Jeffrey Dean Morgan Says He’d Undo Controversial ‘The Walking Dead’ Moment If He Could Change One Thing

Jeffrey Dean Morgan recently opened up about one of the most talked-about moments in The Walking Dead. In a chat with co-star Lauren Cohan on First We Feast, Morgan said that if he could change one storyline in the series, he wouldn’t have killed Glenn.
The scene where Negan kills Glenn was taken straight from the comics, but it shocked viewers when it aired on TV.
Many fans felt it was too violent, and a large number stopped watching the show afterward. The drop in ratings was noticeable. Even though the death stayed true to the original comic, the fallout was something the show never fully recovered from.
“I’m just gonna say this, it would have made both our lives easier, maybe not kill Glenn,” Morgan said during the interview. Cohan agreed, and Morgan added, “It would have shifted the stories in a lot of ways, but you wouldn’t be mad at me.” They laughed about how their characters might’ve been friends if things had gone differently. Morgan also said that Glenn probably would have died later on anyway, but at least it wouldn’t have been by Negan’s hand.

Glenn’s death also meant the end of actor Steven Yeun’s time on the show. Yeun didn’t return for flashbacks or dream sequences, something many former cast members did. After leaving The Walking Dead, Yeun found major success. He became the first Asian-American nominated for a Best Actor Oscar and won an Emmy for his role in Beef. He also voices the lead in Amazon’s hit animated series Invincible.
Over time, the series has shrunk. Right now, it’s down to two spinoffs: Dead City, with Maggie and Negan, and Daryl Dixon. The Daryl-focused series continues to get renewed, but it’s not clear how long Dead City will last.
Looking back, many fans and even some of the cast feel that killing Glenn may have hurt the show more than it helped. Even if it matched the comic, it changed the tone of the series and turned off a lot of viewers.
In my opinion, this moment marked a major turning point for The Walking Dead, and not in a good way. The show never quite bounced back. What do you think? Did Glenn’s death ruin the show for you? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
