Where Does The Witcher Take Place?

It isn’t a secret that The Witcher, which is a story that earned itself a Netflix live-action adaptation, is a fantasy adventure storyline that’s based on the fictional novels written by Andrzej Sapkowski. Of course, we know that monsters and magic exist in this fictional world of The Witcher, as three are plenty of elements of fantasy that can be found in this storyline. So, where does The Witcher take place?

The Witcher takes place in a fictional land called the Continent, which can be found in an unnamed world that resembles Earth and is sometimes referred to as Earth in the games. However, the world where the Continent can be found is not the Earth that we know and is an entirely different world.

Even though there are a lot of similarities between the world of the Continent and the planet we live in, it is important to take note that this isn’t the same Earth that we live in. Of course, it is important to understand the entire multiverse of The Witcher to understand this somewhat confusing concept. Now, with that said, let’s talk more about the setting of The Witcher.

Where Does The Witcher Take Place?

One of the most popular fantasy storylines that we can watch on Netflix is The Witcher, which has earned itself multiple seasons and spinoffs already because of how popular and successful it is. Based on the novels by Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher is an incredibly captivating storyline that combines certain elements, such as magic and monsters, to form a great world that’s full of wonders and terrors.

However, we all know that this world where The Witcher takes place is one that’s full of fantasy elements and has things like magic and monsters. But it kind of resembles the very same planet that we live on, except for the fact that it actually has creatures and races other than humans and the usual animals that we see on a regular basis. So, where does The Witcher take place?

Most of the events of The Witcher take place in a vast land called the Continent, which is home to different cities, towns, settlements, and kingdoms. Of course, the Continent is also home to different races and creatures. However, the human race is the most dominant in the Continent, as they supplanted the elves centuries ago to become the most powerful race on this land.

The Continent, in fact, used to be a place that only housed the elder races, which are the elves and the dwarves. However, an event called the Conjunction of the Spheres allowed the different portals from different worlds to open and connect other dimensions to the world of the Continent. As such, humans from a different world and monsters that come from their own dimensions were able to make their way to the Continent and call it home. And because the humans were a lot more brutal and violent than the elves and the dwarves, they eventually became the dominant race on the Continent.

This storyline is set to be one of the major plots of the upcoming spinoff series entitled The Witcher: Blood Origin, which will tell the story of the Continent during the time of the elves and dwarves and before the first Conjunction of the Spheres allowed humans to enter this world.

Meanwhile, as to the world where the Continent can be found, that is something that is yet to be explored by the series, books, and games. We don’t know exactly where the Continent is and what the world it is located in is called. But what we know is that this world actually resembles the same Earth that we live in.

Does The Witcher Take Place On Earth?

As mentioned, the land where the storyline of The Witcher takes place is called the Continent, which is a vast stretch of land that is home to different races, creatures, and monsters. However, the name of the planet where the Continent is located was never mentioned in the live-action series. So, does The Witcher take place on Earth?

It is highly unlikely that The Witcher takes place on Earth. In the games, the planet was called Earth from time to time, but it was never confirmed to be the Earth that we know. The truth is that the Continent can be found on a planet that may resemble planet Earth, but it really isn’t the Earth that we are familiar with due to the fact that it was never the home planet of humans.

In the games, Earth actually exists as one of the planets that can be found in the multiverse of The Witcher. This planet is often referred to as the cradle of civilization of the human race and is the planet which humans originated from before they made their way to the Continent during the first Conjunction of the Spheres. However, it was suggested that the actions of humans destroyed this planet and rendered it unlivable.

As such, humans made their way to the Continent when they got the opportunity to do so when a portal opened during the Conjunction of the Spheres. That was when they took the Continent from the elder races and eventually became the dominant race in the new world they decided to reside in after the original Earth was rendered unlivable.

Of course, there are a lot of similarities between the world of the Continent and the Earth that we are familiar with. But there are plenty of differences as well, as magic and monsters exist on the Continent. Of course, let’s not forget that humans never existed on the Continent before the Conjunction of the Spheres. That is why it is unlikely that this is the same Earth that we are familiar with, although it is still possible that the world of the Continent is still Earth but is a different version of the planet in the large multiverse of The Witcher.
