Demon Slayer: Is Muichiro Tokito Gay, Straight or Bi?

When discussing Demon Slayer, one usually talks about the demon slayers themselves or the demons. And while the series has offered us a variety of other intriguing characters, we will talk about one specific Demon Slayer – Muichirō Tokitō, the Mist Hashira. But, due to his specific personality, people often wonder about his sexual orientation, so we have decided to compose this article for you. In it, you will find out whether Muichiro Tokito is gay, bisexual, or straight in the story of the Demon Slayer manga and anime.

Muichiro’s sexuality has never been confirmed in the series, so we can assume that he was simply straight, like most characters. Demon Slayer wasn’t really focused on romance (save for the protagonists and Mitsuri/Obanai), so the issue never came up as relevant when other characters were concerned. There is nothing that would indicate that Muichiro was not straight, but since he wasn’t really romantically involved with anyone, the question is not really relevant as far as he is concerned.

In the rest of this article, we will tell you what you need to know about Muichiro Tokito and his romantic life, specifically his sexual orientation. We have provided you with an answer above, but since Muichiro’s romantic life has not really been a topic in the series, we don’t really have much to add, so we’ll just elaborate on the above-given answer. If you’re not fully up to date with Demon Slayer, there might be some spoilers ahead.

Muichiro’s sexuality was never a topic in Demon Slayer, so we can assume that he is straight

Whenever we write these types of articles, we discuss the character’s personality in question, as it is relevant to understanding certain aspects of that character. The personality reveals a lot about how a character perceives (or could perceive) romance, so before we actually analyze the main issue, allow us to give you an insight into Muichiro Tokito’s personality in Demon Slayer.

Muichirō is a person who is constantly in thought and can never concentrate on one thing. He usually doesn’t get involved much in conversations and only thinks for himself. His thoughts always follow logic and are still guided by emotions.

However, his personality was different before his twin brother’s death. Until he was eleven, Muichirō was very caring. Although originally more like his father, he showed a great deal of kindness and was very understanding, which does not reflect his attitude as a Demon Slayer.

He believes that he must do good for others to do him good. After a Demon killed his brother, Muichirō later lost his memories and retained an ever-present anger that he deeply suppressed and later fueled his intensive training. After the amnesia, he exhibited his indifferent attitude as a Hashira. After Muichirō regained his memories, he showed more emotion and confidence, which helped him form new friendships with the other Demon Slayers. He even used sarcasm against Gyokko, the Upper-Rank Five.

As you can see, Muichiro is not really a character who focuses on romance. Due to his personal traumas and how he copes with them, Muichiro focuses on completely other things, and it does not seem like romance is anywhere in his plans. On top of that, he is a child, so it is not unusual for him to actually be so lightheaded and focused on other things.

The traumas that shaped Muichiro turned him into an exceptional Demon Slayer and a powerful Hashira, so it only makes sense that the young Hashira is actually focused almost exclusively on fighting and that romance is not a thing he entertains.

So, as far as that aspect is concerned, we don’t actually know anything about Muichiro’s sexuality. This question has not been addressed at any point in the story, and the author himself never actually discussed it.

It’s not that the situation is clear or unclear. It’s just that we don’t know anything about it since the issue was never addressed. As we’ve said, Muichiro’s romantic life has not been discussed at any point in the story, and that means that we have absolutely no data related to his sexuality, as the author did not provide us with anything.

There have been some theories about Muichiro potentially being gay and liking either Tanjiro or Genya, but these are simply theories, and there is absolutely nothing to corroborate them in the series. From that perspective, we’d rather say that Muichiro is asexual and aromantic at the moment, i.e., that he is not used to romancing at all.

He does not expect it or know how to feel it, and based on that, we can deduce that he is aromantic. When Mitsuri hugged him at the end of the Swordsmith Village Arc, he seemed to be genuinely shocked, rather than anything else, as if he did not expect that, as if he had never experienced that.

So, we don’t think Muichiro is gay or bisexual. These things are either explicitly stated or are heavily hinted at in the story, but since the author never really provided us with any such hints in the story, we don’t think that the chances of Muichiro being gay or bisexual are that big, regardless of the fans wanting to see it.

But he is also a kid, and while he is gentle and a tad feminine, this usually doesn’t mean much in the world of anime.

Muichiro is, thus, probably straight or possibly aromantic, but since he died during the battle with Kokushibo, we will never really know. The author killed off Muichiro and obviously never wanted to explore that part of his story, so we can apply Occam’s razor and conclude that there is nothing that peculiar about that aspect of Muichiro’s personality. And that is the whole story we wanted to tell you.
