Jujutsu Kaisen: Masamichi Yaga’s Death Explained!
Masamichi Yaga is undoubtedly one of the coolest Jujutsu Kaisen characters, but we haven’t given him enough credit. Tokyo’s Principal and Gojo’s former professor, Masamichi Yaga, is a secondary character who became popular despite not appearing that often in the story. Masamichi Yaga was mentioned before the Shibuya Incident concluded. He will be present in the upcoming arcs, where he will be killed per the higher-ups’ instructions. This article will reveal how Masamichi Yaga died in Jujutsu Kaisen and what exactly happened to him.
Masamichi Yaga was the victim of the higher-ups’ political maneuvers
The Shibuya Incident was, as fans of the series will know by now, one of the pivotal moments in the series that profoundly affected the story’s lore. Satoru Gojo was sealed in the Prison Realm, Kenjaku began his scheme to build a new world for cursed spirits, and Sukuna showed the world how strong he truly was. This led to the start of the Culling Game’s prequel, although that’s only a brief synopsis. Everyone is still affected by the many events that took place in Shibuya. A significant turning point came when the higher-ups sent out a notification that included the following information:
- Suguru Geto’s survival was confirmed. We hereby declare the reinstatement of his death sentence.
- Satoru Gojo has been deemed an accomplice in the Shibuya Incident and is hereby expelled from jujutsu society. In addition, any attempt to free him from his seal will be deemed a crime.
- Masamichi Yaga is sentenced to death for inciting Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto, causing the Shibuya Incident.
- The suspension of Yuji Itadori’s death sentence is hereby revoked, and his execution shall be carried out promptly.
- Special-grade sorcerer Yuta Okkotsu shall be appointed as Yuji Itadori’s executioner.
We have bolded the most important point for this article, effectively showing what the higher-ups did to Yaga. He was declared a criminal, which had nothing to do with the truth, but it reflected the higher-ups’ stance towards Gojo and his associates. Yaga was sentenced to death on pretenses; he never had anything to do with Geto’s rampage (he was as angry and disappointed as Gojo when he originally found out), but even if he did – the guy in Shibuya wasn’t Geto, it was Kenjaku, so Yaga couldn’t have been blame for that.
But, even though the accusations were bogus, here we are. Yaga is sentenced to death, and we will now explain what happened.
He died while fighting Gakuganji
Of course, when Yaga’s death sentence was made public, the principal knew what awaited him, so he went into hiding. This made sense, as he did not want to die and could’ve still been useful to the heroes. But, as he was – as he said – going to say goodbye to his son, a powerful higher-up greeted him and asked him what he was doing. Soon, the sorcerer was joined by Gakuganji, the scheming principal of Kyoto’s school.
They demanded Yaga tell them the secret of creating curse corpses, but instead of telling them, Yaga engaged them in a fight. Sadly, he was heavily beaten and injured by the two of them. In his last moments, he decided to reveal his secret to Gakuganji; when the latter asked him why he did not reveal it before the fight, Yaga said that this was a curse, and he decided to leave him as he died. And that is what happened.
Panda soon arrived at the scene, and while Gakuganji was ready to engage Panda, the latter simply ignored him and rushed to his “father’s” side, holding him as he was dying. And that is Yaga’s story in Jujutsu Kaisen and the story of how and why he had to die.
