Jujutsu Kaisen: Here’s What Gojo Is Scared Of!
Even non-fans of Jujutsu Kaisen have probably heard of Satoru Gojo, as the guy is not only the most popular character from the series as a whole, but he is also one of the most popular anime characters in general. Gojo’s fanbase is such that he has transcended the series itself and has become more popular than the protagonist, Yuji Itadori himself. Now, Gojo is a character we have talked about a lot, but there is still more to tell here and in this article, we are going to go back to a moment from Jujutsu Kaisen 0, when Gojo revealed what he was afraid of. Or, did he? Keep reading to find out!
Gojo is seemingly afraid of women, but that seems to be an overstatement
A scene people often refer to when talking about Satoru Gojo and his fears is a scene from Jujutsu Kaisen 0, the prequel to the original Jujutsu Kaisen manga. Satoru Gojo is present in both of these series, and while he was never the main character, most people think he is because he is the series’ most popular character by far. Fans of the franchise will know Gojo as the strongest character in the whole series (although this has been refuted, seemingly, during the Shinjuku Showdown, despite the fans’ hopes of Gojo making a miraculous return), which is relevant for this article as the strongest characters rarely have fears.
But, there is a specific scene from Jujutsu Kaisen 0 that seemingly reveals what Gojo was afraid of. We know that the prequel manga is about Yuta Okkotsu, Rika, and Kenjaku. Rika, who was a curse attached to Yuta, was one of the most powerful curses in the whole series and it was she who helped Yuta become so powerful. Now, Gojo had known about Rika, but he had not met her in person until one specific moment, after Yuta’s first mission.
He observed Rika and her demeanor, commenting on how he had finally seen her in person, describing her as freaky. He then says the following thing:

As you can see, with a laugh, Gojo comments on how women are scary. This prompted fans to think that Gojo is actually afraid of women, but this is definitely an overstatement, and this comment has to be taken as a joke. So no, Gojo is not really afraid of women, and this comment was based on seeing Rika; we know that he actually behaves normally (okay, normally for him!) around women and that he is not really afraid of them.
But, wait… he’s not afraid of women, right? So, what is Satoru Gojo actually afraid of? We’re going to analyze that in the next section of this article!
His true fear has not been specified, but…
Now that we have established that Gojo is not afraid of women, we can try to determine what he is actually afraid of. Now, we can immediately confirm that Gojo’s fear has not been defined or confirmed by Akutami, so we don’t have any official data on this, which means that what we are going to write is not official, although it is based on what Akutami wrote in the manga. So, what is it?
Well, the first thing we think that Gojo is afraid of is not being strong enough. He has been described as the strongest person in the world since he was born, so it was a hard burden to carry. This is why Gojo exhausted himself and pushed himself to the limit more than once to prove that he was, indeed, the strongest one.
But why was that important? Well, as the strongest person in the world, he had the duty to protect those close to him, and after Riko’s tragedy, Gojo became even more protective of his friends and allies, and we’ve seen that losing them was a general concern for him.
So, we’d say that Gojo’s fear is actually not being strong enough to protect those he cares about.
