Some movie worlds pull you in with their stunning visuals or gripping stories, making you wonder what it’d be like to live there. But many of these places are so deadly, you’d be lucky to last a day, let alone a week.

I’ve picked 15 cinematic universes where survival is a long shot, from alien invasions to post-apocalyptic wastelands. Here’s why these worlds would chew you up and spit you out in no time.

15. The Road (2009)

‘The Road’ shows a grim, post-apocalyptic Earth where an unnamed disaster has killed most life. Viggo Mortensen’s character and his son wander a barren wasteland, dodging cannibals and scavenging for scraps.

You’d face starvation, freezing cold, and roving gangs who’d kill for a meal. Without survival skills or weapons, you’d be an easy target in this hopeless world.

In ‘28 Days Later’, a rage virus turns people into fast, feral monsters. Cillian Murphy’s Jim wakes up to a deserted London, where infected humans hunt the living.

You’d need to outrun these relentless creatures and find safe shelter. One wrong step or a single bite, and you’re done before the week’s up.

13. War of the Worlds (2005)

Aliens invade Earth in ‘War of the Worlds’, using towering tripods to vaporize humans. Tom Cruise’s Ray Ferrier runs for his life, protecting his kids from unstoppable extraterrestrials.

The desert wasteland of ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ is ruled by warlords like Immortan Joe. Charlize Theron’s Furiosa fights for freedom in a world short on water and fuel.
