Captain Marvel to Reportedly Have a Dual Purpose in the Continuation of the MCU
‘The Marvels’ is the latest movie in the MCU. It continues Carol Danvers’ story and puts a spotlight on Kamala Khan and Monica Rambeau, who became notable characters in Phase 4 of the MCU.
Despite its importance for the future of the cinematic universe, ‘The Marvels’ didn’t do well at the box office. Carol Danvers dealt with her issues with the Kree, Monica Rambeau got stuck in a parallel universe, hinting at future X-Men developments, and Kamala Khan was seen recruiting the next generation of Avengers for the upcoming ‘Young Avengers’ project. However, Carol Danvers didn’t seem to have a clear purpose by the end of the movie.
Recently, there have been rumors circulating that ‘Captain Marvel 3’ might not happen because the studio is prioritizing guaranteed successes. So, what could happen to one of the strongest Avengers? According to Alex Perez, a well-known source of leaks, Carol will have two main roles in the upcoming MCU projects. She’ll work on figuring out where the Quantum Bands came from and try to rescue Monica from the other universe. It seems like a logical move.
I have heard Carol’s role in the MCU as of now is to focus on two things. The first is to decipher the true origin of the Quantum Bands from The Marvels, with Carol presenting her bangle to Wong and Banner, while Kamala does the same, albeit with a couple of new friends on the way. The second thing is to find a way to bring Monica back to the MCU, but given what we know about incursions, they might find their way back to each other sooner than they think.
The initial plan for ‘The Marvels’ wasn’t what we ended up seeing, as Zawe Ashton (playing Dar-Benn) recently disclosed that there was a version where Carol was supposed to die, clarifying why her purpose wasn’t resolved at the movie’s end.
We’re uncertain about Captain Marvel’s next appearance, but Brie Larson expressed optimism, mentioning there’s much more to explore with the character. Got something to share? Drop your thoughts in the comments!
