And while Tokyo Revengers might initially look like a typical yanki series, the whole concept is popular for one good reason: the story has a lot of depth. It can be difficult to follow occasionally, but it is worth it. One of the aspects that makes the series so great is the interpersonal relationships between the characters, and in this article, we will discuss one such relationship. The relationship in question will be the one between Inupi and Koko, as we will reveal all the details you need to know about it.

  • Article Breakdown:
  • Inupi and Koko have been friends since childhood and they have been very close for a time. Koko was initially in love with Inupi’s older sister, Akane, and when she died, the two became even closer.
  • When Tenjiku kidnapped Inupi, Koko, and Takemichi, Koko “offered” himself to them so that he could save his friends, which ultimately led to a clash between Inupi and Koko later in the series.
  • After the final battle, the two friends reconcile, and the series implies that they finally became a couple now that Koko is over Akane’s death.

Inupi and Koko were, first and foremost, best friends

Fans of Tokyo Revengers will know about Inupi, whose full name is Seishu Inui, and Koko, whose full name is Hajime Kokonoi. And while we could really, tell you about their fighting and gang history here, this article is going to be about them and their relationship as it evolved on the pages of the Tokyo Revengers manga. In this section, we are going to explain how the two of them know each other and how their shared story began.

Inupi and Koko have been friends since childhood. They went to the same school, and they hung out a lot when they were little. A shared element of their relationship was Inupi’s older sister, Akane, who was 5-6 years older than the boys but whom both liked very much. She was a caring sister, which is why Inupi liked her so much, but Koko soon developed romantic feelings for her.

He tried to kiss her one night while she fell asleep in the library and then confessed his true feelings to her; she initially rejected him, but he reiterated his feelings, so she finally believed him and told him she would wait for him. But that never happened – the Inui house ended up in flames. Koko saved Inupi’s life (although he wanted to save his sister), while Akane ended up with severe burns that ultimately killed her.

Her family could not pay for her hospital bills, so Koko formed a gang of underage thieves to collect the money, but he was too focused on it, and when he collected the necessary money, it had already been too late. Still, Koko and Inupi hung out together, and Akane’s death did not sever their friendship; in fact, it even deepened it (until other circumstances separated them, but more on that later).

Are Inupi and Koko in love?

Now, we have said that Akane’s death deepened the bond between Inupi and Koko. Sharing the loss, the two hung out even more and they became closer. Koko, at one point, started comparing Inupi to Akane more and more (the two of them really do look alike), but he commented how Akane was still prettier. At one point, Koko even kissed Inupi and at that point, it became obvious that the two of them were, indeed, in love.

This was a relatively clear and natural course of things, as the relationship between the two was really portrayed in such a way that a romance – after Akane’s death – was expected to happen. Of course, the circumstances wouldn’t really allow the two of them to be a couple just like that. Still, after they parted ways following Emma’s funeral, they reunited once again after the final battle against the Kanto Manji Gang; Koko returned to Inupi and told him that he had gotten over Akane’s death and that he was now ready to fully “give himself to Inui,” implying that the boys will end up as a couple in the peaceful present timeline that Takemichi and Mikey finally created.

Did Inupi use Koko?

We have now explained the main aspects of their relationship, which means that we can actually get to the Tenjiku Arc, the current arc in which we are about to see a major fight between Inupi and Koko. The two of them faced off against each other – we are going to explain how they ended up on different sides later – and as Akane’s name was mentioned, their shared history was also mentioned, as well as the fact that Koko had collected money for Akane’s treatment.

It is then revealed that most people simply used Koko for the money and that he feels bitter about that; Inupi says to him that Akane is dead and that the money is not important anymore, but Koko still wonders whether Inupi was just one of those who had used him in the past. The answer is, of course, no. Inupi would never do such a thing to Koko, so Koko’s question was more a result of his bitterness than anything else.

Does Inupi get Koko back to Toman?

Now, we also owe you the answer as to how Inupi and Koko ended up fighting each other. Namely, Tenjiku had kidnapped the two of them, and Takemichi at one point. In order to save his friends, Koko offered to join Tenijku, and Inupi and Takemichi were released. This created a rift between the two, but we have to know that all Koko was doing was simply to protect Inupi.

This is why the two of them ended up fighting and then they started the fight, Inupi told Koko to come back to Toman, while Koko offered Inupi a place with Tenjiku. Inupi just wanted his friend back, but Koko thought that Tenjiku would win, so he offered to switch sides to protect him. Neither accepted the other’s offer then, but the two friends, as we’ve said, will be reunited by the time the story is over.

Will Inupi defeat Koko?

And now, one last paragraph about the fight itself. This fight was one of the more emotional ones; although we can confirm that the Tenjiku vs. Toman fight had a series of important moments, this one was one of the best. So, who won? Well, as it happened… the fight never really evolved properly because Inupi mentioned Akane, which was a “Martha” moment (for all the fans of Snyder’s Batman v Superman movie) that initiated a flashback.

By the time the story came back to the present, it had become obvious that the fight was not going to progress properly, so Mucho intervened to fight Inupi in Koko’s place.
