‘Fifty Shades’ movies in chronological order

The chronological timeline of ‘Fifty Shades’ movies is fairly straightforward. Luckily, there are no prequels and spinoffs.

1.‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ (2015)

Ana Steele, a 21-year-old literature major, interviews billionaire entrepreneur Christian Grey for her roommate’s college newspaper. Christian becomes intrigued by Ana and later sends her first-edition novels as a gift. After a night of heavy drinking, Ana rebuffs unwanted advances from a friend and wakes up in Christian’s hotel room, relieved that they did not become intimate.

Ana and Christian start a relationship, but he requires her to sign a non-disclosure agreement regarding the details of their interactions, particularly his engagement in BDSM relationships. After exploring Christian’s “playroom” and negotiating terms, Ana and Christian engage in conventional sex, and the next morning, Ana meets Christian’s adoptive mother, Grace.

2. ‘Fifty Shades Darker’ (2017)

After leaving Christian Grey, Anastasia Steele starts a new job as an assistant to Jack Hyde at Seattle Independent Publishing. Christian, haunted by nightmares from his abusive childhood, wants Ana back and agrees to her terms. As Ana navigates her new job and encounters Christian’s troubled past, including encounters with a former submissive and Christian’s connection to Elena Lincoln, tensions rise in their relationship.

3. ‘Fifty Shades Freed’ (2018)

Christian and Anastasia cut their honeymoon short due to a break-in at Christian’s headquarters by Jack Hyde. Christian surprises Ana with a new house and hires architect Gia Matteo, leading to tension when Gia flirts with Christian. Ana’s night out with her friend Kate leads to conflict with Christian, who later surprises her with a trip to Aspen where Elliot proposes to Kate.
