Does ‘Fallout: New Vegas’ Have Mods for Xbox One?

The games developed by Bethesda are one of the best in the gaming world. However, despite the incredible story and worldbuilding, the studio, for the life of them, cannot release a game without bugs and lags that most of the newer generations of gamers absolutely hate. The bugs and problems with game performances immediately “turned off” many gamers, but diehard Fallout and Bethesda/Obsidian fans stuck with the games and started developing their own fixes – mods. In this article, we will discuss if Fallout: New Vegas has mods for Xbox One.
Can you mod games on the Xbox One console?
Personal computers were always more flexible regarding modding and editing games. Decades ago, specifically in the 1980s, the Castle Wolfenstein game was really popular, and the gamers decided to release a parody of it by removing the Nazis and adding Smurfs as enemies – the parody game Castle Smurfestein was born. The Castle Smurfestein became the official first mod in gaming history. It prompted the developers of Wolfenstein 3D and the founders of ID Software to make their popular game Doom available for modding. The founders allowed the fans and amateur game designers to mod their notable first-person shooter.
The experiment was a success, and the modding community kickstarted its long and successful journey. Games like Battlefield 1942, Command and Conquer: Yuris Revenge, Warcraft III, Grand Theft Auto, Doom, Half-Life, Minecraft, GMod, Elder Scrolls, and Fallout were amongst the most modded games of all time. You could also add Roblox to that list because modding is an essential part of the game.
The game mods weren’t just plain additions to the game anymore but tools that changed the gameplay and mechanics of the games. New maps, game modes, and an amazing environment became essential in the mod industry, but one gaming company realized their games must have mods to function best.
Bethesda’s Fallout and Elder Scrolls games have a history of releasing the games with bugs and graphic issues, which prompted some players to give up on the game immediately. However, the fans were on top of everything and decided to use their knowledge to develop mods that would upgrade the gaming experience of Bethesda’s games.
At the moment of writing this article, according to the modding website Nexus Mods, Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has the most developed mods of all time, with over 1.5 billion downloads and around 70.000 available mods. This data is only from the Nexus Mods website, meaning thousands more mods are available on various sites. Other Bethesda games are closely behind, with Fallout: New Vegas, Fallout 3 and 4, and Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion following closely.
We established that Fallout: New Vegas is in the top five of most modded games since its release in 2010, and frankly, I can’t play the vanilla version of the game anymore. The mods available for the game are “lifesaving” in terms of fixing bug fixes and game crashes that made the game infamous. The game experience is so much better and more immersive compared to the vanilla version of the game.
Since we determined what modding is and which games are most popular in the modding community, let’s see if Fallout: New Vegas has mods for Xbox consoles. We will also provide you with information on whether players can even mod on gaming platforms.

Now, to do the main question of the article. We determined that PC modding is a popular and developed community with a great history in gaming. But what about consoles? We know that Microsoft owns both Windows and Xbox and is familiar with modding on their platforms. The popular Xbox 360 never had outright modding as today’s consoles have, but the players found ways to mod games on Xbox 360.
The so-called USB modding only lets you edit the saved files of the game. Xbox 360 never outright let players “meddle” with their system, and that confirmed the notion that USB modding is essentially just surface change to the game save files. There are different ways to mod on 360, but we will leave that for another article.
However, with Xbox One, “the game changed,” and some games became available for modding via softmods and hot swapping. Games like Minecraft, Fallout 4, and Skyrim are available for modding, especially after the release of remasters and special editions of the games. The same goes for PlayStation 4, which allowed modding closely after Xbox One. This was a huge shift for the modding community on consoles, and the console gamers stopped being left out and joined the fun of modding.
When it comes to Fallout: New Vegas, the game was released in 2010 for the Xbox 360 console, and since the original game, Bethesda has not released a new version or a remaster of the game for newer consoles. This fact is a huge reason for Fallout: New Vegas never had available mods for its game on Xbox consoles.
Every time Bethesda released remasters or special editions of the games, they allowed Microsoft and, ultimately, the players to implement their mods on the Xbox console versions of the games. Knowing the gaming companies, Fallout: New Vegas will definitely gain an upgrade and get released via remastering on newer platforms because it is, without a doubt, the best Fallout game ever (at least, in my opinion).
Console gamers can only hope for a remastered version or special editions of Fallout: New Vegas in the future, and frankly, I think it will happen sooner or later.
