Jujutsu Kaisen: Did Kusakabe Die in Shibuya? Here’s What Happened!
Jujutsu Kaisen is a series with many characters; some of these have been introduced earlier in the series, while others have been introduced later. The character who will be in focus today has been seen in Jujutsu Kaisen 0, but he was properly introduced at the beginning of the Shibuya Indicent Arc. He is Atsuya Kusakabe, and you’ll probably remember that we’ve already introduced him to you here on Fiction Horizon, so in this article, we have decided to tell you what actually happened to him in Shibuya. We know he was there when the meteor struck, but did he die? Keep reading to find out!
Kusakabe was with Panda in Shibuya when Sukuna approached them
Atsuya and Panda were in front of the new south entrance of Shibuya Station on the JR Line on October 31, the day the Shibuya Incident started. Panda and Atsuya talk about how important it is for them to minimize any harm and Panda’s role in this operation. Atsuya reassures Panda when he is concerned about the public by saying he checked beyond the curtain and found nothing wrong. Furthermore, Atsuya says he will not be coming back because he sensed multiple S-Grade cursed spirits behind the curtain. Later, Atsuya and Panda rush to the barrier to defend the non-sorcerers when transfigured people begin attacking the civilians.
Atsuya and the others enter the curtain and hear Yuji exclaim that Satoru has been sealed. Kusakabe wants to stay out of harm’s way, so Atsuya and Panda keep moving around Shibuya in search of weak opponents. Atsuya persuades Panda to continue looking for those in peril since they are crucial, even after Panda suggests that they go help Satoru. Then Atsuya learns they will soon have to go farther into Shibuya. Then, in order to avoid having to descend to the lowest floors, where he might be killed, Atsuya intends to appear to be lost inside the station.
Atsuya asks to hear Panda’s side of the story when Toshihisa Negi and Manami Suda approach him and Panda and demand that they surrender, saying he cannot just give up like that. After giving the two an opportunity to clarify their positions, Atsuya decides to face them, taking his time to avoid encountering any S-Grade cursed spirits.
As Atsuya gets ready to fight, he is stopped by Ryomen Sukuna’s bout with Jogo. When Atsuya and Panda attempt to escape, the two enemies stop them. Atsuya vanquishes the opponents and starts alerting the others when Sukuna appears. Sukuna threatens to kill them if they escape before he tells them so, as Gojo’s gigantic meteor is rushing towards them; when Sukuna gives the order, they escape, and this is the last we see of him initially. So, did he survive?
What happens to Kusakabe after the Shibuya Arc?
Yes, we can confirm that Atsuya Kusakabe did survive. He managed to be quick enough to escape the meteor and ended up beneath a pile of rubble, relatively unharmed. He was just lying there when Panda found him, probably waiting for the trouble to end. He did not want to fight, but when Panda dragged him out, he was forced to participate in the incident once again, whether he wanted to or not.
He and Panda arrived then Kenjaku entered the battlefield and fought against the Kyoto students. It was an intense fight, but when Kenjaku activated Maximum: Uzumaki, the students were bound to be defeated, but this is when Kusakabe intervened. He jumped in and saved them from death, stopping Kenjaku’s attack. He was later frozen by Uraume but was freed from that as well and survived.
He is present during the later arcs and as of the time of writing, he is currently participating in the collective effort against Sukuna in Shinjuku, which has yet to be resolved in the series. And that is, more or less, Kusakabe’s whole story in the series.
