‘Haikyuu!!’ Announces New Anime Short Titled ‘Where Monsters Go’

Big news just dropped for anyone who loves ‘Haikyuu!!’. The team behind this volleyball anime has something fresh cooking—a short TV special called ‘Where Monsters Go’. It’s not a full season or a movie, but it’s still got us excited because it dives into a match we’ve been dying to see animated. This isn’t about the main squad from Karasuno High either. Instead, it’s shining a light on another team that’s won plenty of hearts over the years.
The short focuses on Fukurodani Academy facing off against Mujinazaka High. If you’ve followed the manga, this clash happens during the Spring High National Tournament, and it’s a big deal. Fukurodani’s ace, Kotaro Bokuto, is a powerhouse with his wild energy and killer spikes. On the other side, Mujinazaka’s captain, Wakatsu Kiryu, is just as fierce, known as one of Japan’s top high school players. Their showdown is short in the manga—just a couple of chapters—but it’s packed with intensity. I expect this anime to capture every bit of that action in one tight episode.
This announcement came out of the ‘Haikyuu!! 10th Event – NEXT STEP’ held on March 2, 2025. Alongside it, we got word about the next movie, ‘Haikyuu!! VS The Little Giant’. That one’s all about Karasuno taking on Kamomedai High, with Shoyo Hinata squaring up against Kourai Hoshiumi—both pint-sized players with the ‘Little Giant’ nickname. The movie’s the second part of the ‘Haikyuu!! FINAL’ series, following ‘The Dumpster Battle’, which hit theaters in February 2024 and later landed on Netflix and Crunchyroll. It’s clear the creators aren’t done bringing this story to life.
‘Haikyuu!!’ started as a manga by Haruichi Furudate, running from 2012 to 2020 in Weekly Shonen Jump. It wrapped up with 45 volumes and over 60 million copies sold worldwide. The anime kicked off in 2014, produced by Production I.G., and gave us four seasons full of epic games and character growth. We’ve seen Hinata and his rival-turned-teammate Tobio Kageyama push Karasuno back into the spotlight. The voice cast, like Ayumu Murase as Hinata and Kaito Ishikawa as Kageyama, has been a huge part of why it feels so real.
What’s cool about ‘Where Monsters Go’ is how it steps away from Karasuno to highlight Bokuto and his crew. Ryohei Kimura voices Bokuto, bringing that loud ‘Hey, hey, hey!’ spirit we love. Ryota Ohsaka plays Keiji Akaashi, Fukurodani’s calm setter who keeps things steady. The teaser trailer starts with Akaashi’s voice, then cuts to Bokuto smashing the ball—classic stuff that gets the blood pumping. It’s a quick peek, but it promises the same slick animation we’ve seen before.

The ‘Haikyuu!!’ world isn’t slowing down. After ‘The Dumpster Battle’ raked in over 11 billion yen at the box office, it’s no shock they’re keeping the momentum going. We don’t have a release date for ‘Where Monsters Go’ yet, but more details should come soon. Same goes for ‘VS The Little Giant’—no exact day, though some guess it might drop in 2026 based on past timelines. For now, I’m just glad we’re getting more of these teams in action.
This short might not be long, but it’s a treat for anyone who’s cheered for Fukurodani. And with the movie on the way, it feels like ‘Haikyuu!!’ is still spiking its way into our lives. Whether you’re here for the volleyball or the characters, 2025’s shaping up to be another big year for the series. Keep your eyes peeled—we’ll be watching these monsters hit the court soon enough.
