As we all know too well, the World Government has several organizations under its control, and the infamous intelligence agency CP0 is certainly one of the more notorious ones. CP0 has had many agents over the years, some more famous, some less, and has, over that same period of time, managed to become one of the series’ most important groups. In this article, we are going to talk about one member of the CP0, Guernica, who had an important role in the final phases of the Wano Country Arc, as he fought both Izou and X Drake, only to be met with Kaidou’s fury in the end. In this article, we are going to tell you a bit about Guernica, as well as what happened to him and whether he really died after being struck by Kaidou.

After the battles with Izou and X Drake, Guernica made his way to the Skull Dome, where he interrupted the fight between Kaidou and Luffy. Remembering an annoying event from the past that similarly interrupted his fight with Oden, Kaidou became furious and struck Guernica down with his weapon, while the agent simply accepted his fate, knowing that there was nothing he could do. His ultimate fate is officially unknown, but the Five Elders assumed that he was dead.

As you’ve probably deduced, the rest of this article will be about Guernica and his ultimate fate in the world of Oda’s One Piece series. Based on our summary of the events that happened near the end of the Wano Country Arc, we are going to reveal what happened to him and what happened during his brief encounter with Kaidou, i.e., whether Guernica is still alive or not in the series. This article will contain some spoilers, so if you’re not fully up-to-date with everything, you have been warned.

Guernica survived Izou, and he survived X Drake, but it is unknown whether he managed to survive Kaidou as well

Guernica is one of the best-known members of the CP0 and one of its most skilled agents. He has a very peculiar appearance, just like most other CP0 agents, and is known as one of the organization’s best assassins. Like his colleagues, he is very professional and cold and will put the mission first regardless of everything else. Still, he seems to have some emotions, as he admitted to X Drake that he envied him because of his freedom and ability to make a firm choice in life.

Now, his story started earlier, but since the events, we are going to focus on in this article take place in Wano Country, allow us to tell you how Guernica even ended up there and what his story was before he reached Kaidou, as it is important to understand how he actually came there (especially in light of his reaction to Kaidou’s attack).

Guernica and two other CP0 agents were sent to Wano Country to negotiate the purchase of weapons from Kurozumi Orochi, who demands Vegapunk in return, shooting Joseph when his offer is rejected. Orochi then invites the three to a fire festival, where Kaido seemingly kills the shogun, and a battle ensues between the emperors against the invaders. They discuss the current situation and its evolution, recalling some past events.

As they watch the fighting continue, Maha says it doesn’t matter which side wins and that Who’s Who must definitely die because it would set a bad precedent if they let a fugitive get away with it, while Guernica warns him that the man might not survive the battle as he is facing Jinbe.

Afterward, he and his colleagues discuss the current situation, representing the battlefield on a goban: four hundred of the five thousand four hundred invaders and three thousand of Kaido’s thirty thousand men have fallen.

They comment that the Kozuki allies had a brilliant idea by attacking by surprise, but even if they manage to bring down the two emperors against all odds, they cannot win without also dealing with the various enemy officers. Government agents are counting precisely on the fact that the two factions will destroy each other.

Later Rob Lucci informs them that the World Government has sent some ships to Wano in order to take control of it if Kaido is defeated. He also tells them that they will have to capture Nico Robin, so Guernica and Maha go into action; however, they are slowed down by the Mink while the archaeologist leaves with Brook.

The two chase them but are overwhelmed by a fire demon, Kazenbo, remaining unharmed. Soon after, they are photographed by Scratchmen Apoo, who plans to sell the news of their presence to the Morgans. Guernica thus hits him with a Shigan, making him fall down and spit blood, and when X Drake reaches them, the agent reveals that he knows his real identity and attacks him; however, Apoo hits him with his powers. They then team up against the two CP0 agents.

But when the latter defeat X Drake and Zanki, Apoo and Inbi flee. After the defeat of the Six Flying Companions and the Superstars, Guernica and Maha receive a call from Joseph, who urges them to capture Nico Robin as they must leave the castle, informing them of what happened. Thus they understand that the next few minutes of the battle will determine the course of the new era.

On the first floor of the basement, the two agents meet Izou, but they don’t intend to face him to concentrate on the Straw Hat Pirates. However, the former commander tells them to stop: the latter and Maha attack each other, respectively, with a pistol shot and a Shigan, falling to the ground fatally wounded. Guernica approaches his colleague, who reminds him that he still has to capture Nico Robin when he receives a call: the new order of the Five Elders is to eliminate Straw Hat to prevent the consequences of his duel with Kaido.

X Drake, meanwhile, arrives and stabs Guernica from behind, who spits blood and asks him the reason for this gesture, so the Marine states that that is his idea of justice; Guernica replies that he envies him and breaks free and then hits him in the throat with a Shigan. He then made his way to the Skull Dome, where, based on the latest orders, he blocked Luffy’s arm to prevent him from defending against Kaido’s; Luffy needed to die, and Guernica was ready to interrupt the battle to do it.

Now, while he did help Kaidou, this reminded the emperor of a similar interruption during his fight against Oden many years ago, so he became furious at Guernica for helping him and decided to kill him. Guernica calmly stood by and watched has Kaido’s weapon hit him, probably because he was just fulfilling his mission, and he was even ready to die to fulfill it.

Although the Five Elders conclude that Guernica must have died, he still managed to make and send them a photo of Luffy’s new form, which surprised them. Ultimately, Joseph returns from Wano alone, which makes Guernica’s ultimate fate unknown.
