The Sims 4: Here’s How To Make a Birthday Cake

Birthdays are a pretty big deal in the Sims 4. They mark the beginning of a new stage in Sim’s life and open new possibilities. You can celebrate Sim’s special day surrounded by friends and family or alone, but one vital ingredient, however you look at it, is a birthday cake. Acquiring a birthday cake is not as straightforward as in the previous installments, so we’ve decided to put together this guide. Let’s see how to make a birthday cake in Sims 4. 

How do you buy birthday cake in Sims 4? 

You can’t buy birthday cake in Sims 4, at least not in the way you would expect. In Sims 3, you could buy a birthday cake in the supermarket in the buy mode; Sims 4 radically changed things. The only way to get the birthday cake in the Sims 4 base game is to bake it yourself. 

The process is not difficult by any means. All it requires is a bit of skill, literally. The higher your cooking, baking, and gourmet cooking skills are, the more cakes you will have at your disposal. There isn’t a single cake available on the menu called “Birthday Cake.” Rather you can choose between numerous types of cakes and later add birthday candles to it to make it a birthday cake. 

The cakes that can be converted into a birthday cakes in Sims 4 are as follows: 

1. White cake Cooking Level 1 (§15)
2. Chocolate cake Cooking Level 1 (§15)
3. Hamburger cake Cooking Level 1 (§25)
4. Blue Confetti cake Cooking Level 6 (§25)
5. Strawberry cake Cooking Level 4 (§22)
6. Black & White cake Gourmet Cooking Level 1 (§25)
7. SimCity Cheesecake Gourmet Cooking Level 5 (§37)

You will not be able to bake all of those cakes immediately as different cakes require different skill levels in baking or gourmet cooking. For example, Black & White cake and SimCity Cheesecake can only be baked after you’ve unlocked gourmet cooking skills. No matter how skilled you are in homestyle cooking, you will not be able to bake those two cakes without appropriate skills. 

How to bake a birthday cake in Sims 4? 

Before we proceed with the guide, it’s important to point out that you need a fridge and a stove to bake a cake, and some cakes and other meals, in general, require you to purchase additional ingredients to cook certain meals. If you miss an ingredient (or all of them), certain cakes and meals will be completely greyed out. Now, let’s continue with our cake guide. To bake a birthday cake in Sims 4, follow these steps: 

• Interact with your fridge. 
• Click on the “cook” option. 
• Select a cake you wish to bake. We’ve given you a list of cakes that can be converted into birthday cakes. For today’s guide, I’ve chosen the Strawberry cake. 
• Your Sim will start preparing the cake quickly, and with high enough skill, the process will be quick and uneventful.
• Once the cake is complete, put it on an appropriate surface.
• Interact with the cake and choose the “add birthday candles” option. 

Ta-dah! Your birthday cake is complete. The birthday cake is not a special type of cake in Sims 4. It’s the candles that make it a birthday cake, just like the wedding topper makes cake and wedding cake.  

The easiest birthday cakes to make are White cake, Chocolate cake, and Hamburger cake, as they require only the most basic skill in cooking. The hardest birthday cake to make is The SimCity Cheesecake. 

Why can’t I bake a birthday cake in Sims 4? 

You can encounter several issues while attempting to bake a birthday cake in Sims 4. These are the most common ones that you need to check: 

1. Make sure that your cooking skills are high enough. Not all cakes will be available right away. If your cooking skills are 1, you will only be able to bake White cake, Chocolate cake, and Hamburger cake. 
2. Make sure that you have the appropriate funds to bake a cake. If you lack ingredients, a certain amount of Simoleons will be taken from you when you attempt to bake a birthday cake. If you can’t afford to bake it, all cakes will be greyed out. You need at least 15§ to bake the cheapest cakes in the game. 
3. Make sure you have appropriate kitchen apparatus. Baking cakes requires you to have a stove. Without a stove, no baking will take place. 
4. Make sure you don’t have any mods interfering with your skills and food options. Mods and CC are the most common reason some mechanics don’t work. Disable everything, then attempt to bake the birthday cake again. 

Can you order a cake in Sims 4? 

You can purchase a birthday cake in a restaurant as a part of a Dine Out game pack. Ordering a cake will result in a birthday cake (with candles) being delivered to your table near-instantly. Alternatively, you can organize a special event for your birthday, which will allow you to hire a caterer for the event. This is the most straightforward way to celebrate a birthday party in the park or another public lot in the Sims 4. To hire a caterer in The Sims 4, follow these steps: 

• Open your household calendar. 
• Select the “add event” option. 
• From there, select a birthday party event.
• A prompt will appear asking you to plan an event. You must assign certain sims to act as caterers, bartenders, and entertainers.
• The next step is to select the venue and the exact time for the event. 
• Now all you have to do is to look forward to your birthday and don’t worry. Your birthday cake will be delivered. 

This is the more expensive option, but if you plan to organize a memorable birthday party for your Sim, it’s worth it.
