Is Kiku dead in One Piece? What happened to her?
Kikunojo of the Lingering Snow, also known as Kiku, is a samurai from Wano Country and vassal of the Kozuki family, serving as one of the Nine Red Scabbards of Kozuki Oden. She is also Izou’s sister, and the daughter of the owner of the Hanayanagi school in Ringo. Kikunojo was born 42 years ago but traveled twenty years into the future, adopting the identity of O-Kiku and working as a waitress in a tea house in Okobore town.
Kikunojo and her older brother Izou were starving dancers 39 years ago. Their family has dispersed since their father became a criminal. She met Oden, and she couldn’t help stealing his food without permission; Kiku has become a samurai in his service since accompanying Oden to Kuri. Later, after meeting the Whitebeard Pirates, Oden and his minions feasted on them.
After the Whitebeard Pirates left Wano Country two weeks later, the servants discovered that Oden, Izo, Inuarashi, and Nekomamushi were missing. After Kozuki Oden’s execution, Kin’emon, Kanjuro, Raizo, and O-Kiku headed to Kuri Castle to protect Momonosuke. When they arrived Kaido’s crew had preceded them and the castle was burning. They found Momonosuke with his mother Toki and little sister Hiyori.
While they were stuck inside the castle, Toki, in order to save his son as well as his servants, sent them 20 years into the future using the power of the Toki Toki no Mi. They then found themselves thrown 20 years later in a ruined castle facing their graves as well as those of the Kozuki family. While his companions set sail to find allies, O-Kiku remained in Wano Country to spy on the enemy.
Sometime later, she is seen hearing the conversation between Big Mom and Tama about red beans. She has almost arrived in Udon. When Tama, Chopper, Big Mom, Momonosuke, and O-Kiku arrive in Udon, the two kids stay outside while Big Mom calls for red bean soup, and Chopper and O-Kiku go straight back.
Later, O-Kiku and Chopper surprise Luffy as he alienates Big Mom and the rest of Udon’s guards; they then fear for him when he gets thrown into a wall after a punch from the Yonko. After the departure of Queen who takes Big Mom away, Kiku finally finds Kawamatsu, freshly freed, Raizo, and, after 20 years of not having seen him, Hyogoro, the former yakuza boss.
The group of four then sides with Luffy and Chopper to attack the guards and prisoners of Udon. The overthrow of Udon Prison is a success. Kiku then helps Momonosuke convince the prisoners to join his cause. She is presents the next day alongside Tama when she convinces Babanuki not to reveal the prison revolt to Queen.
Three or four days later, Kikunojo finds herself in Kuri at Amigasa Village with the other 6 Red Scabbards as well as Shinobu, Hitetsu, Sanji, Robin, and Brook. They prepare to discuss an attack plan against Kaido. On the eve of the Onigashima Raid, Kikunojo weeps with the other Red Scabbards over Kozuki Hiyori’s survival; she walks towards the port of Tokage in Udon to take the sea towards Onigashima.
Kikunojo and the other 7 Red Scabbards along with Momonosuke and Shinobu arrive at Tokage Port in Udon and to their surprise, they find no boat or man, she then cries over everyone’s presumed abandonment. She decides with Kinemon, Kanjuro, Raizo, Nekomamushi, Ashura Doji, Kawamatsu, Momonosuke, and Shinobu to leave with a rowboat to Onigashima, to defeat Kaido and Orochi and avenge the death of their master Oden in a desperate plan.
As they row through the stormy waters, Kin’emon thinks of the possibility that there is a spy in their ranks, and Kikunojo tells him that they should find the spy immediately. Kanjuro then reveals that he is the spy in question, which shocks them all, and the Scabbards then find themselves confronted by three battleships of the Beasts Pirates.
The scabbards then discover that Kanjuro had sent a clone to replace him on their ship, and the real Kanjuro had stayed behind and captured Momonosuke. However, the Straw Hats, Heart Pirates, and Kid Pirates then arrive to attack the Beasts Pirates, and the Heart Pirates have brought the ship from the scabbards onto their submarine.
Shortly after, the Kyoshiro Gang arrives and the scabbards are once again shocked when Kyoshiro is revealed to be Denjiro. Denjiro reveals that the altered secret message had actually ordered the alliance to go to the quay at Habu Port, so thousands of samurai had gone there and are now sailing behind him.
Kanjuro then abducts Momonosuke into the sky towards Onigashima to warn Orochi, with Momonosuke reassuring the alliance and asking them to continue while he fends for himself to break free. Kin’emon then joins the samurai and pirates to alter the invasion plan, and the scabbards then plan to land at the back of the island on Law’s submarine.
After the Straw Hats defeat the guards at the entrance gates, the Heart Pirates and Scabbards (except Kin’emon and Denjiro) join Onigashima’s rear. Along the way, they are contacted by Nekomamushi, who has just arrived and plans to meet them on Onigashima. When the sub gets close enough to shore, Law teleports with the scabbards to Onigashima’s rear entrance, where they are joined by Marco, Nekomamushi, and Izou.
Kikunojo then happily reunites with his brother. After Marco leaves to see a shadow he had seen at sea, the group comes face to face with Kanjuro and a squad of Kaido pirates. After Kanjuro explains how Momonosuke tried to escape without success, and that his execution is scheduled soon, Kikunojo confronts the traitor.
Kikunojo and some of the other Red Scabbards are then seen in tears after defeating Kanjuro, reminiscing about when they were still with Oden. Shortly after, when Kaido finds his son Yamato, the latter attempts to execute him, which is when all the Red Scabbards head towards the Emperor, disarm him and King, and launch their powerful combined attack full of rage while shouting “SUNACHI!”.
Falling to the lower floor, the Red Scabbards manage to inflict damage on Kaido. As the alliance reveals itself and attacks the Beasts Pirates, Kaido transforms into his dragon form and flies up, with the Scabbards clinging onto him. On the roof, they prepare to fight Kaido with the help of the Mink Tribe. Jack and some allies then arrived on the roof to help Kaido. The Scabbards watch the Minks attack the enemy.
After Jack and his forces were rendered incapacitated by the efforts of the Minks, the Scabbards began their confrontation with Kaido. Kaido threw lightning bolts at them, but they dodged and each hit him in turn. After recovering, Kaido launches an air-blade attack at them, one of which slashes Kiku who then loses his left arm.
Izo and Kin’emon tend to her wound, and Kikunojo returns to battle. Continuing the battle, Kaido started crushing the scabbards and later neutralizing them. Big Mom, Kid, Killer, Zoro, Luffy, and Law later arrived on the roof. At Luffy’s request, Law teleported the scabbards to a safe place. They were placed in the treasure room on the second floor, where a mysterious person began to take care of them.
Later, the scabbards, somewhat recovered, regained consciousness, but the mysterious figure was already gone. Before leaving the treasure room, they saw someone who appeared to be Oden. Unfortunately, it was Kanjuro who transformed with his powers. The Scabbards, destroyed by the false hope of Oden reappearing, are then shocked by the sacrifice of Ashura Doji, who lets himself explode to counter Kanjuro.
The Scabbards then see Jack arrive and Inuarashi confronts him to allow them to flee and find Momonosuke to protect him. The Scabbards then reunited with Orochi and Fukurokuju. They easily defeat the Shogun and Raizo stays behind to fight whoever calls himself a rival. The other scabbards continue on their way.
She will then be pierced by Kanjuro, who has taken on the appearance of Oden at the place where Momonosuke, Shinobu, and Kin’emon are. When Usopp reaches where Kiku and Kin’emon are, he begins to defend them against Kaido’s crew members. Usopp then got flustered when they suggested Usopp should take one and leave the other behind, his talk about his will to survive no matter what having impressed the injured two. Kikunojo is then carried to safety by Hamlet when Izou, having arrived there, allows them to escape by blocking the arrival of Kaido’s crew members. As you can see, Kiku is, as of this moment, still alive in One Piece and this was her story.
