When Does Kakashi Become Hokage?

In the fictional world created by Masashi Kishimoto – the world of Naruto – each of the five hidden villages is guarded by a leader known as a Kage. The Kage are usually the most powerful fighters in each of the villages and the title is passed over to the next best fighter after some time. The Kage of Konohagakure, Naruto’s village, is called a Hokage and in this article, we are going to tell you when exactly Kakashi, Naruto’s friend, and mentor, became Hokage.

Kakashi Hatake became the Sixth Hokage at the age of 32, succeeding Tsunade in the role. He could have become Hokage at an earlier date, but Tsunade woke up from a coma and continued to execute her duties. Kakashi was reluctant to accept these duties, but he ultimately did, being Hokage for a total of 13 years.

The rest of the article is going to focus on Kakashi Hatake and his path to becoming the Sixt Hokage of Konohagakure. You’re going to find out whether he even wanted to become Hokage, when he became Hokage and how old he was when he became Hokage. We’ve prepared an interesting article for you so stick with us to the end.

When does Kakashi become Hokage?

Kakashi Hatake is famous for being one of the rare characters who almost became Hokage twice. Somewhere during the events described in episodes 163 and 164, Tsunade, the Fifth Hokage, falls into a coma after battling Pain. Since this left Konohagakure without a Kage, a new one had to be chosen. Since Kakashi was the most skilled and experienced among them, he was chosen as Tsunade’s successor, although he was not thrilled with it. Luckily for him, Tsunade awoke from her coma just before the process was officially completed and thus Kakashi escaped his duties.

When Does Kakashi Become Hokage?

Yet, this was only temporary, as Kakashi would indeed become Tsunade’s successor and the next Hokage of Konohagakure. All of this played out after the Fourth Shinobi World War, during which he excelled in the fights. Kakashi was named by Tsunade as her successor after having proven his worth. Kakashi was, once again, reluctant to take over her duties – partly because he detested the paperwork – but he finally accepted and became her official successor and the Sixth Hokage; his first act was to pardon Sasuke for his crimes.

The novel Kakashi Hiden: Lightning in the Icy Sky, which is an original story written by Akira Higashiyama and illustrated by Kishimoto, details Kakashi’s coping with his new role and even reveals that he had not taken over Tsunade’s duties a year after succeeding her, during which period Tsunade acted as Hokage.

In what episode does Kakashi become Hokage?

The Naruto anime wasn’t always clear with its episode order and even if we do know when something happened in the manga (exactly which chapter), we don’t necessarily have to know what episode it happened in. This is why people often wonder in what episode something happened. Luckily for you, we at Fiction Horizon have done our research and can, thus, tell you that Kakashi became Hokage in episode 479 of Naruto: Shippuden, which was titled “Naruto Uzumaki!!”. Here is a good video detailing these events:

What age does Kakashi become Hokage?

Now, when it comes to exact dates, Naruto is not that obvious, which makes this a relatively tricky question. Still, unlike some franchises, it is possible to deduce the chronology from the events, since some events have a (rough) date, and thanks to Laudy Dorado from Quora, we now know Kakashi’s exact age at the moment he became the Sixth Hokage. Here’s the calculation:

Kakashi fell in love with Kahryo (sister of Gahro who are both Ice Style users like Haku). It was hinted Kahryo was Haku’s mother but was not confirmed. Might Guy assisted Kakashi surprisingly in the hot air balloon fightsDuring this mission, it was mentioned Hidden Grass Village’s Hozuki Castle/Blood Prison needs a new warden after Mui’s demise so Kahryo was suggested by Kakashi to the Leaf-Cloud-Grass higher-ups.

After the mission, Kakashi became Sixth Hokage at age 32.

In “The Last” movie, characters mentioned 2 years had passed so Naruto would be 19–20 here during his marriage with Hinata Hyuga. We can see Kakashi was already the Sixth Hokage for 2 years here. Naruto was already a Jounin here.

+1 year since “The Last” with Naruto & Hinata’s marriage, Hinata gave birth to their first son Boruto Uzumaki. Kakashi was on his 3 years term as Hokage while Naruto is still a Jounin and Hinata still a Chunin.

+5 years, Himawari was born 5 years younger than Boruto. Kakashi had 8 years as Hokage here.

+5 more years (2 years ago since start of Boruto series), Boruto was 10 while Himawari was 5 when Naruto was inaugurated as the Seventh Hokage. Naruto was 31 years old while Kakashi ended his 13 years reign in Konoha at the age of 47.

In Boruto series, Mist ninja Kagura Karatachi mentioned 15 years had passed since the Fourth Great Ninja War when he was born. This was the start of Boruto series, exactly 2 years since Naruto became the Seventh Hokage and Kakashi retired.

Naruto is 33 while Kakashi is 49 now in start of Boruto series.

So, to summarize – as we can deduce from the events in the anime and manga, Kakashi Hatake was 32 years old when he became the Sixth Hokage, succeeding Tsunade in that position.

How long was Kakashi’s term as Hokage?

From what we know about the chronology of the events and the timeline of the Naruto franchise, Kakashi’s term as Hokage lasted for a total of 13 years, which is much longer than anyone would have expected, seeing how reluctant he was to even become Hokage because of all the paperwork it involved.

What happened to Tsunade when Kakashi became Hokage?

As we all know, Tsunade was the Fifth Hokage before Kakashi. At the end of the series, after the Fourth Shinobi World War, Tsunade retires and bestows the title of Hokage upon Kakashi. We know from the novel Kakashi Hiden that she remained in the village, helping out Kakashi fulfill his duties for at least a year after she had given up on being Hokage, but these events have not yet been adapted. She was last seen in the epilogue, attending the wedding of Naruto and Hinata with other recent Kage who have also retired.

Her exact whereabouts are unknown, but she is probably somewhere where she can enjoy her retirement, much alive and well.

Despite the title of Hokage being an exceptional honor he was prepared to do based on his skills, Kakashi Hatake was one of the few capable characters – along with Tsunade – who actually never wanted to become Hokage and he constantly tried to find ways to avoid it. Why? As he himself admitted – he hated the paperwork. A Hokage is not just a fighter, he is also an administrator and Kakashi despised that line of work, which is why he reluctantly accepted the position and was happy to pass it down to Naruto later on.
