‘Booster Gold’ Nears Selection of Showrunner With Lead Role Already Filled

When Gunn & Safran assumed leadership roles as co-chairmen and co-CEOs of DC Studio, they revealed plans for a comprehensive revamp of the old DCEU, unveiling a plethora of projects spanning live-action films, TV series, and animated shows. Among these, ‘Superman’ is currently in production and slated for a 2025 release, while ‘Creature Commandos’ marks the inaugural project under the newly established DCU label.
However, one project that receives relatively little attention within the DCU lineup is the forthcoming ‘Booster Gold’ TV Show, centered around the titular hero.
James Gunn recently disclosed that the show is in active development but won’t enter production in the near future. However, industry insider Daniel Richtman now divulges that the show is on the verge of securing a showrunner, and the lead character has already been cast. These developments confirm suspicions stemming from recent social media remarks.
The production history of ‘Booster Gold’ stretches back quite a while. In November 2011, Syfy greenlit a television series based on the character, with Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg attached as developers. However, despite Kreisberg submitting a script in June 2013, the project never came to fruition.
Fast forward to January 31, 2023, when James Gunn announced the first part of Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, which included ‘Booster Gold’ among the projects. This is essentially all the information available about the show’s development.
As for casting the titular hero, speculation is rampant. Chris Pratt’s recent comments only fuel the curiosity further.
