MHA: How Old Is Kurogiri? Here’s What We Think

One of the most interesting characters that we met in the events of My Hero Academia is Kurogiri, who acted as the caretaker of Tomura Shigaraki and was the villain that had the power to create warp portals. However, Kurogiri was captured and was revealed to have been created from the remains of Oboro Shirakumo and is actually a High-End Nomu. So, if that’s the case, how old would Kurogiri be?

Oboro Shirakumo died when he, Eraser Head, and Present Mic were just 17 years old. As such, if All For One took his corpse and used it right away to create Kurogiri, it is possible that he could be around 13 to 14 years old right now because Eraser Head and Present Mic are already 31.

The side-story involving the relationship of Eraser Head and Present Mic with Kurogiri is one of the most interesting parts of the My Hero Academia storyline. Of course, they already know that he used to be one of their best friends and had been transformed into a Nomu. So, with that said, let’s look into Kurogiri and how old he could be in the current My Hero Academia storyline.

Who Is Kurogiri?

During the earlier part of the My Hero Academia storyline, we were introduced to a powerful villain with the ability to create warp portals seemingly out of nowhere. This villain allowed the League of Villains to infiltrate UA High School and cause havoc on the campus during the early part of the storyline. This villain’s name is Kurogiri.

Kurogiri acted as the caretaker of Tomura Shigaraki, who we know is the leader of the League of Villains. He appears as a cloud of black smoke shaped like a man and wears formal clothing. However, after the heroes captured Kurogiri during the progression of the storyline, it is revealed that he was someone close to Eraser Head and Present Mic back when they were still students of UA.

Eraser Head and Present Mic were close friends with another student named Oboro Shirakumo. The trio were very close during their high school years and were actually looking to start their hero agency after graduating from UA. However, Oboro died back when he was still a student. His death significantly impacted Eraser Head and Present Mic because he was the trio’s de facto leader.

However, after Kurogiri was captured, it was revealed by doctors and scientists that he could be Oboro. His identity as Oboro was confirmed when Kurogiri responded to Eraser Head and Present Mic when they visited him in Tartarus. As such, it was clear that All For One and Dr. Garaki, at one point in the past, took Oboro’s corpse and used it to create a Nomu, a synthetic creature created using the corpses of different people.

How Old Was Oboro Shirakumo When He Died?

As established, Kurogiri was created using the body of Oboro Shirakumo, who died when he was still just a student at UA High School. He was close friends with Eraser Head (Shota Aizawa) and Present Mic (Hizashi Yamada). But how old was he when he died?

At that time, the trio of UA High School students was just in their second year. Precisely, Oboro, Shota, and Hizashi were all just 17 years old. In that regard, Oboro died quite young, as he was killed during a mission, and he died a hero when he used his Quirk to save kids from getting crushed by rubble.

It took a while before Oboro’s corpse was recovered, as neither Eraser Head nor Present Mic believed he was dead. However, their best friend died, and the three friends never fulfilled their dream of starting a hero agency together.

When Was Kurogiri Created?

After the authorities recovered Oboro’s body after the incident involving the trio of students and the villains that they fought together, All For One eventually used his Quirks and influence to steal his body before it got cremated. He gave Oboro’s body to Dr. Kyudai Garaki, the man responsible for creating Nomus.

As mentioned, a Nomu is an artificial being created by combining the different body parts and Quirks of different people. In this case, Oboro’s body and Quirk were used as the base for one of Garaki’s Nomus. Garaki found a way to resurrect Oboro by turning him into the Nomu known as Kurogiri.

However, Kurogiri’s consciousness was artificial in that it was unique and separate from Oboro’s consciousness. All mandated Kurogiri For One to act as the caretaker of his protégé and successor, Tomura Shigaraki. Because he was far more intelligent than the other Nomus, Kurogiri was a High-End Nomu. The difference, however, is that he doesn’t have the incredibly powerful bodies that most of the other High-End Nomus have.

But it was later revealed that Oboro’s consciousness was still deep inside Kurogiri’s body as it actually responded to Eraser Head and Present Mic. And during the Final War arc, Oboro fought through the Kurogiri consciousness to take control of the Nomu body.

How Old Is Kurogiri?

As mentioned, Oboro died at the age of 17 years old. We can assume that All For One only took days or even weeks to steal his body and allow Garaki to use it to create Kurogiri. So, if it didn’t take too long for Garaki to create Kurogiri using Oboro’s body, that would mean that he should be around 13 to 14 years old as of this writing.

That’s because, as mentioned, Oboro was the same age as Eraser Head and Present Mic at his death. Eraser Head and Present Mic are currently 31 years old, meaning that 14 years have passed since Oboro’s death. As such, Kurogiri is likely to be around 13 to 14 years old if Garaki created him in just a few weeks or months after Oboro’s death.
