As far as the characters of One Piece are concerned, Kaido is definitely among the most intriguing ones in the whole franchise. Now, the former Emperor of the Sea is likewise among the strongest characters in the whole franchise, and we think that he deserves some attention, which is why we are writing this article for you. In it, we are going to explore Kaido’s powers and abilities, more specifically, those related to his Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu. We all know Kaido’s famous dragon form, but he also has a very specific and powerful hybrid human-dragon form. That form will be the topic of this article, as we will explain it to you in this article.

The article is going to be divided into two major sections. The first section is going to be focused on the Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu. Namely, this is a very powerful Devil Fruit, and in order to fully explain Kaido’s forms, we have to explain the Devil Fruit behind it. After that, in our second section, we are going to focus on the hybrid form itself and how powerful it is. If you’re not completely up-to-date with what’s happening in One Piece, we must warn you that the article will contain a moderate amount of spoilers.

Kaido’s Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu explained!

The Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu is a mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit that allows its user to fully or partially transform into an Eastern Dragon, specifically the Azure Dragon (Seiryu). It was consumed by Kaidou. The fruit is somewhat pointed and is made up of several pointed pieces similar to the scales of a dragon, being cyan in color with a darker interior where the spirals are found. It has orange greenery at its base and, unlike the rest of the devil fruits, it has a double purple stem.

The fruit allows its user to turn into a huge dark blue oriental dragon, easily reaching several tens of meters in length. One of the fruit’s main abilities is the ability to create clouds of flame, which can allow its user to make the apparent flight by landing on them and even make things float, even levitating an island as large as Onigashima. The dragon form gives its user abysmal resistance, only being damaged by attacks imbued with high-level Busoshoku Haki.

The user also has access to a number of elemental attacks that he can unleash from his mouth. The most common is a gigantic flare with immeasurable destructive capacity. Thus, he can also generate bursts of lightning and invisible air knives powerful enough to cleanly slice off the arm of a combatant like Kikunojo.

Due to the enormous amount of space the user takes up after entering their full beast form, their ability to move in enclosed spaces is greatly hampered. Additionally, depending on the care given to its surroundings, the user’s transformed body is prone to collateral damage and can become a liability to allies. Such a massive body also leaves more openings, making it an easier target for attacks, especially multi-directional attacks from more than one enemy. Although his dragon scales are immensely durable, he is still vulnerable to attacks that, by their nature, can bypass external defenses.

Using advanced and emitted Busoshoku Haki, in particular, can allow enemies to damage the user’s dragon form (even if used by enemies that are physically much weaker than the user), as can attack with infused Haoshoku. Other examples of effective attacks that reach inside the target are those that use powerful sound waves or the surgical techniques of the Ope Ope no Mi. In addition, the user’s signature ability to launch flames of fire can be countered by an opponent who knows flame cutting. In addition to all of these factors, the user is affected by the standard Devil Fruit weaknesses.

It is quite clear that the Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu is one of the most powerful Devil Fruits shown in the series. It grants the user amazing abilities, and aside from the transformation itself, it gives the user a significant power boost. Paired with Kaido’s regular powers, it is quite understandable why Kaido is such a powerful character in the series. Now that we have given you this introduction, let us tell you about the hybrid form itself, as well as how specific it is in comparison to the basic form.

What is Kaido’s hybrid form in One Piece?

The Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu allows Kaido to transform into the “azure dragon”, which is his basic form. In his dragon form, Kaido resembles a blue oriental dragon as large as a city. He has a serpentine body and a dragon head with large whiskers. His expressions remain human, however, and he also retains his original horns (assuming they come from his human form), with other horns not present in his human form.

But, the Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu wouldn’t be such a powerful and interesting Devil Fruit with only one power, regardless of how powerful it is. Namely, the Devil Fruit allows Kaido to transform into a second form as well, the so-called human-dragon hybrid form. In his hybrid form, the dragon horns are always present. He does, however, sport scales along its body and on its head. His canines are also sharper, and the tail is also present.

Still, Kaido walks on two legs and mostly keeps his human appearance, aside from the aforementioned modifications. On top of that, Kaido seems to have an alternative hybrid form which makes him more dragon-like and much stronger; he also has a full set of fangs, a larger nose, and eyebrows similar to his dragon form in this alternative hybrid form. The exact mechanisms of its activation aren’t completely known.

The hybrid form gives the user an increase in his speed and agility, allowing him to use his abilities more effectively in melee combat. However, the strength of the draconic form is reduced and focused on a smaller scale. The user can still access elemental attacks, albeit at a reduced range and power commensurate with the size of the user’s body.

In battle, Kaidou frequently used his powers. He typically begins battles in his full metamorphosis and then reverts to his original shape, unlike most Zoan-type fruit users that have been observed so far. This is because his base form seems more suited to close-quarters one-on-one combat. Kaidou stands far away from his opponents when he faces them in his full dragon form, launching deadly elemental strikes from his mouth, generally a fire blast, to slam them. He has also been spotted biting opponents who are close by.

Kaidou can make clouds outside of battle, mostly using them as platforms for flying. By doing so, he can easily travel between islands by traversing open water, as he did between Onigashima and Wano’s main island. By producing enough clouds, he can also float items, including giants, as demonstrated when he lifted the entire island of Onigashima and directed it toward the Flower Capital of Wano Country as part of his New Onigashima Project.
