Jujutsu Kaisen: Mahoraga’s Adaptation Ability Explained!

Jujutsu Kaisen: Mahoraga's Adaptation Ability Explained!
Share:

Eight-Handled Sword Divergent Sila Divine General Mahoraga is a shikigami part of Megumi’s Ten Shadows Technique, one of the Jujutsu Kaisen’s most powerful techniques. Mahoraga was first introduced during the Shibuya Incident Arc, but the shikigami will play a major role in the series later, despite being defeated in his first appearance. Mahoraga is an exceptionally powerful entity owing to his (in)famous adaptation ability and in this article, we are going to explain that ability. You are going to find out why it is so powerful, as well as why it is so dangerous. This article is going to be your go-to guide to the topic.

  • Article Breakdown:
  • Mahoraga is the only non-animal shikigami of the Ten Shadows Technique, and the only one naturally tied to the Ten Shadows Technique itself and was not created individually.
  • Mahoraga is exceptionally powerful, and to date, no sorcerer has been able to tame Mahoraga, not even the most powerful members of the Zenin Clan. The only ones who were able to fight Mahoraga were Sukuna and Gojo.
  • Mahoraga’s power comes mostly from the shikigami’s infamous adaptation ability, which grants Mahoraga, given enough time, to adapt to any technique it is faced with, becoming immune to it.

Mahoraga’s adaptation ability makes the shikigami nigh invincible

The Ten Shadows Technique is an inherited Zenin clan technique with which the user can call ten separate shikigami through the shadows; it is Megumi Fushiguro’s signature technique. The process of making a shikigami is not well understood. It is implied that to create the shikigami, the user will have to mold their own cursed energy, and to do so, they will need to have an idea of what they want their creation to look like. Before the user can control the shikigami, it must go through a ceremony of purification or exorcism after creation.

Among the ten shikigami, Eight-Handled Sword Divergent Sila Divine General Mahoraga is a proper monstrosity in every sense of the word. It is not shaped into a shikigami by someone, and as far was seen, but is innate to the technique, as the legends of Eight-Handled Sword Divergent Sila Divine General Mahoraga have been passed via generation.

Mahoraga is exceptionally powerful, and due to the fact that no one has tamed it, users of the Ten Shadows Technique summon Mahoraga only as a last resort in battle. Why? Well, since they cannot control it, they risk Mahoraga killing or seriously injuring them as well, and that is why they won’t use him lightly.

And yes, Mahoraga truly is a powerhouse. He doesn’t have any special powers, but he is physically strong, exceptionally resilient, and has such quick regenerative abilities that it is very difficult to actually injure him. Aside from that, Mahoraga also always carries the Sword of Extermination with him, which is tied to his arm and is a special weapon filled with positive energy that is specially crafted for fighting cursed spirits.

And while this sounds like something formidable, you have to remember one additional thing – this is not all Mahoraga has to offer. Namely, the gist of Mahoraga’s power is his exceptional adaptation ability. Namely, as the series explains, Mahoraga has “the ability to adapt to any phenomena.” This ability is related to the ring above his head, and as it turns, Mahoraga can adapt to an ability. The more complex the ability, the more turns the wheel has to make (e.g., it needed only one to adapt to Sukuna’s Dismantle, but it needed more to adapt to Gojo’s technique later in Shinjuku), but given enough time, Mahoraga will adapt to any technique he is attacked with.

In defensive terms, it will adapt to the technique and become immune to it or be able to defend against it. In inoffensive terms, Mahoraga will be able to breach through his opponent’s defensive technique after adapting to it.

So, does this make Mahoraga invincible? No, not technically. One simply has to be quick enough. If Mahoraga is attacked quickly enough with an attack he has not adapted to, he will be exorcised, but only a small number of characters possess the strength to actually do so – Sukuna is one, Gojo as well, and possibly Kenjaku, but the latter has to be confirmed. And this is the gist of Mahoraga’s ability, as well as why this shikigami is so dangerous.
