Spy x Family: What Is WISE & Who Are Its Members? The Main Division of Westalian Intelligence Explained!

Many interesting characters appear in SPY×FAMILY, and while the major focus has always been on the protagonist trio – Loid, Yor, and Anya – numerous side characters impacted the series. But other aspects are quite interesting, and some of the organizations seen in the world of SPY×FAMILY are also quite intriguing. WISE is one such organization, especially since it is very closely related to Loid, and that is why we have decided to tell you all you need to know about this special organization from the series as a whole.

WISE is Wesalis’ central intelligence agency

When talking about Westalis, we usually perceive it as a very harmonious and interesting place, compared to a progressive West and a more conservative and closed East, which Ostania represents. But while Westalis and Ostania mimic the USA and the USSR from the Cold War era, the situation in the series is somewhat different. Both are powerful countries, and it makes sense that they spy on each other, as it was normal during the Cold War, which is related to the topic.

Namely, since the series is mostly presented from Westalis’ point of view, we’ve gotten a glimpse into how Westalis’ secret services work, and that is what we are going to talk about here, as the focus is going to be on WISE.

Westalian Intelligence Services’ Eastern-Focused Division <WISE> (西国情報局対東課,ウェスタリス ジョーホーキョクタイヒガシカ, Wesutarisu Jōhōkyoku Taihigashika) is the full name of Westali’s central intelligence agency. The organization is dedicated to maintaining peace between Ostania and Westalis, which is one of the most important parts of the plot. Little is known about the organization except that its main objective is to maintain peace between the countries of Ostania and Westalis, which makes sense, seeing how we’re dealing with an intelligence agency. The organization employs various methods to achieve its goal, whether through espionage, sabotage, wiretapping, or even assassinations, all in order to eliminate any threat that threatens the peace between the two countries.

Most, if not all, missions go through WISE, and they are responsible for coordinating and organizing all field agents. The organization became the story’s focus because Loid, a.k.a. Twilight, is one of WISE’s top agents, so it makes sense that the plot revealed a significant amount of relatively important details about the organization, which is why we know so much about it. Still, despite all the info we have, the inner workings of WISE are still an enigma, as they should be since we’re dealing with an intelligence agency.

WISE hasn’t been featured that much “individually,” but through Loid and the other agents (a list of which we are going to bring you below), we have found out a lot about how they work, what they do, and how skilled they are, and we can truly attest that WISE is a highly organized group of agents that do their job quite well.

They have managed to infiltrate Ostania, which is notoriously difficult to do, and are currently focused on Operation “Strix,” which is related to the dangerous Donovan Desmond, the Chairman of the National Unity Party of Ostania, who is also the series’ main villain, as his machinations threaten the peace between these two countries; and we know that WISE has to maintain the peace between Westalis and Ostania.

Of course, with the plot focusing on a trio of protagonists and WISE being a secret service and all, not many members of WISE have been revealed. The organization is quite large, and there are certainly numerous officials and agents working there, but in this section, we can only bring you those shown in the series (manga or anime) so far. Again, there are certainly more of them (and more could probably be revealed in the future), but this is what we have as of the time of writing:

And with this, we can actually conclude our story on WISE. As you can see, only three principal agents have been identified so far; others have been shown in the series, but they have generic (descriptive) names, and we know very little of them, almost nothing. We also know some informants who work for or together with WISE, but their number is also quite small.

We stress once again that the number of WISE members is much larger than the 13 people we’ve listed above, as it is a large agency, but these characters have neither been shown nor named in the series, so we cannot speculate about their identities as of this moment.
