Did You Spot the ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Easter Egg Hinting at ‘Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow’?”
Deadpool & Wolverine is the MCU’s latest hit, drawing huge box office numbers, largely due to the fan service packed with cameos from various pre-MCU Marvel adaptations. However, the cameos aren’t the only nods in the film. While Deadpool visits Happy Hogan’s office, sharp-eyed viewers can spot several cool references to past MCU installments, and possibly even hints at future ones.
In a scene where Deadpool visits Happy Hogan’s office on Earth-616 to apply for a spot in the Avengers, several intriguing items are on display. The office features Phil Coulson’s Captain America cards and Peter Parker’s helmet from Iron Man 2. However, one particular item hints at something more ominous—especially in light of recent announcements: an Ultron Sentry head and Tony Stark’s prototype Captain America shield. These objects could potentially play a role in a future MCU storyline, possibly setting the stage for an adaptation of Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow.
The presence of Ultron Sentry heads suggests that Ultron could return at any moment, and that seems likely, as it’s just been confirmed that James Spader will reprise his role as Ultron in the upcoming Vision series. But how does this connect to Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow?
Next Avengers is an animated film set in an alternate future where the original Avengers have been defeated by Ultron, a rogue AI created by Tony Stark. The movie follows the children of the original Avengers—James Rogers (son of Steve Rogers and Black Widow), Torunn (daughter of Lady Sif and Thor), Henry Pym Jr. (son of Giant-Man and the Wasp), Azari (son of T’Challa and Storm), and Francis Barton (son of Clint Barton and Barbara Morse)—as they rise to continue their parents’ legacy and fight Ultron.
For this lineup to exist in the MCU, the multiverse would have to come into play, as Earth-616’s pairings differ significantly. Some Avengers who had children are either dead, unable to have kids, or never part of the MCU, like Storm. However, the MCU has been setting up replacements for older heroes for years. In this continuity, James Rogers would be the son of Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter, while Black Panther’s child would be Toussaint, the son of T’Challa and Nakia, instead of Azari.
Hawkeye Jr. would likely be Nathaniel Pietro Barton, and Henry Pym Jr.’s parents could be Scott Lang and Hope van Dyne instead of Hank Pym and Janet van Dyne. Torunn could still be Thor and Sif’s daughter, given that Jane Foster has passed away.
While the upcoming Young Avengers project will have a significantly different lineup, the MCU could still explore this alternate path if it chooses to.
