Did Commander Cody Die in the Bad Batch? What Happened to Him?
One of the clones that were prominent during the Star Wars: Clone Wars series was Commander Cody, who worked closely with Obi-Wan Kenobi and was always in the middle of things in the war against the Separatists. We reunited with Commander Cody during the events of Star Wars: The Bad Batch, where he worked together with Crosshair on a mission on Desix. But the thing was that he eventually decided to leave the Empire. So, does Commander Cody die in The Bad Batch?
Commander Cody will most likely die during the events of The Bad Batch. That’s because of the fact that he wasn’t around with the other surviving clones during the events of Star Wars: Rebels. Of course, we aren’t sure what will happen to Cody because his fate will be shown during the events of The Bad Batch.
The thing about Commander Cody is that his life was seemingly something that was a mystery to a lot of Star Wars fans because of the fact that things about him were blank after Order 66 when he almost killed Obi-Wan Kenobi. Of course, the events of Star Wars: The Bad Batch are set to fill some holes that fans noticed about the Star Wars universe. And it is likely that Cody’s death will happen in the series.
What Will Happen To Cody In The Bad Batch?
There have been a lot of clones that appeared in the Star Wars universe during the events of Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Clone Wars. Of course, it was during the events of Clone Wars that we got to know more about the clones and their identities and personalities. That’s because there were clones that were actually supporting characters in Clone Wars.
One such clone that we got to know better during the events of the Clone Wars series was Commander Cody. The reason why Cody was one of the most prominent clones during the Clone Wars was the fact that he worked closely with Obi-Wan Kenobi as the clone that he trusted the most during the war against the Separatists. However, like all of the clones that never got their inhibitor chips removed, Cody betrayed Kenobi by blasting him off a cliff. After that, we never saw him again.

Cody reappeared in the Star Wars continuity during the events of Star Wars: The Bad Batch season 2 when he was featured in episode 3 of the series. He participated in an Imperial operation on a planet called Desix and was the commanding officer of Crosshair in that mission. At that time, Cody was loyal to the Empire, as he didn’t know about the inhibitor chip that forced him and the other clones to obey Order 66 without question.
However, Cody already had doubts about the Empire because he had noticed that several clones had deserted their posts and had gone AWOL due to the things that they were doing while serving their Imperial officers. Still, he decided to proceed with the mission in Desix, as this was a success.
While in Desix, he tried to negotiate the release of Governor Grotton from Governor Tawni Ames, who simply wanted her planet to stay independent from the Empire. Cody, however, told her that fighting the Empire will only lead to war and death. At that point, everyone had already suffered plenty of losses from the last war, as that was what convinced Ames to give Grotton up in the hopes that things could be resolved peacefully.
However, Grotton ordered Cody to execute Ames, as this order was not something that the commander was willing to comply with due to the fact that he promised peace to Ames and Desix. But Crosshair, knowing that the Empire didn’t want to negotiate and had ordered him to kill Ames, executed the former governor on the spot. This led to a scene involving Cody and Crosshair as the commander told the former Clone Force 99 member that they were not droids and were capable of free will.

Crosshair eventually learned that Cody had gone AWOL, as it was possible that he had become disillusioned by the events of that Desix mission. In that regard, Cody was no longer a part of the Empire due to the fact that he saw what kind of a monster the Imperial forces were.
Will Commander Cody Die In The Bad Batch?
Of course, at this point, we aren’t sure what will happen to Commander Cody during the events of The Bad Batch because that incident in Desix was the latest event that involved him. But the only thing that we know is that he is no longer part of the Empire and is quite possibly going to find himself working with The Bad Batch sometime in the future, just like what Captain Rex did when he left his Imperial post after the Clone Wars.
But we also know that Rex and a few other clones were still alive during the events of Star Wars: Rebels, which takes place just a few years before the events of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. However, Cody was not one of the clones that were there with the surviving clones that Rex led.
This implies that Cody will die sometime between The Bad Batch and Rebels, as it is possible that his death will come during the events of The Bad Batch. The animated Star Wars shows on Disney+ are notorious for filling in plot holes left by previous shows. We saw a few plot holes getting filled in Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi, as it is more than possible that The Bad Batch season 2 will do the same regarding Cody’s character.
As such, there is a good chance that Cody will meet his end during the events of The Bad Batch, as he will quite possibly atone for the things that he did during Order 66 when he was involved in the deaths of countless Jedi and the attempt at Obi-Wan’s life. Fighting the Empire might be one of the things he will do in The Bad Batch, as this will allow him to die with his conscience clear.
