Who Is Mystic Gohan & How Strong Is He Compared to Other Dragon Ball Characters?

As far as Dragon Ball characters are concerned, Akira Toriyama’s masterpiece has given us quite a large number of powerful characters, but also a large number of character “modifications”. The latter are actually powered-up variations of old characters who have gained some additional powers, abilities, and/or techniques due to specific circumstances surrounding their transformations. One such transformation – commonly known as Mystic Gohan – is going to be the topic of this article, as we are going to analyze it and reveal how powerful this version is.
Mystic Gohan is actually an informal term for the Ultimate Form or the Potential Unleashed, a state an individual can enter after performing the Old Kai’s Unlock Ability. This is an ability used by Gohan. In this form, he is also known as Ultimate Gohan. The direct result is that the user enters into a state that unlocks their full dormant potential and can focus it to elevate their powers well beyond their usual limits.
The rest of this article is going to reveal all the known details about Mystic Gohan. Be wary that this article is going to contain some spoilers, but on a general level, will focus more on the generalities of this form rather than on the plot details surrounding it. Our goal is to present this form and its aspects, rather than to talk about the plot related to it.
Who is Mystic Gohan?
This form of Gohan differs from the Super Saiyan forms since the iris of his eyes and his hair remain the same color. The most notable changes in Gohan are the large black lock on his forehead and his marked eyes, as well as an accentuated musculature. The aura is unchanged and is similar to the one it emits in its base form. This appearance would not be permanent, but Gohan could activate it whenever he wanted.
The fundamental point of this state in the case of Gohan is the release of all the forces that a Saiyan can provide to the Super Saiyan transformation, and therefore, practically Gohan no longer needs to become said transformation to reach a certain level of the fortress. However, despite being a natural state, it still requires frequent physical and mental training to maintain maximum performance, since otherwise, the lack of such will cause the person to lose the ability to access this state.
After reaching this state, Gosen Zosama instructs Son Gohan that, in order to transform and use that form, use the same mechanism by which he transforms into Super Saiyan (feeling a tingling sensation in the back after concentrating his energy in that part body) and throws a Kiai in the process. In this state, the user’s power increases to exponential and unimaginable levels.
All the latent potential that the warrior could not use without resorting to anger is unlocked and in the case of Son Gohan, this gives him amazing powers that surpass the level of Super Saiyan 2 (his maximum transformation until then), even with a strength superior to Goku’s Super Saiyan 3, which we are going to detail below.
How strong is Mystic Gohan in comparison to other Dragon Ball characters?
Gohan’s power when the full potential of his dormant power is unlocked during the Buu saga. This power was obtained after a special ceremony performed by Old Kai. While this technique is not unique to Gohan as the ceremony can be used to unlock anyone’s potential, on Gohan, it was more difficult because of his incredible potential unlike anyone else who has ever done this ritual before.
Gohan activates this ability the same as how he transforms into a Super Saiyan, but the color of his aura, hair, and eyes do not change. Only sudden differences are present, such as more pronounced facial features, long hair, and a large white aura. When first used, Gohan’s strength surpasses all other forms.
Gohan’s power in this form is such that he has completely surpassed Super Buu in his normal form, casually bringing the monster into submission, and is superior to Super Buu (Piccolo, Goten, and Trunks absorbed), and is nearly equal to Super Buu afterward. absorb Gotenks and Piccolo, though Super Buu defeats Gohan due to his unique techniques and his victims’ absorption powers.
In the movie Dragon Ball Z: Wrath of the Dragon, Gohan is seen “transforming” into Ultimate on several occasions during the battle against Hildegarn, neglecting his various Super Saiyan forms (Daizenshuu Supplemental says Ultimate Gohan is stronger than Super Saiyan 2).
The book Dragon Ball: Extreme Battle Collection says that Ultimate Gohan has fantastic power that surpasses even Super Saiyan 3 (it is confirmed in the manga/anime that Ultimate Gohan is stronger than Gotenks Super Saiyan 3), but Goku Super Saiyan 3 may be stronger than Ultimate Gohan in Wrath of the Dragon.
Gohan is unable to attack Hildegarn or block any of his attacks, while Super Saiyan 3 Goku easily defeats the monster when he discovers Hildegarn’s weakness. In Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods and Dragon Ball Super, Gohan uses Ultimate Form to fight Beerus but is easily defeated by Beerus.
Due to lack of training, Gohan loses access to his full potential, becoming weaker, and only transforms into a Super Saiyan during Frieza’s invasion in the Resurrection of ‘F’ Saga.. However, when training with Piccolo in anticipation of the Tournament of Power, Gohan, being able to surpass him as a Super Saiyan, forces himself to fully awaken Piccolo’s Ultimate State.
In doing so, Gohan has been able to quickly gain the upper hand on his teacher, though he lets his guard down and is defeated by the latter. After having trained, he fights against his father, where he apparently manages to face him in Super Saiyan Blue (just as Krillin does with No. 18 and also No. 17 in their corresponding fights) after which he insistently asks Goku to show all his power, it is then that he uses the Kaio-ken, where Gohan clearly ends up being defeated. Although thanks to it, he recovered his combative spirit and the desire to improve himself.
