Nami is the navigator of the Straw Hat Pirates in One Piece, as we all know too well. The girl had a very shady past due to her association with Arlong, but once Luffy showed how far he was willing to go to save her, she joined the crew and became one of Luffy’s most loyal friends. In this article, we will talk about Nami’s story in One Piece, as you will find out what happens to her and whether there is a chance that she might die in the story or not.

  • Article Breakdown:
  • Nami is one of the protagonists of One Piece and one of the series’ best-known characters. She was also one of the first members of Luffy’s Straw Hat Crew.
  • Nami has left the crew once and seemingly betrayed them, but this was not sincere, as it turned out when Luffy and her friends saved her from the dreaded Arlong. She has since been a loyal member of the crew.
  • The ending of One Piece is not known, but it seems unlikely that Eiichiro Oda would simply kill off Nami like that.

Nami is a loyal member of the Straw Hat Crew and she’s unlikely to leave or betray them

Since Nami is still alive and well, all we can do here to properly explain her role in the story is tell you her story! So, here we go.

As a newborn, Nami is an orphan who was adopted with her half-sister Nojiko by Bell-mère, a navy lieutenant. The three went to live in the village of Coco, on the Conomi Islands in the East Blue. Eight years later, however, the village was targeted by the fish-man pirate Arlong, who occupied it with his crew by imposing enormous taxes on the inhabitants: Bell-mère, unable to pay for both her and the two little girls, was killed by the pirate in exchange for the lives of the daughters.

Nami was then kidnapped by Arlong and forced to act as their mapmaker, tattooing the symbol of their crew on her arm. The Fish-Man, however, made a pact with her: if she managed to obtain one hundred million berries, she could buy back the village. From that day, therefore, Nami began to steal treasures from other pirates to reach the necessary quota. Years later, while she was attempting to steal Buggy’s crew’s treasures, she met Monkey D. Luffy and Roronoa Zoro.

Together with them, she neutralizes the pirates by stealing their treasures. Later, after defeating Kuro’s gang and meeting the sniper Usopp, she betrays them by stealing their ship and heading to her village, having almost managed to obtain the amount requested by Arlong. However, the money is confiscated from her by the corrupt naval officer Nezumi on behalf of Arlong. Nami, furious, tries to erase Arlong’s tattoo with a knife, and when Luffy, Zoro, Usopp, and Sanji arrive, she asks them for help. The four neutralize Arlong’s crew and Nezumi himself, who places a bounty on Luffy’s head.

Nami then joins the four, forming the Straw Hat crew. Together with them, she enters the Grand Line, where they meet the princess of Arabasta, Nefertari Vivi. She reveals to them that her kingdom has been targeted by a member of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, Sr. Crocodile, asking them to help her. They agree, and, leaving for Arabasta, they land in Little Garden, where they face the member of the Baroque Works, Mr 3. Here, Nami is stung by an insect, contracting a serious illness, and, to cure her, the crew heads to Drum, where they meet the doctor TonyTony Chopper, who joins them.

In Arabasta, Nami faces and defeats Miss Doublefinger, while Luffy neutralizes Crocodile. Once on Skypiea, Nami helps Luffy face Enel, the despotic tyrant of the island. Back on the sea, they escape Foxy and Admiral Aokiji, but in Water Seven, Nico Robin, an archaeologist who joined them in Arabasta, is kidnapped by CP9: the crew, together with the cyborg Franky, heads to Enies Lobby to save her. There, Nami neutralizes Kalifa.

Having set sail again, they arrive at Thriller Bark, which is where they meet the skeleton musician Brook and where Absalom kidnaps Nami to force her to marry him: she frees herself, faces him, and defeats him.

When the fighting is over, she meets Laura, a pirate who gives her a Vivre Card from her mother as thanks for her help. Once they reach the Sabaody Archipelago, the crew is attacked by Admiral Kizaru and Bartholomew Kuma, who hurl the crew members around the world. Nami lands on Weatheria, an island in the sky where various scholars dedicated to the study of meteorology live.

Here, the girl, after receiving the captain’s message about their next meeting, begins to train and improve her navigation skills. After two years, the crew reunites again at Sabaody; together, they set sail for Fish-Man Island, where Nami receives Jinbe’s apologies for what happened to her village.

Once they enter the New World, they land in Punk Hazard, where Luffy forms a pact with the pirate Trafalgar Law to take down Emperor Kaido; here, Nami helps the children locked up there to escape, then entrusts them to the care of the marine Tashigi, and the samurai Kin’emon to find little Momonosuke. Arriving in Dressrosa, a kingdom governed by Fleet member Donquixote Doflamingo, Sanji, Nami, Brook, and Chopper are attacked by the Empress Big Mom’s ship, being forced to temporarily separate from the crew.

The four head to Zou, where they meet the Mink tribe. Here, Sanji is kidnapped by Capone Bege, a member of Big Mom’s crew, to force him to marry Charlotte Pudding, daughter of the empress, to stipulate an alliance between the family Charlotte and the Vinsmoke. Nami, together with Luffy, Brook, Chopper, and the minks Pedro and Carrot, heads to Tottoland to save Sanji. Here, they team up with Capone Bege to bring down the empress, also discovering that Laura’s mother is Big Mom and knowing its twin Chiffon.

Their plan, however, doesn’t work, and they are forced to flee. Nami, in the meantime, manages to make an ally of Zeus, one of Big Mom’s homeys, and take him with her. Once in Wa, the crew reunites and discovers the truth about Kin’emon and his companions, learning the story of Kozuki Oden, Momonosuke’s father.

Here, Nami helps prepare the offensive against Kaido, aided by the kunoichi Shinobu. During the assault on Onigashima, she briefly faces Ulti, managing to defeat her thanks to the help of Zeus and the intervention of Big Mom, who arrived in Wano in the meantime; she later undertakes to protect O-Tama, who joined the group during the assault, while he transforms the Pirates of the Hundred Beasts into their allies with her powers.

Ultimately, Kaido and Big Mom were defeated, while the rest of the crew headed to Egghead, where they are currently fighting Kizaru. And with this, you can see that Nami is alive and well and that she is a very loyal member of the crew.

Will Nami survive until the end?

While One Piece certainly is heading towards its ending, there is still much to go. Now, Nami is alive and well and is adventuring with the Straw Hats, heading towards Laugh Tale and the One Piece treasure. Now, we don’t know what Oda has in plan for his main characters at this point in the story, but seeing how his main characters have survived for more than 1,000 chapters, it seems unlikely that he will start killing them off, one by one, just like that.

This doesn’t seem like a likely outcome knowing Oda, and we honestly don’t think it will happen like that. Now, this doesn’t guarantee the safety of just about every crew member. Still, we don’t think that Nami is a likely candidate in this aspect, seeing how she has been around since the very beginning and how her story is very important.

At this moment and from this perspective, Nami’s death wouldn’t make much sense, and there is really nothing firm that points to her dying, so we don’t think that she is a likely candidate in that aspect.
