One Piece is an anime that certainly has its fair share of strong and powerful characters. And while its protagonist, Monkey D. Luffy, is certainly among them, some characters might be even more powerful than the cheerful and quirky protagonist of the manga. In this article, we will analyze one such potential character, as we will pit Luffy against Queen, the second most powerful member of Kaido’s crew, right after King. The two almost clashed in the series, and in this article, we will reveal to you what would happen if the two of them actually did clash.

There is no doubt that Luffy could defeat Queen in battle. Namely, Luffy defeated Queen’s boss Kaido in a fight after activating Gear 5 and the true powers of his Devil Fruit, the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika. But even before, Luffy was strong enough to defeat Queen, despite the latter constantly underestimating him.

The rest of this article will further elaborate on the above-given answer, as we will compare Luffy and Queen in more detail. Through several categories, you will see who the stronger of the two is and why our answer is like it is, i.e., why Monkey D. Luffy would ultimately be able to defeat Queen in a direct fight, were it to happen.

Physical powers

Luffy is endowed with immense physical strength, enough to lift gigantic boulders and shatter steel with his bare hands. His physical strength derives in part from the workouts his grandfather Garp subjected him to as a child, where he survived critical circumstances and used to face huge ferocious beasts. Even as a child, he defeated grown-ups and endured Polchemy’s torture.

His physical strength is such as to overwhelm the strongest fugitives of the eastern sea and rivals even that of the fish-men, as demonstrated in the battles against Arlong and Hody Jones, whose strength was even higher than that of the average of their race. In particular against Hody, after two years of training, he showed himself clearly superior, so much so that he defeated him despite being powered by Energy Steroids.

Queen has demonstrated quick enough reflexes to easily parry Luffy’s Gomu Gomu no Gun and toss it to the side. He has extremely superhuman endurance, as seen by his ability to stay awake and even stand up immediately after being attacked twice by Big Mom. In addition, Queen is exceptionally quick despite his enormous height and weight.

And while Queen is a powerhouse in terms of raw strength, Luffy was able to defeat Queen’s boss, Kaido, which means that Luffy is now stronger than Queen, which is why he gets this point.

Devil Fruit

Luffy ate Gomu Gomu Devil Fruit which made him rubber, allowing him to stretch his body parts and hit enemies from a long distance. Although, as a child, he had problems in fully controlling his power, after intense training of over ten years, Luffy could use the fruit to exponentially improve his physical strength and agility, thus making him a dangerous opponent. It was later revealed that his Gomu Gomu no mi is actually the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, which gave Luffy even more powers and abilities.

Despite his fighting style sometimes appearing improvised, it is precisely his creativity that makes him an unpredictable opponent, capable of overturning critical situations by adapting from time to time to combat. His rubber body also makes him extremely durable and immune to marine bullets, normal punches, and even electricity. However, he is not immune to swords and knives, as well as to dehydration or poison, although, after the fight with Magellan, he becomes immune to a wide variety of these.

The ancient Zoan-style Devil Fruit known as Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Brachiosaurus, which Queen ingested, allowed him to change into a brachiosaurus. After he is fully converted, Queen grows enormously, outstripping even Big Mom, who stands at nearly eight meters. He is able to use the brachiosaurus’ distinctively long neck in battle, mostly to strike opponents that are far away. His physical weight has also significantly grown, which he may exploit to her advantage because few opponents can resist the force of his enormous, altered body slamming into them.

Yeah, the Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Brachiosaurus is an enormously powerful Devil Fruit that would give Queen the advantage over most of his opponents, but against Luffy’s Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika? It wouldn’t really do much, so that is why Luffy wins this.

Haki

Rayleigh trained Luffy to become an expert Haki user. He knows how to use the Observation Haki, which he instinctively used for the first time against Mihawk, avoiding a swing that would have cut off his arms. He also mastered the Armament Haki at high levels, making it an essential part of Gear Fourth. Using this ability combined with the powers of his own devil fruit, Luffy can also ignite his fists thanks to his friction.

He also knows how to use the rarest form of Haki, the Royal Haki, which is the one he prefers. With it, he could knock out fifty thousand fish-men at once. During his confrontation with Kaido, he proved to be one of the very few individuals able to use her to enhance his attacks. His third fight against the emperor also ripped through the sky.

We know that Queen is able to use Kenbunshoku Haki and Busoshoku Haki, as we have seen him use them in the series. We also know that he cannot use Royal Haki. As far as any specific details are concerned, we don’t really have them, as Queen’s Haki has never been at the forefront of the series, which is why this is all we have.

This one is quite clear, and it is understandable why we have to award Luffy the point here. Namely, Luffy knows three types of Haki, while Queen knows only two, so Luffy wins this one.

Weapons

Luffy rarely uses weapons in combat, mostly due to his inexperience and inability to use them. In his childhood, he wielded a metal pipe, which is probably the most sophisticated weapon he successfully handled. In Arlong Park, Luffy briefly tried to fight with swords but failed miserably.

One of the two cutlasses Queen wears around his waist, which is strapped to the side since he tried to cut through Sanji’s torso, was shattered. Moreover, Queen has access to unique collars that release blades from within. Twenty years ago, Queen attacked The Nine Red Pods with some kind of bat. Queen attacked X Drake with a machine gun in Onigashima. Drake’s own response suggests that the bullets from that weapon are uncommon. Zoro eventually destroyed the weapon.

Queen uses a variety of cybernetic modifications to his body to substantially aid him in battle. He asserts that he is a cyborg with technological prowess beyond that of even Vegapunk, the greatest scientific mind ever and Queen’s former companion. The numerous high-tech weaponry and mechanisms that Queen has put inside his body are frequently used in conjunction with his devil fruit powers.

His upgrades include rocket launchers, metal claws, laser beams, and extending mechanized limbs. He has a machine gun, fake fangs, and a laser beam cannon on the inside of his mouth when he transforms into a brachiosaurus, the latter of which is a particularly advanced piece of technology that great engineers like Franky and Vegapunk have only imitated. He also has artificial fangs on the end of his brachiosaurus tail. In addition, a mechanical cable that is integrated into his neck area allows him to expand his brachiosaurus neck’s already great reach. He also features voice-activated rocket launchers on his sides and retractable needles in his teeth.

Although Queen relies on his weapons and cybernetic enhancements, even if his skills were not as good, he would still have the upper hand against Luffy in this category.

When people see Queen and then Luffy, they might think that the Straw Hat would stand no chance against the powerful member of Kaido’s crew. But Monkey D. Luffy would definitely be able to defeat Queen. He is more powerful and has a stronger Devil Fruit, and while Queen wouldn’t go down without a fight, he couldn’t really do much against the protagonist of One Piece. Luffy was able to defeat Kaido after attaining new powers, which means that he could definitely defeat Queen as well.
