Boruto: Who Is Soegi & What Happened to Him?
As a sequel to Masashi Kishimoto’s globally popular Naruto series, Boruto had to – and has, more or less, succeeded in doing that – find a path of its own, which, of course, resulted in the series introducing a lot of new characters to the series. Some of them have become well-known additions to the series, while others have remained secondary characters. In this article, we will discuss a new supporting character introduced in Chapter 2 of Boruto -TWO BLUE VORTEX-.
Soegi was a secondary character introduced in Chapter 2 of Boruto -TWO BLUE VORTEX-, which will probably be his final appearance as well. He is a Shinobi from Konohagakure who was assigned to protect the village when Code returned with a group of Claw Grimes. Soegi and an unnamed friend of his fought them, and they were soon aided by the arrival of Sarada Uchiha, who, despite being just a Genin, easily beat Code’s monsters, surprising those around her. While she was talking, a Claw Grime tried to attack her from behind, and Soegi noticed it, jumping between the two of them and taking the attack. Soon after, he was turned into a tree and died on the spot.
The rest of this article will be dedicated to the character of Soegi and his story as it happened on the pages of Boruto -TWO BLUE VORTEX-. We will explain who Soegi is, why he we are even talking about him, and his overall contribution to the series’ lore. We will answer all the important questions about this newly-introduced shinobi who seemingly had a very short run in the series, so stick with us if you want to know what happened. This article will contain many major spoilers, so be careful if you haven’t actually read the Boruto -TWO BLUE VORTEX- manga, as this article will reveal a lot.
Soegi came, saved Sarada, and seemingly died – that’s all folks!
The above title would be a perfectly good summary of this article, as it is exactly how Soegi’s contribution to the series can be described. The guy appeared for the first time in the recently-released Chapter 2 of Boruto -TWO BLUE VORTEX- and from what we can understand, based on what happened in the chapter, this will be his final appearance as well; Kishimoto might provide us with something, but Soegi doesn’t seem to be important enough to merit a Deus ex machina on Kishimoto’s side.
So, what’s the story? As we know, Boruto went on a break earlier this year, and the series went through a much anticipated time skip, returning recently with Boruto -TWO BLUE VORTEX-the sequel to Boruto. This is the same pattern we’ve had with Naruto, so fans were not surprised at all, and it was actually a matter of time when it was going to happen and not if it was going to happen.
When the series finally came back, it started on a pretty high note, showing the consequences of the final scene of the first part and how Kawaki has managed to take over Boruto’s life.
But, aside from that, Code also returned, and with a group of monsters, nonetheless. The monsters seemed scary and dangerous, and Konoha had to prepare for a fight. But, to the surprise of all, before both Sarada and Kawaki, Boruto Uzumaki, who had been banished several years ago, appeared and faced Code and his monsters, telling Kawaki that he would spare his life if the villain retreated; of course, Code did not do that, so a fight ensued and soon enough, Sarada and, later, Kawaki arrived.
Sarada Uchiha proved quite skilled, with her skill level being even greater now than in the original series. With one powerful attack, she defeated several Claw Grimes, surprising those watching the battle, including two shinobi near her. While one asked if she was truly a genius with such incredible power, the other was simply astonished, and he did not say much. Based on their appearances, both were older than Sarada and probably adults.
The other shinobi, the one that was simply amazed, is Soegi. His name was revealed a few panels later when the following happened. Namely, as Sarada was replying to the other guy, claiming that her rank was wholly unimportant, a Claw Grime tried to attack her from behind. Soegi noticed that and yelled out her name, but there was no time for Sarada to react on time, so Soegi jumped between them and took the attack on himself, effectively sacrificing himself for her. This is when Sarada cried out his name, and this is when we found out who he was.
But what happened later? Well, a moment later, Soegi started turning into a tree, to the surprise of all present, and in a moment’s time, he was actually a proper tree, with only part of his body being visible from inside the tree’s body. As far as it is understood, Soegi actually died during that attack, although we will probably have to wait for the next chapter to confirm it officially. As things stand now, this is what we know.
And with that, Soegi’s story in Boruto seems to be over before it even started. There have been many such characters in the series, absolutely, and Soegi wouldn’t be an exception in any case, but it is nevertheless sad to see a character die so quickly, especially since he gave his own life to save Sarada. But that’s life… sometimes you’re lucky enough to live through the next chapter, and at other times, you’ll leave the story fairly quickly.
