninja-Pirate-Mink-Samurai Alliance, with Marco preventing the Big Mom Pirates from destroying Wano.
During the Onigashima raid, the two Emperors Big Mom and Kaidou are defeated by the Ninjas-Pirates-Minks-Samurai alliance, and new Emperors are recognized in the world, them being Monkey D. Luffy and Buggy the Clown. It is currently unknown how Buggy the Clown became one of the Yonko but much like many details from Buggy’s life, the thing seems to be purely coincidental.
