30 Most Powerful Jedi of All Time (RANKED)

There are two main factions in George Lucas’ Star Wars universe – the Jedi and the Sith. The former represent the Light Side of the Force and are the protagonists of Lucas’ world, while the latter are practitioners of the Dark Side of the Force and are the antagonists. The Jedi are quite powerful Force users and throughout the ancient history of the order, we have seen a lot of different members of the Jedi Order.
Some of these characters are quite skilled and are among the most powerful characters to ever have existed in George Lucas’ fictional universe. In today’s article, we at Fiction Horizon are going to bring you a list of the 30 most powerful Jedi of all time, as they appeared in Lucas’ franchise. We are going to focus primarily on the movies, as the inclusion of the expanded universe’s rich history would make this article far less practical. Enjoy!

He murders his father in The Force Awakens, which is a highlight of this film. Then in the next film, The Last Jedi, he also executes his master Snoke and takes his place as Supreme Leader of the First Order. In The Rise of Skywalker, he experiences redemption, especially through his connection to his mother Leia and the appearance of his father’s ghost, Han Solo, which influences him to switch back to the good side of the Force whenLeia dies.
He travels to the planet Exegol to help Rey in her fight against Emperor Palpatine, who is none other than her grandfather. Rey defeats him, but the Force of her action kills her. Despite their best efforts to the contrary, Ti was unable to help Fives as he suffered a breakdown, and after his death, his secrets were revealed to only a few.
Ti had a weak relationship with the Kaminoan rulers during this time, struggling to work with their unemotional demeanor and struggling to balance their compassion for the clones with demands to produce capable soldiers for war.

The downfall of Secura and many other Jedi was Force-felt by Grandmaster Yoda, who survived the Purge and ultimately fled into exile as the Galactic Empire came to power in place of the Republic.

Tyranus convinced several powerful corporations to turn against the Republic. He commissioned the manufacture of large numbers of battle droids and led the armed forces of the Confederation of Independent Star Systems to fight the Republic.
His master Darth Sidious wanted to use the civil war that had broken out in the identity of Supreme Chancellor Palpatine as an occasion to grant himself emergency powers and to set up a clone army. In the Clone Wars that followed, Tyranus wiped out both parties so that Sidious’ takeover would seem like a redemption.
After the Battle of Geonosis, there was a fight between Darth Tyranus, on one side, and Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi, on the other, in which he got the upper hand. He cut off Anakin’s right forearm and incapacitated the Jedi. However, he could not hold his own against his old master Yoda, who intervened in the fight, and fled.

Tyranus was then beheaded by Anakin Skywalker on the orders of Chancellor Palpatine. This would lead Anakin to the Dark Side, as Sidious had picked him as his new apprentice.

Fisto fought in various campaigns and was accepted as a member of the Jedi High Council during the war. Fisto participated in several battles at the start of the war, first in the opening war conflict on Geonosis and shortly after in a covert operation on the planet Hissrich.
After separatist leader Nute Gunray escaped Republican detention, Fisto and his former padawan Nahdar Vebb were tasked with locating the refugee. However, their mission took a turn for the worse when they faced the infamous Jedi hunter and separatist general Grievous in his hiding place.
While Vebb died at the hands of the General, Fisto nearly defeated him in battle and escaped with his life but without Gunray, ultimately failing the mission. During a schism between the Mon Calamari and Quarren peoples on Mon Cala, Fisto was sent to aid the Mon Calamari against the Quarrens, backed by the separatists.
The fight turned out to be difficult, as the separatists finally overpowered the armed forces of the Republic. With a separatist victory looming, Fisto and several others went into hiding, though he was eventually captured and tortured.
The Mon Calamari and Quarren then unleashed their alliance and retaliated against the separatists, aided by the freed Fisto. After the Mon Cala campaign, Fisto took on a more active role in the High Council.
As the end of the war drew near, Anakin Skywalker revealed to Mace Windu that Chancellor Palpatine was a Sith Lord. Windu took Fisto and his other masters Agen Kolar and Saesee Tiin to Palpatine’s office to arrest him. The Dark Lord easily killed Kolar, Tiin, and Fisto, and Windu quickly joined them.

Lacking her ancient lightsabers, she escapes the Imperial inquisitors while looking for a way to help the galaxy’s citizens living under the new tyranny. Species: Cerean
Home Planet: Cerea
Lightsaber Color: Blue
Debut: The Phantom Menace (1999)

Like his Jedi peers, he led the Republic clone forces against the Separatist Alliance forces in multiple battles across the galaxy, including the First and Second battles on Geonosis and the Outer Rim Victories.
In 19 BBY, the third and final year of the war, Mundi oversaw the Republican invasion of Mygeeto with the 21st Nova Corps under his command. During the campaign, Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine ordered the soldiers of the Grand Army to execute their Jedi leaders in accordance with Order 66, resulting in the deaths of Mundi and the majority of the Jedi Order.
Despite Mundi’s death, his lightsaber survived for many years and eventually came into the possession of collector Dok-Ondar, who told a First Order sergeant about some of his past. Mundi was a lightsaber expert who had at least some makashi skills.
Mundi also had extremely fast reflexes, which allowed him to react in time to defend himself for a short time after his clone troops had attacked him when Order 66 came into effect. He was, eventually, killed during the encounter, but Mundi was able to repel several shots and kill two of his soldiers before they killed him.
5. Qui-Gon Jinn
Full Name: Qui-Gon Jinn
Species: Human
Home Planet: Coruscant
Lightsaber Color: Green
Debut: The Phantom Menace (1999)
Played By: Liam Neeson
Qui-Gon Jinn was a wise but headstrong Jedi master and mentor of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Qui-Gon was never accepted into the Jedi Council because of his idiosyncrasy and constant resistance to the decisions of the Jedi Council. Qui-Gon had a green lightsaber.
It was he who thought the young Anakin Skywalker was the Chosen One and wanted to train him to be a Jedi. Qui-Gon was an excellent fighter and taught Obi-Wan Kenobi everything he knows. He was the former Padawan of Count Dooku, who succumbed to the Dark Side of the Force after Qui-Gon’s death and became Darth Tyranus.
He and Obi-Wan investigated the crisis on Naboo, where the Trade Federation had put up a blockade. After the military began to take control of the planet, the Jedi freed Queen Amidala and helped her escape. To repair their damaged ship, they landed on Tatooine and Qui-Gon met the slave boy Anakin Skywalker.
He recognized the extraordinary strength of power in Anakin and came to believe that Anakin was the Chosen One to defeat the Sith and bring balance to the Force. He then decided to take him to Coruscant and train him as a Jedi. By making a bet with Anakin’s Master Watto in conjunction with the pod race that Anakin eventually won, Qui-Gon freed the boy from his slavery.
Before he fled to Coruscant with Anakin, Obi-Wan, the Queen and her guards, he fought against the dark Sith disciple Darth Maul, who was pursuing the Queen. When he introduced Anakin to the Jedi Council on Coruscant, the Council initially refused to train the boy as a Jedi because he was too old.
After the Queen decided to return to Naboo to free the planet from the occupation, Qui-Gon was sent together with Obi-Wan to accompany them there once again. There, he was later killed in a lightsaber duel against Darth Maul; before dying, he expressed his wish for Obi-Wan to take over Anakin’s training.
During the Clone Wars, Qui-Gon managed to discover the path to immortality and become one with the Force. So, even though he was dead, he was able to speak to Anakin, Yoda, and Obi-Wan through the Force in the form of a Force Ghost.
4. Mace Windu
Full Name: Mace Windu
Species: Human
Home Planet: Haruun Kal
Lightsaber Color: Purple
Debut: The Phantom Menace (1999)
Played By: Samuel L. Jackson

He is an instructor and creator of Fighting Form VII (named Vaapad). Only masters who are skilled in various forms can reach Form VII, as it is a risky fighting style, because it comes close to the Sith conception of physical combat. Mace was one of the best lightsaber duelists in the Jedi Order, and he was one of only two Jedi to completely dominate the Vaapad.
Only two opponents were said to have beaten him: Yoda and Count Dooku, and he used to practice with Qui-Gon Jinn, usually resulting in a draw. He is a simple Jedi, as denoted by his garments.
Mace Windu served the Jedi Order his entire life, training numerous Jedi, including Depa Billaba, Echuu Shen-Jon, and Iguni. It was Master Windu who led 212 Jedi into combat at the Battle of Geonosis and defeated the deadly bounty hunter Jango Fett. He continued to serve the Republic through the Clone Wars, often on the fierce front lines.
In the final year of the war, Windu confronted and came close to defeating Darth Sidious in a difficult duel. However, Darth Sidious’s apparent defeat was still not secured when Anakin Skywalker’s transition to the Dark Side of the Force happened; manipulated by the Chancellor, Anakin seriously injured Master Windu who would later be mortally wounded by Darth Sidious and thrown from his office window.
Windu’s death marked the beginning of the Great Jedi Purge.

2. Luke Skywalker
Full Name: Luke Skywalker
Species: Human
Home Planet: Tatooine
Lightsaber Color: Blue / Green
Debut: Star Wars (1977)
Played By: Mark Hamill
Luke Skywalker is a Jedi Master from George Lucas’ Star Wars saga and one of the saga’s principal characters. Son of Anakin Skywalker and Queen Amidala of Naboo, he is the twin brother of Leia Organa. He was born in a medical facility in the asteroid belt of Polis Massa, where his mother was hidden from Vader.
He was raised on the planet Tatooine by his relatives Beru and Owen Lars on a moisture farm. When R2-D2 comes to the Lars farm with his companion C-3PO, Luke’s life changes beyond recognition. Looking for the unruly R2-D2, he meets Ben Kenobi, who introduces him to the Force and gives him the sword of his father, which he took after a duel with Anakin Skywalker (then Darth Vader).
He and Han Solo later leave Tatooine to hand the plans of the Death Star over to the Rebels. Obi-Wan is soon killed, and Luke destroys the station in the Battle of Yavin by piloting an X-wing.
After the Battle of Hoth, he goes to the planet Dagobah to train with Jedi Master Yoda. Wanting to save his friends, he interrupts the training and goes to face Darth Vader. During the confrontation, Luke loses his hand and learns that Darth Vader is Anakin Skywalker – his father.
During the battle for Endor, Luke has to face Vader once again. The Emperor, seeing that Luke will not join him, tortures him until Vader, whose love for his son has turned him back to the Light Side, kills Emperor Palpatine by sacrificing his life. Luke takes his body and escapes at the last minute before the Death Star is destroyed.
After the Battle of Endor, Luke decided to train new Jedi Knights to rebuild the Order. One of his students was the son of Leia Organa and Han Solo, Ben. After several years of study, Luke’s nephew rebelled, went to the Dark Side and killed all of Luke’s Padawans, acknowledging Snoke as his new master.
Luke, blaming himself for what had happened, gave up continuing to teach the new Jedi and decided to go into exile. At first, he didn’t want to train Rey, but later decided to take on the task. After Rey left, he wanted to destroy the Tree of Power, but Yoda’s Force Ghost came to his aid and destroyed the tree with lightning. In the last scenes, Luke fights his nephew Kylo Ren, but when it turns out that Luke is just an illusion, the action of the film moves to Ahch-To where the hero dies looking at two suns.
1. Yoda
Full Name: Yoda
Species: Unknown
Home Planet: Unknown
Lightsaber Color: Green
Debut: The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
Played By: Frank Oz
Yoda is a Jedi from the Star Wars universe and one of the most recognisable characters of the whole franchise. He is a small, green creature of unknown origin; Yoda’s origin (his home planet and his race) are still one of the biggest mysteries in the Star Wars universe and Lucas never revealed any details that can be considered as canon.
He is a Jedi Grand Master and the leader of the Jedi Council. Yoda is both exceptionally old and exceptionally powerful, so powerful – in fact – that he could easily be given the title of the most powerful Jedi in the movie franchise (we’re not counting the expanded universe because, for one, it is truly enormous for such a brief analysis and, likewise, it changed a lot in the recent years so it’s not always easy to determine what’s canon or not).
Although his forte is the Force – Yoda is by far the most powerful Force user in the series – Yoda is also an excellent Lightsaber user, as demonstrated on several occasions during the movies (specifically during his fights with Count Dooku and Darth Sidious). His Lightsaber skills are surpassed only by his friend and colleague, Mace Windu. Aside from being powerful, Yoda has a lot of other qualities.
He is a great tactician, as demonstrated during the Clone Wars, very knowledgeable (he can even manipulate the Force as to see the future) and very wise, surpassing all other Jedi in those aspects. Yoda was first introduced in the second movie, The Empire Strikes Back (actually Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back), as a “crazy old guy” living in the swamps of Dagobah.
He eventually revealed himself to be the great Jedi Master and taught young Luke Skywalker, before eventually passing away at the age of 900 and becoming a Force Ghost, just like his former friends. His story is further expanded in the prequel trilogy and the expanded universe, while he makes a brief appearance as a Force Ghost in the sequel trilogy, talking to his former Padawan, Luke Skywalker.
