Stephen King’s ‘Carrie’ Gets Chilling New Look — See the First Behind-the-Scenes Photo!

A new version of Stephen King’s classic novel Carrie is currently being made, and fans just got a sneak peek behind the scenes. The original Carrie was King’s first published book back in 1974, and it quickly became a famous horror movie directed by Brian De Palma.
Since then, it has been remade a couple of times, including a TV movie in 2002 and a film in 2013.
Now, Mike Flanagan, known for adapting other King works like Gerald’s Game, Doctor Sleep, and The Life of Chuck, is bringing Carrie back as a new eight-episode series for Amazon Prime Video. The project was first announced in October 2024, with a writers’ room created to develop the story further.
The cast is coming together fast. By April 2025, Summer H. Howell was in talks to play Carrie White, the main character, and Siena Agudong was cast as Sue Snell. Matthew Lillard joined the cast soon after, with more actors confirmed in June 2025, including Samantha Sloyan, Alison Thornton, Amber Midthunder, Kate Siegel, Rahul Kohli, Heather Graham, and many others.
Filming began in Vancouver on June 16, 2025, and is expected to wrap up by October 17, 2025. The new series looks like it will bring fresh life to the classic horror story for a new generation of viewers.
Flanagan previously explained how he got King’s approval for new adaptation.
Flanagan said that when Amazon first asked him about adapting Carrie, his initial reaction was to question why it needed to be done again since it had already been done well in previous versions.
Why do it again? Carrie White is a story about high school violence and bullying, and that feels immediate and important today, unfortunately, even more kind of sharply relevant than I think it was when he wrote it. So there felt like a chance for some true modernization beyond just changing the time period, and to use it to talk about the issues that affect high school kids in America today.
You know, Carrie White walking through a metal detector is interesting to me. Carrie White with social media. The iconic scene in the locker room is very different when people have phones in their hands. So that was the first germ of an idea, like, there is room for this to actually have a lot to say that’s very relevant
Flanagan explained that he made significant changes to the original Carrie story to make it feel more relevant to today’s world. Before moving forward with the project, he reached out to Stephen King to get his approval, since he wouldn’t proceed without King’s permission.
Although King was initially hesitant, wondering if the story needed to be told again, he ultimately liked Flanagan’s approach and agreed it could be relevant and exciting.
