James Spader Returns as Ultron in Marvel’s ‘Vision,’ with Elizabeth Olsen Potentially Reprising Scarlet Witch Role
In October 2022, it was announced that a second WandaVision spinoff series centered on White Vision was in development, with Jac Schaeffer serving as head writer and executive producer. By May 2023, Eileen Shim had joined the writing team.
However, Schaeffer shifted his focus to Agatha All Along, and the series is now led by Terry Matalas, known for Star Trek: Picard. With Matalas at the helm, Marvel has greenlit its first new live-action series in nearly two years, marking a strategic shift in its TV production for Disney+.
The show is scheduled for release in 2026, with Paul Bettany returning as White Vision. He won’t be the only familiar face, as James Spader is also confirmed to reprise his role as Ultron. Spader, who originally voiced Ultron in the 2015 film Avengers: Age of Ultron, may have a more involved role in the new series beyond just voice work.
According to Deadline, Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch might also make an appearance, though this hasn’t been officially confirmed. In the WandaVision finale, White Vision was created by S.W.O.R.D., and Wanda’s Vision attempts to restore his memories using the Mind Stone, sparking a philosophical debate about what makes a person the “real” Vision. White Vision eventually regains his memories and leaves without explanation, leaving his future uncertain.
The upcoming series is expected to take place after the events of WandaVision and is rumored to be part of a trilogy, with the second installment being Agatha All Along and Marvel’s White Vision project as the third.
