Jujutsu Kaisen: How Did Toji & Megumi Enter Dagon’s Domain?

The Shibuya Incident is the center of the action in the anime adaptation of Jujutsu Kaisen, and the real battles, which took place after Gojo was sealed, finally started. Currently, as far as the anime is concerned, the fight in focus is the one against Dagon, and it has introduced us to many new characters and their skills and abilities. While we will talk about Dagon’s Domain in this article, we will not focus on it but rather on how Megumi and Toji managed to enter it from the outside, which is usually very difficult to do.

Megumi broke through Dagon’s Domain with his own Domain

So, as part of the Shibuya Incident, Kento Nanami, Naobito Zenin, and Maki Zenin continued to find their way to where Gojo was, and they encountered Dagon. Although he initially seemed like a weak opponent, it turned out that Dagon was much more powerful than the protagonists expected, especially after revealing his true form. While the protagonists seemingly had the upper hand, Dagon was able to activate his Domain, Horizon of the Captivating Skandha, trapping his enemies inside.

Horizon of the Captivating Skandha is a type of Domain Expansion exclusively used by Dagon. Horizon of the Captivating Skandha is an Innate Domain built from the molding of cursed energy. The Domain consists of what seems to be a small tropical island with sandy beaches and a palm tree forest in the middle; a seemingly endless ocean surrounds it, and there doesn’t seem to be anything else present.

As with any Domain Expansion, Horizon of the Captivating Skandha allows all of its users’ attacks to hit their opponent with greater power. Any shikigami summoned by the user will make a successful attack against the opponent, which is in line with the sure-hit rule that governs all Domains.

As we know, Domain Expansion is a special and powerful technique that enables the users to materialize their innate domain by casting a barrier to create a separate space and using cursed energy to construct an environment. Only high-level Jujutsu Sorceres and Curses can claim to use this technique. Materializing a Domain requires a huge level of Cursed Energy, but it offers many advantages when used against opponents.

One of these advantages is the fact that the Domain is nearly unbreachable. A powerful sorcerer can enter it from the outside, and there are ways to open it from the inside, but it is exceptionally difficult, which is why Dagon was sure he was safe within the Domain. This is why he was shocked to see Megumi, who had not been sucked inside the Domain alongside Nanami, Naobito, and Maki, suddenly appeared inside. So, how was Megumi able to do it?

Well, there are several ways to counter or limit the effects of an already active Domain, but it requires an extremely powerful character to do so. One such way is by activating your Domain from the outside, which would trigger a clash of Domains upon contact, and we know that that means – the stronger one wins, and if there is no clear winner, the effects of both Domains are limited to a certain degree. And this is what happened here.

Megumi activated his Domain from the outside, and it was enough to create a small opening in Dagon’s Domain through which he managed to enter. It also annulled Dagon’s sure-hit technique, making him vulnerable to attacks now. This is why Dagon had to focus on Megumi, as he was maintaining his Domain; his Domain wasn’t powerful enough to destroy Dagon’s Domain, but it was powerful enough to weaken it.

What was Megumi’s initial plan with Dagon’s Domain?

While Megumi’s initial plan was to help his friends (and Naobito) defeat Dagon, he soon realized that he should give his allies another chance at defeating Dagon, so he told Nanami that he would once again create a small opening and that all of them should simply exit through it, allowing them to fight against Dagon on equal terms once again.

Nanami gathered all of them around Megumi, and when Dagon realized what their plan was, he tried to attack them to stop them, but things completely changed soon.

Namely, before Dagon managed to attack them and before they managed to escape, someone entered through the Domain, and it was soon revealed that it was Toji Fushiguro, who noticed the opening from the outside and simply entered Dagon’s Domain, shocking absolutely everyone. (At that moment, Megumi had no clue who Toji was, as he had forgotten what he looked like.)

So, what happened then? Well, Megumi’s initial plan failed, but since Toji was there, the outcome was quite obvious. Toji took over the fight against Dagon and used the Playful Cloud to completely take over the fight and defeat Dagon, who stood no chance against the uniquely powerful Toji, who thus saved their lives. However, he did ruin his son’s original plan with the Domain.
