Williams F1 Suits up as Captain America and Thor for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ at the US Grand Prix
Marvel has spent the past few months taking its ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ campaign far beyond the usual trailers and posters. One of its most unexpected partners has been Formula 1’s Williams Racing, which first announced a collaboration with Marvel back in April. The centerpiece was a special 32-page one-shot comic titled ‘Iron Man: Racing Towards Doom’.
Written by Ethan Sacks with artwork by Greg Land, the comic sees drivers Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz team up with team principal James Vowles, Iron Man, Black Widow and Captain America to stop Doctor Doom from disrupting the Formula 1 season. The partnership then went into overdrive on October 8, when Williams unveiled a Doctor Doom-inspired show car at New York Comic Con.
Now the team has taken the crossover a step further. Atlassian Williams F1 Team has revealed 2 new uniforms inspired by Captain America and Thor from ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, with Albon and Sainz wearing the one-off race suits and helmets at the Circuit of the Americas for the United States Grand Prix.
Sainz takes on the Captain America look with a patriotic blue suit featuring red accents on the sleeves and legs. His helmet carries a large white star, an instantly recognizable nod to Cap’s shield.

Albon, meanwhile, goes for a darker Thor-inspired suit paired with a silver helmet. The accompanying graphics read “Atlassian Williams x Avengers: Doomsday,” complete with the film’s December 18 release date.
While the suits are making it onto the grid, the car itself is a different story. Albon and Sainz won’t race in the special livery, and the striking black-and-green Doctor Doom design remains a show car only.
That decision hasn’t sat well with everyone. Since photos of the livery were released, fans have questioned why Williams isn’t using it for the race, though the reason remains unclear. Some have speculated it could come down to finances or weight.

Instead, the show car is on display at the Williams Fan Zone at 800 Congress Avenue in downtown Austin from October 19 to 24, ahead of the race on October 25. Visitors can catch appearances from Albon, Vowles, reserve driver Luke Browning, and 1996 World Champion Damon Hill, along with an exclusive Austin edition of the comic.
The New York Comic Con debut set the tone for the partnership. Fans could explore a dedicated Williams experience within Marvel’s exhibition space, featuring comic artwork, superhero-inspired race suits and interactive displays, plus 2,000 limited-edition comics with an exclusive NYCC cover.

The team also gave fans a chance to bring home a piece of the action. Race-worn suits and boots from Albon and Sainz were offered for purchase, and fans could enter a competition to win one of the special Marvel-inspired suits.
Not every reaction has been glowing. Some fans pointed out that the Doom livery looks a lot like the one created for the Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber, though the collaboration has still proven a big hit overall.
The timing could hardly be more fitting. After reaching 2 podiums in 2025 and finishing fifth in the Constructors’ standings, Williams had big ambitions for 2026. Instead, Albon and Sainz have managed just 12 points so far this season.

Whether a little superhero spirit helps Williams in Austin remains to be seen. Either way, the partnership has given Marvel another creative way to build hype before ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ hits theaters on December 18.
