New Insider Hint Suggests Sweeney’s Black Cat is Closer to Joining ‘Spider-Man 4’

Spider-Man 4 was confirmed to be in development over a year ago, but the film has recently received a major update. Destin Daniel Cretton is set to direct, with filming expected to begin in 2025.

Zendaya and Tom Holland have not officially signed on yet, as both actors are reportedly in the process of renegotiating their contracts.

The latest rumors come from MyTimeToShineHello, a well-known industry leaker. According to MTTSH, filming for the movie is scheduled to begin in May 2025, and it will also be casting new male and female leads.

The male character is expected to serve as a “foil” for Peter Parker, meaning he will likely challenge or contrast Peter in significant ways, possibly as an antagonist or rival, adding depth to the story. The female lead could be a love interest, ally, or someone with a similarly important role.

Given this, fans have speculated that the female lead is likely Sydney Sweeney’s Black Cat. Black Cat is the most rumored character to appear in Spider-Man 4, and many fans want the popular Madame Web actress to portray her.

In Spider-Man: No Way Home, MJ was among those who forgot all about Peter Parker when Doctor Strange cast his spell, suggesting that they are no longer dating, with MJ returning to her normal life and being accepted into MIT.

This complicated relationship between MJ and Parker opens the door for introducing a new love interest for the web-slinger. In the comics, Black Cat and Spider-Man have had a romantic connection. Their relationship began in the late 1970s and has experienced an on-again, off-again dynamic throughout various storylines, so there’s no reason not to explore it in the MCU as well.

This shift in the supporting cast could be refreshing, as fans have noted that Zendaya’s character has become a bit stale. Bringing her back too soon could also undermine the emotional impact of No Way Home.

Sweeney herself mentioned a few months ago that she would love to join Zendaya and Holland’s universe.
