Was Monkey D. Dragon a Devil Fruit User & What Was the Name of His Devil Fruit
The One Piece universe has a plethora of fascinating yet mysterious characters, many of which possess some rather interesting powers. Monkey D. Dragon has been the subject of speculation for many chapters now, often leading to some incredibly wild One Piece theories, but many fans still wonder if Monkey D. Dragon is a Devil Fruit user – and what the name of his Devil Fruit could be.
Monkey D. Dragon is not a confirmed Devil Fruit user in One Piece, but fans believe he is due to his affinity with storms, lighting, and wind. If he is a Devil Fruit user, he may have eaten the Logia Wind-Wind Fruit (Kaze Kaze no Mi), Paramecia Wheather Wheather Fruit (Ara Ara no Mi), or a Mythical Zoan Human Human Fruit (Hito Hito no Mi) that’s modeled after Zeus – it’s unknown if this Devil Fruit actually exists, but it’s quite possible.
While there is no official confirmation on how Monkey D. Dragon got his powers in One Piece, there are numerous pieces of evidence to indicate he may have eaten a pretty powerful Devil Fruit in the past. Stick around to find out everything you need to know about Monkey D. Dragon’s special powers, if he ate a Devil Fruit, and which Devil Fruit powers he may possess in One Piece.
Is Monkey D. Dragon a Devil Fruit User?
Considering that all of the most powerful characters in One Piece have a tendency to use Devil Fruit powers, many fans believe that Monkey D. Dragon has indeed consumed a certain Devil Fruit and gained its special attributes as a result. This is believed by the vast majority of One Piece fans to this day, but there is still a ton of mystery surrounding the topic since it’s never been confirmed.
Monkey D. Dragon having a special Devil Fruit power kept up his sleeve is certainly not out of the question, especially considering how strong and renowned he is in the One Piece world. If Monkey D. Dragon does prove to be a Devil Fruit user, it is quite likely his powers would be awakened at a later stage as well.
Which Devil Fruit Did Monkey D. Dragon Eat?
There are so many different types of Devil Fruits in the One Piece universe, many of which are not accounted for – meaning he could have eaten one of many Devil Fruits without the One Piece main characters being aware of it. Each Devil Fruit grants a unique ability and would allow Monkey D. Dragon to perform numerous acts of supernatural power.
One thing that quite a few fans have noticed is Monkey D. Dragon’s special affinity with the weather, as he is often surrounded by stormy weather and strong winds whenever he appears throughout the entire One Piece storyline. Fans have used this as a primary note of interest when trying to determine what kind of Devil Fruit he may have consumed.
Monkey D. Dragon’s behavior at Luffy’s execution (which he was saved from) is a main focal point here – as he caused a massive shift in the weather and is believed to have fashioned a bolt of lightning that struck the execution platform, which ultimately led to Luffy’s rescue. In the manga’s chapter 558, page 12, Smoker discovers that Monkey D. Dragon is Luffy’s father and makes the following comment: “That explains what happened at Loguetown”.
Some fans believe that this only explains Monkey D. Dragon’s behavior regarding Luffy’s execution sentence. But, others use this as evidence to indicate that Monkey D. Dragon does indeed have more control over the weather than fans and other characters previously thought – unless you consider this event as coincidental, due to Luffy’s unbelievable strokes of luck.
There are a handful of possibilities concerning which Devil Fruit Monkey D. Dragon could have eaten in his past – some more believable than others, but they all have some interesting connections. Below are the most probable Devil Fruit types or specific Devil Fruits that Monkey D. Dragon could have eaten in order to obtain his unique and advantageous abilities in One Piece, with images thanks to the One Piece Wiki and One Piece Fanon.
1. Mythical Zoan Human-Human Fruit (Hito Hito no Mi: Zeus)
One Piece creators recently introduced the power of Monkey D. Luffy’s Devil Fruit – the Hito Hito no Mi, Modeled after the Sun God Nika (other than the previously known Gomu Gomu no Mi). While this power is undeniably insane to watch, it also points to the possibility of there being a special Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit that is modeled after different gods or deities.
The possibility is open-ended, but it leaves room for the chance of there being a special Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit that’s modeled after Zeus. Zeus is a god that’s worshipped in the One Piece universe in various ways, and his name has also been given to one of Big Mom’s more powerful homies.
Another interesting point to note, especially why many fans feel this theory to be more likely, is that Weather Lords’ abilities have a special connection to their emotions. This could be an influential factor considering that Monkey D. Dragon’s powers seemed to get stronger while saving Luffy from his execution – not to mention the irony of Monkey D. Dragon and Monkey D. Luffy possessing the same Devil Fruit type modeled on different deities.
If Monkey D. Dragon does possess this Devil Fruit, he would naturally gain control over all of the skies in the One Piece world – which includes winds, rain, and lightning, among other weather and sky-related abilities by proxy. Monkey D. Dragon has shown off some similar abilities in the One Piece series so far, so he could very well possess this Devil Fruit – that is if it actually exists.
2. Logia Wind-Wind Fruit (Kaze Kaze no Mi)
One of the most well-believed and theorized Devil Fruit powers that Monkey D. Dragon is thought to wield is the power of the Wind Wind Fruit – or possibly a similar devil fruit also related to wind. The Kaze Kaze no Mi is a Logia-type Devil Fruit that allows the user to create, control, and transform themselves into the form of wind at will, turning the user into a Wind Human.
Luffy’s flashback also revealed that Dragon was the one who saved countless people from the fire in Grey Terminal, making use of his Wind powers to clear a path for them to escape. As a result, it definitely wouldn’t be a stretch to say that he has eaten a Logia-type Devil Fruit related to wind.
That being said, one of the biggest issues with this possibility is that the Wind Wind devil fruit is believed to have been eaten by Vento Caelus. Still, Oda is known for incorporating tons of twists into the One Piece world, meaning there could still be a chance that Monkey D. Dragon did eat this Devil Fruit or a similar Devil Fruit.
3. Paramecia Wheather Wheather Fruit (Ara Ara no Mi)
The Ara Ara no Mi is a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit, meaning that it allows the user full control and manipulation of all things related to the weather – since “Ara” means Weather in Japanese. While this Devil Fruit would entail similar storm and sky-related abilities, it is believed to have been eaten by Garros D. Claude – again, leaving a complex gap in the theory.
Monkey D. Dragon is still shrouded by mystery to this day, with fans only finding out he is Luffy’s father in more recent releases. While there is still a ton of debate surrounding which Devil Fruit Monkey D. Dragon could have eaten, many fans believe that Oda will unveil the truth sometime in the near future.
