The Wheel Of Time Parents Guide: What Age Is It Appropriate For?

When it comes to any sort of series, it is important for parents to know whether or not the series is actually appropriate for children. After all, it can be difficult to monitor what our kids are watching when they can simply stream different shows on their mobile devices, as some shows may not be appropriate for them. As such, it is important for us to know if something as popular as The Wheel of Time, a fantasy series, is okay for children. So, what age is it appropriate for?

The Wheel of Time is appropriate for children aged 14 and above because it is rated TV-14. This means that it does contain strong violence and sexual references that are not suitable for those younger than 14. In fact, the TV-14 rating means that parents should be cautioned when it comes to The Wheel of Time.

Even though The Wheel of Time is a fantasy series and is based on books that can be appropriate for younger teenagers, you have to know that the Amazon series adaptation has plenty of different content that may not be appropriate for kids. As such, it is best to make sure that kids younger than 14 do not watch The Wheel of Time.

The Wheel Of Time Parents Guide Rating Explained

The Wheel of Time is an epic fantasy series that is based on the best-selling books by the late Robert Jordan. This series is exclusive on Amazon Prime, and that means that you can catch it whenever you want if you have a Prime subscription. As long as you are subscribed to Amazon Prime, it will be easy for you to watch The Wheel of Time through your smart devices and your computers.

However, it is the fact that The Wheel of Time is so accessible that should make some parents concerned about it. Epic fantasy series are all the rage in TV networks and streaming services nowadays. And that means that it will be easy for any person regardless of their age to stream such shows through their mobile devices. This makes it harder for parents to monitor what their children are watching, unlike before when most shows were only airing on TV networks.

Often compared to Game of Thrones as the next big fantasy series of our day, The Wheel of Time has made sure that it avoids some of the mistakes that HBO committed with Game of Thrones. Of course, we are referring to the heavy sexual content and the controversial scenes of the show such as how they portrayed women. The good news for parents is that this is not something you should expect from The Wheel of Time because it does come from an author who made his books to be appropriate for younger teens.

But what you should know is that, despite the lack of heavy sexual content (or even any sexual content at all despite a few minor nude scenes) and controversial issues, The Wheel of Time is still rated TV-14. That means that parents are strongly cautioned about their kids watching The Wheel of Time because there is some content that is still not appropriate for them.

Shows that come with a TV-14 rating are not uncommon, as these are mostly the shows that air on prime time. In most cases, a show with a TV-14 rating does bleep out or censor some of the heavy content that kids are unable to watch. But the difference here is that those shows air on TV while The Wheel of Time can be streamed on-demand. This will make it more difficult for parents to keep The Wheel of Time away from their children.

The good news is that Amazon Prime does have an age restriction option that parents can use whenever their kids are using the same account as theirs. This will allow you to easily control what they are watching on Amazon Prime and prevent them from trying to stream The Wheel of Time if they fall below the appropriate age to watch the series.

What Age Is The Wheel Of Time Appropriate For?

As we have mentioned, The Wheel of Time is rated TV-14. This basically means that The Wheel of Time is already age-appropriate for kids or teens who are at least 14 years old. Meanwhile, any child or teen under the age of 14 should be monitored well enough by their parents because The Wheel of Time contains content that is not yet appropriate for their age.

However, if you have a child that is about 13 years old and is already displaying a good level of maturity of their age, you may be able to allow them to watch The Wheel of Time but under your supervision. Be warned, however, that the series does contain a lot of content that may not be appropriate for a child under 14, regardless of how mature they may be.

Why Is The Wheel Of Time TV-14?

Now that you know that The Wheel of Time is rated TV-14, you might be wondering why it carries that rating. Well, for starters, that is because it was deemed to have content that may not be suitable for kids 13 years old or younger.

The Wheel of Time, except for a small and minor nude scene in the pilot episode, hardly has any sexual content, which was something that kept parents from watching Game of Thrones with their children. But what you should know is that this series still tackles some mature topics while also showing some scenes that may be too much to handle for kids under the age of 14.

Is The Wheel of Time violent?

So, first of all, the reason why The Wheel of Time is rated TV-14 is that it does come with a lot of violence. Epic fantasy shows almost always have a lot of violence because violence is usually one of the central themes of such stories. This includes fighting with swords or fists and using magic as a weapon.

In The Wheel of Time, aside from the usual swords and magic tropes common in most epic fantasy shows, themes such as death and killing are also quite prevalent to the point that plenty of people die or get killed in almost every episode. As such, if you want to keep your kids away from anything that is violent or can incite violence, it is best to keep them away from The Wheel of Time.

Is The Wheel of Time gory?

While there may be some fantasy shows that have violence, what makes The Wheel of Time rated TV-14 is the blood and gore that is prevalent. Think of it as something that is similar to Game of Thrones in terms of how gory it is.

Even though it doesn’t have the same sexual content or the swearing and cursing that some other fantasy series have, The Wheel of Time shows a lot of gory scenes that may be too much for children. Such scenes include bloody fights with monstrous beings called Trollocs, which are so savage that they tend to kill people in the bloodiest and goriest ways possible.

Plenty of the scenes in The Wheel of Time can be quite gory to the point that it may lead to nightmares or psychological issues when kids get exposed to it. This is why parents should be cautioned when it comes to this series and kids under the age of 14.

Does The Wheel Of Time Have A Sequel?

The good news for fans out there and for kids who are still too young to watch the series but are eventually going to get old enough to watch it is that The Wheel of Time does have a sequel season. As of this writing, season 2 is already in the works, and the crew is already filming it.

In fact, it should be expected that The Wheel of Time will have more than a few seasons, considering that the entire book series is more than a dozen long. This means that you should expect that this series should have at least five seasons and probably much longer than that, depending on how it is written and how it does well in terms of its audience rating.

So, if you have a child who is still too young to watch it, you may be able to allow them to watch The Wheel of Time sometime down the road as the series progresses with more seasons and as your child grows older.

Is The Wheel Of Time Ok To Watch With Your Kids?

Plainly speaking, The Wheel of Time should not be a show that you should be watching with your kids because of all of the violent and gory scenes that are prevalent in the show. There are also a few swear words thrown around here and there, and that could be a problem for you even though you may be able to keep your kids from watching the gory scenes. It is best to wait until your kids are old enough to watch The Wheel of Time.
