Jujutsu Kaisen: Is Choso Going To Die? Here’s What We Know!
Choso is a powerful character from the Jujutsu Kaisen series and is the leader of the nine Cursed Womb: Death Paintings. He is, thus, a materialized cursed object and was initially introduced as a villain in the series who was associated with Kenjaku’s and Mahito’s group. Although he initially wanted to avenge his brothers by killing Yuji Itadori, he ultimately spared his life after realizing that the two of them were actually related. He then became an ally of the heroes and fought on their side later. Choso is currently alive in the series, but is he going to die? Keep reading to find out what we think.
Choso is currently alive and well in the series
Choso was initially presented as a villain in the series. Of the three Cursed Womb: Death Paintings (1-3) that we have seen thus far in the series, he is the most humanoid, the oldest, and the leader. He is cruel and cold-blooded, although he has a great devotion to his younger brothers. He can do anything he wants and has complete control over his blood since he has Noritoshi Kamo’s Innate Technique. Compared to Noritoshi, he has much easier access to it because he can produce blood straight from his cursed energy. He first went to Shibuya to join Mahito’s group in order to exact revenge for the murders of his younger brothers.
Seeing Itadori there, Choso immediately went into the offensive, and one of the best clashes in the Shibuya Incident Arc began, with Choso immediately demonstrating his blood manipulation skills. The fight was an epic one and while Itadori gave it his all, he was defeated, but just as Choso was about to kill him, he stopped and retreated. He then had a crisis and realized that Itadori was actually his brother, after which he faced Kenjaku himself. He would later join the heroes after Shibuya and participated on their side, initially to protect Tengen and then in the Culling Game as well.
Choso has several important battles. He fought Itadori, he fought Kenjaku twice, and he fought Naoya Zenin; the latter came close to killing Choso in an epic fight, but the cursed spirit survived and is currently engaged in fighting Sukuna. While this confirms that Choso is, indeed, alive, some fans think that the character’s story is coming to an end, and we are going to explain why that is in the next section of this article, so stick with us until the end.
There is a running theory that Akutami might kill off Choso very soon
Now, as we have explained above, Choso is, indeed, alive and well in the series. He has had some truly amazing battles and was severely injured, but Choso is still alive, and he is currently engaging Sukuna, although he is not one of the principal fighters. And while fighting Sukuna is always a risk, Choso isn’t currently in the forefront, and in that aspect, there is a solid chance that he might actually survive the fight if things don’t change suddenly (the focus is currently on Itadori, so there is no reason to involve Choso directly), but some fans think otherwise.
But take a look at these:

These are two new sketches of Choso provided by Gege Akutami during the Jump Festa 2024, which were released in mid-December 2023. They don’t point to anything special and are related to the stage play, but some fans are reading something here.
Namely, Gege has taken a sudden interest in Choso, but it’s not just Gege – thanks to the Shibuya Incident, fans have also raised their interest in Choso, who has now become one of the more popular characters in the series. We all know that Gege dislikes when the fans are hyped over a character, and we also know that Gege does not shy away from killing fan-favorite characters. Seeing the increased interest in Choso and these new sketches, some fans think that Gege has something in store for Choso or that he is simply keeping an eye on him.
This doesn’t have to mean anything, but some fans think that these sketches, combined with Choso’s rising popularity, might motivate Gege to kill him in the upcoming chapters. This doesn’t seem likely based on the manga’s progress, but Gege has a relatively easy way out here if he wants to kill him – Yuji’s life could be in danger, and Choso could jump in to save him from Sukuna. It would be in line with Choso’s character and would make sense in terms of the narrative, so if Akutami really does decide to kill off Choso, there is a relatively easy way to do it.
Having said all of this, there is nothing in the story that would point to Choso dying, seeing how the story is not focused on him at all, so there is really no valid in-universe reason for him dying at this moment. Whether Gege decides to create one because he dislikes Choso’s popularity is something we cannot predict, but as things stand now – the fans are just reading too much into this. But that could change in the future.
