Jujutsu Kaisen: Here Is Why Everyone Hates Todo
There are a lot of different unique characters in Jujutsu Kaisen, especially when it comes to the Jujutsu sorcerers, who seem to have qualities that make them weird in a certain way. One such character we met was Aoi Todo, a third-year student at Kyoto Jujutsu High School. Todo is exceptionally unique compared to the other characters, as he has a personality that can sometimes be too much to handle.
In that regard, almost no one in the storyline actually likes Todo. In fact, while he isn’t necessarily a bad person with a bad personality, he just doesn’t seem to be the kind of person that the other characters would like to be around. Even Yuji Itadori, who gets along with almost everyone, doesn’t always like being around Todo. So, with that said, we are here to examine why everyone in Jujutsu Kaisen hates Aoi Todo.
Why Does Everyone Hate Todo?
When it comes to the world of anime, many different characters tend to be polarizing in terms of their personalities. In Jujutsu Kaisen, we can’t stress just how unique the characters are as most of them don’t carry the usual traits that we often see in the characters of shonen manga and anime. Even the main character himself doesn’t have the usual traits that we see in the main heroes of a manga storyline.
One of the characters introduced during season 1 was one of the unique characters in the entire storyline. We are talking about Aoi Todo, a third-year student in the Kyoto branch of Jujutsu High School and a grade 1 Jujutsu sorcerer. Undoubtedly, Todo is a powerful sorcerer who doesn’t have trouble defeating powerful curses. In fact, he is so strong that he can defeat a curse without using his cursed energy.
But while people often admire strong and powerful characters within the same manga and anime universe, the opposite is true regarding Todo. Instead of people admiring him and wanting to be as strong as him, most of his peers can’t stand him. So, why is it that everyone hates Todo?
People don’t necessarily hate Todo, as he isn’t a bad person. He is a good person who works hard to become a strong Jujutsu sorcerer and is dedicated to his craft of exorcising and purging curses. It’s just that people just can’t stand being around him or dealing with him due to his personality.
While there isn’t anything bad about Todo’s personality when you look at it from an objective standpoint, it is the fact that he can be extremely eccentric when it comes to his likes and dislikes that makes him unlikable for a lot of different people in the Jujutsu Kaisen universe. So, even though he may be a strong Jujutsu sorcerer that could defeat almost any curse without breaking a sweat, his off-putting personality repels people.
Todo’s Personality Explained
As mentioned, Todo’s personality is what repels people from him. In fact, even his peers over at Kyoto Jujutsu High School aren’t necessarily fond of him, even though they recognize how strong he is. So, with that said, we’re here to look at his personality so that you understand why everyone in Jujutsu High School finds him off-putting.
We previously mentioned that Aoi Todo is extremely eccentric, especially when it comes to what he likes and dislikes. As to the things that he likes, he often comes off as a person who lives for battles, as he often boasts about how strong he is and how big his muscles are. He lives for the thrill of battle, which makes him come off as a meathead to many different people in Jujutsu Kaisen.
There’s also the fact that his eccentric personality is reflected in his very vocal love for the pop idol named Takada-chan. He often talks about Takada-chan and will stop at nothing to ensure he doesn’t get late for meet-and-greets and to watch her shows on television. At one point, he even thought that catching Takada-chan’s show was more important than the strategy meeting of the Kyoto branch in its fight with the Tokyo branch during the Kyoto Goodwill arc.
Much of Todo’s personality could be attributed to his being born an incredibly strong child. Due to his strength, he felt that everything in life had no meaning, as he was able to breeze through some of the challenges that he faced without breaking a sweat. And it is the fact that he feels that a lot of things can be mundane that makes him easily bored.
Todo hates things and people that can be boring as he hates being bored. One of the first things he does when meeting a fellow guy is what kind of girls they like so that he can immediately read what kind of person he is talking to. But while it is understandable for different people to have different tastes, Todo regards an answer different from his own tastes as a sign that the person is boring. In fact, he immediately branded Megumi as a boring person and attacked him after getting an answer that wasn’t similar to his taste in girls.
Another instance of his tendency to see things as mundane is when he finds out that Yuta Okkotsu, the most powerful Jujutsu sorcerer out of all of the students, isn’t going to attend the Goodwill Event. In that regard, he thought that this event was going to be boring and uneventful, and that was one of the things that made him easily lose interest in the friendly fight against the Tokyo branch.
Todo also sees his peers in the Kyoto branch as people that aren’t his equals because he is far stronger than any of them. That was why he didn’t respect his peers well enough during the Goodwill Event and would rather solo the entire Tokyo branch on his own instead of working with his schoolmates. In fact, the only person that he got along quite well with was Yuji Itadori because of their similar taste in women.
That said, it is easy to understand why people aren’t necessarily fond of Aoi Todo, as he can be an insufferable person who tends to take things to the extreme. Who beats a person to a bloody pulp just because he has a different taste in girls? And who is willing to forego a strategy meeting just to watch a television show?
That’s Todo for you. His off-putting personality makes him such a dislikable character for the other characters of Jujutsu Kaisen. No one wants to work with him as he doesn’t like working with other people he deems inferior to his own strength and who aren’t similar to him in terms of his taste in women. Think of it as someone who thinks negatively of other people just because they aren’t the same, and you would completely understand why Todo has a personality that tends to turn off all of his peers from both of the Jujutsu High School branches.
