The most surprising twist that ‘Castlevania: Nocturne’ introduced was the return of the famous ‘Castlevania’ hero named Alucard, who we know is the son of Dracula and Lisa. Of course, people were already expecting Alucard to return because his popularity rose in the ‘Castlevania: Symphony of the Night’ video game, which is one of the inspirations of ‘Nocturne.’ But some fans may be wondering how long Alucard has been alive because the events of the first series and ‘Nocturne’ are separated by centuries. So, how old is Alucard in ‘Castlevania: Nocturne?’

  • Article Breakdown:
  • Alucard was born in 1456, just a year after his mother, Lisa, and his father, Dracula, met in Dracula’s castle.
  • During the original ‘Castlevania’ series, Alucard was around 19 to 20 years old because the events took place in 1476.
  • The events of ‘Nocturne’ take place in 1792, making Alucard 336 years old.

Alucard was born in 1456

Back in the events of the original ‘Castlevania’ animated series, we saw the start of a love story that endured death. In 1455, Lisa was a determined woman who spent time searching for Dracula’s castle because she heard that this was a treasure trove of ancient knowledge and science. Because Lisa wanted to become a better doctor for the people, she sought the knowledge hidden inside Dracula’s castle and wasn’t even afraid of the powerful vampires living in it. Dracula fell for Lisa’s determination, tenacity, and fearlessness, and they eventually got married.

It was the union between Dracula, king of the vampires, and a simple woman named Lisa, who bore the dhampir named Alucard, who had both his parents’ vampire and human qualities. He was born in 1456, just a year after his parents met.

Alucard, however, literally and figuratively grew fast because he was already seemingly an adult instead of a teenager during the events of the ‘Castlevania’ animated series. The main storyline took place in 1476. He was just around 19 years old at the start of the series. However, Alucard was already 20 years old sometime during the final season.

But throughout the storyline of the first animated series, he was seemingly in his mid-20s both in terms of how he behaved and how he looked. He was raised by parents who believed in the pursuit of science, which explains why he handles himself like a middle-aged man. Of course, given the fact that he was a dhampir, he was immortal in the sense that he would never die of old age. That explains why he was never going to age, no matter how old he was.

The events of ‘Nocturne’ take place in 1792

While the original ‘Castlevania’ series ended after four seasons, a sequel series was released in 2023. The series is ‘Castlevania: Nocturne,’ inspired by ‘Castlevania: Rondo of Blood’ and ‘Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.’ This series takes place in 1792 and follows an entirely new group of heroes looking to get rid of the vampire menace plaguing the world.

Why Does Alucard Look Different in ‘Castlevania: Nocturne’?

Given that ‘Nocturne’ adapted both ‘Rondo of Blood’ and ‘Symphony of the Night,’ it follows the story of Richter Belmont, the inheritor of the Belmont family legacy of vampire hunting. He and his allies were looking to defeat the vampires who were set to crush the revolution during the time of the French Revolution. And the vampire that they are looking to defeat is Erzsebet Bathory.

Of course, Richter and his allies failed to defeat Erzsebet due to her overwhelming power after obtaining the powers of Sekhmet, the Egyptian goddess of war. When Drolta attacked Erzsebet’s most loyal underling, Richter and his friends were retreating. But Alucard appeared in the very last moment to prevent Drolta from killing Richter as the dhampir struck down and killed the powerful vampire.

Teasing Richter, Alucard was clearly referring to the fact that he was familiar with Trevor as he told the young Belmont that he arrived just in time when a Belmont needed help. Richter was in disbelief when he saw Alucard because he always thought he was just a myth created by the Belmont family.

Richter never thought that Alucard existed because it has been more than 300 years since the original ‘Castlevania’ series ended. In fact, 316 have passed since the events of season 4 of the original series. That means that Alucard is right around 336 years old already during the events of ‘Nocturne.’

Alucard is a lot older than the other ‘Nocturne’ heroes

Back in the events of the original ‘Castlevania’ series, Alucard was just as old as his other companions. Even though he had the demeanor of an old man, he was just around 19 or 20 years old when he teamed up with Trevor Belmont and Sypha Belnades. Of course, Trevor and Sypha were also around 20 years old.

However, during the events of ‘Nocturne,’ Alucard is already much older than his mortal companions, considering that Richter, Maria, and Annette are just human. Richter and Annette were right around 19 years old during the first season of ‘Nocturne.’ Meanwhile, Maria was around 16 years old at that time.

As such, Alucard has wisdom and experience on his side, as it can be expected that he will train his new companions in the art of vampire slaying, which he has perfected after living for more than 300 years. And while it is unlikely that his new companions will be quick to defer to his wisdom, it will be interesting to see what kind of dynamic Alucard will have with Richter, considering that the Belmonts have always been stubborn.
