Over a year ago, ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ came out. It was a big deal for a few reasons. Firstly, it kicked off Phase 5 of the MCU and introduced Kang the Conqueror, who was set to become the next big villain in the Multiverse Saga. But after it hit theaters, things went downhill. The movie didn’t do well financially—it didn’t even make back its production costs. And critics weren’t too kind either; the reviews were mixed at best.

Shortly after the premiere, Jonathan Majors faced a major setback. He was arrested and charged with assault by his ex-girlfriend. Disney took action 10 months later in December, firing him when he was found guilty. ‘Quantumania’ played a role in setting off changes at the studio, and ‘The Marvels’ solidified them.

Recently, there have been reports suggesting that the studio is dropping plans for ‘Ant-Man 4’ and ‘Captain Marvel 3’ to concentrate on more guaranteed successes in the future. It’s disappointing because taking risks with “lesser-known” characters previously gave us successful franchises like ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ and the first two ‘Ant-Man’ movies, which were well-received by audiences. During a promotion for ‘Ghostbusters: The Frozen Empire,’ Rudd discussed his potential return as Ant-Man in an interview with Dexerto. When questioned about when we might see Scott Lang again, Rudd gave a candid response.

I have no idea. None whatosever. You know that’s always in their [the studio] camp and we’ll see if they have ideas and that were to come about. I guess we’ll find out, but I don’t really know.

Rudd provided a straightforward response, likely realizing his involvement in standalone projects is uncertain at this point. Yet, there’s a good chance his character’s journey could carry on within movies centered on other characters and the Avengers team. This possibility is especially intriguing given that his daughter, Cassie Lang, is being brought into the Young Avengers by Kamala Khan, a project currently in development. Got more thoughts?
