One Piece has an amazingly large number of secondary characters that have appeared over the series’ two-decade run. Many have been forgotten because they appeared early in the story, while some have remained secondary characters closely related to the lore’s past. The character who will be the focus of this article is an omnipresent character who has not had much screen time but it is an exceptionally important background driving force, as he is responsible for the printing of wanted posters and all the news. He is, of course, “Big News” Morgans, and in this article, we will tell you what you need to know about him and his role in One Piece.

  • Article Breakdown:
  • “Big News” Morgans is a secondary character in One Piece, who is actually a very powerful figure in the world. He is 53 years old and is a three-meter-tall anthropomorphic albatross.
  • Morgans is the president of the World Economy News Paper, the main news source in the world of One Piece. He usually reports on everything quickly and is responsible for printing wanted posters.
  • As was revealed, he is also one of the emperors of the Underworld. This shady underground organization operates under the World Government’s noses and has many connections with numerous characters.

“Big News” Morgans is the series’ news magnate

Big News Morgans was born in a place on the Red Line. After he grew up, he founded his own newspaper, introducing News Coo to carry news across great distances. Thirty-six years before the beginning of the narrative, he was already an established journalist and wrote an article on the God Valley incident.

During the Whole Cake Island Saga, Morgans is invited to Charlotte Pudding and Vinsmoke Sanji’s wedding. He arrives on Whole Cake Island aboard a ship, being welcomed along with the other Underworld lords by Perospero and Smoothie. Later, like the other guests, he gives a chest to Big Mom, who decides to open it during the banquet planned as an event after the wedding.

The empress then shows them the pearl chest, stating that she intends to open it together with the others. He witnessed all the events during the so-called “wedding” and reported about them, of course, but this was just a brief overview of his past; our focus is what happened to him in the Wano Country Arc, as these events showed just how important Morgans is.

While on board a ship with Vivi, Wapol contacts the World Economy News Paper, claiming to have secret information regarding the recently concluded Levely. The king then asks Vivi where she is headed, and when the princess replies that she is heading to the kingdom of Eigis, Wapol tells Morgans, who replies that he will come closer on the pretext of looking for some news. Wapol tells him that he owes him a favor, and then Morgans points out that it’s great news that the World Government is aiming for the head of a king.

He then hosts Wapol and Nefertari Vivi aboard his flying newsroom. While the journalists are busy writing articles on the recent events, Morgans receives an envelope from the World Government containing a substantial check so that he does not divulge the incident, but he refuses, saying to return it to the sender. At that point, an undercover Cipher Pol agent reveals his identity but is punched by Morgans, who then decides to move his headquarters and continue with the planned publication.

He then learns that Luffy, Law, and Kidd defeated Kaido and Big Mom, which is why the three obtained a new bounty of 3,000,000,000 Berrys each. He, therefore, refuses to remove the D. from the first man’s name from the poster and not to use the photo taken by CP0 as requested by the Five Elders. He comments that Luffy’s appearance is mystical, asking the News Coo to spread the news everywhere and underlining that the latest report from CP0 in Wano spoke of the arrival of Big Mom’s ship.

Finally, he declares that he will not allow the manipulation of information as the world is changing and facts are the only thing that matters, being excited to experience something like this.

On board the flying editorial office of the World Economy News Paper, Morgans is informed of the fact that the World Government wants to assassinate Vegapunk, which he considers a scandal like what happened to Ohara, underlining that it will be worse for them as the scientist is very famous and has developed every form of energy. He also adds that Luffy is with him in Egghead, which is why he decides that he will have an article written in which he will accuse Emperor Straw Hat of having kidnapped the scientist, thus entering into war with the Marines.

Figuring that the World Government will appreciate this, he orders his subordinates to ask him for a contribution. Vivi, however, calls it idiocy as Luffy would never do it, adding that things like this are the reason why society sucks. Wapol asks the princess to lower her voice in case the World Government is eavesdropping on them and reminds her that Morgans is hosting them.

The latter replies that until the day before, he was whining and asks her not to interfere in his work, as it is he who decides if and when to shake the world, explaining that it does not matter whether the news contained in the newspapers is truth or lie, as they are a form of entertainment.

Morgans then intercepts a conversation between Egghead and Mary Geoise, which he listens to together with Vivi and Wapol: the three are amazed when they hear Luffy declare to the Five Elders that he is the future king of pirates and that he has allied himself with Vegapunk, as well as asking them to withdraw the Marines’ fleet cares about York’s safety.
