Which Heroes Died in the Paranormal Liberation War in My Hero Academia?

One of the things that we know about the pro heroes of My Hero Academia is that they are willing to fight for the side of good and justice, even if it means giving up their lives in the process. Of course, we saw this in the Paranormal Liberation War arc, which is the first true war arc involving an all-out battle between numerous pro heroes and countless villains that all worked together with the Paranormal Liberation Front.
The fact that the Paranormal Liberation War arc involved an all-out war against powerful enemies, such as Tomura Shigaraki and Gigantomachia, means that the pro heroes were not going to get out of it in one piece. It is needless to say that there were plenty of heroes that died in that battle, especially during the awakening of Tomura Shigaraki. So, with that said, let’s look at the list of the heroes that died during the Paranormal Liberation War.
How Many Heroes Died In The Paranormal Liberation War?
Before the release of season 6 of My Hero Academia, we already knew that the pro heroes were going to be in a tough war, especially when we saw that they were secretly planning an all-out assault against the Paranormal Liberation Front, which was a newly established organization of villains under the leadership of Tomura Shigaraki. This war involved almost all of the pro heroes of Japan because they needed all hands on deck, as they even employed the help of some of the students of UA High School.
During the early part of the Paranormal Liberation War, things went smoothly for the pro heroes because the events went according to what they had planned. In fact, they were able to take an early advantage against the villains despite the overwhelming numbers that were on the side of the Paranormal Liberation War.
But it was during the awakening of Tomura Shigaraki that the pro heroes suffered huge losses as he was able to use the massive range of his Decay Quirk to decimate the ranks of the pro heroes. So, how many heroes died in the Paranormal Liberation War?
It is difficult to truly estimate how many heroes died in that battle against the Paranormal Liberation Front, but around 19 pro heroes gave their lives for the sake of the cause. While that number may be big, it is worth mentioning that the pro heroes were able to apprehend 16,929 members of the Paranormal Liberation Front, while only a few hundred of the villain group remained at large after the battle.
Despite basically winning against the Paranormal Liberation Front and apprehending thousands of members, the fact is that the war was mostly a loss for the pro heroes, not only because they lost a lot of brave men but also because the villains were able to get the upper hand on them.
The most important failure on the part of the pro heroes was the fact that Tomura Shigaraki awakened to become stronger than ever and was still at large, together with a few High-End Nomus. On top of that, Dabi dealt a huge blow to pro hero society when he revealed himself to be Toya Todoroki and ended up exposing the things that Endeavor did in the past. In that regard, the pro heroes suffered huge losses not only in terms of the people they lost but also in terms of their morale and in the trust that the people had in them.
Which Heroes Died In The Paranormal Liberation War?
As mentioned, there were a lot of deaths on the side of the pro heroes during the Paranormal Liberation War, and most of the deaths occurred during the time when Tomura Shigaraki awakened and used Decay to decimate Jaku General Hospital and a huge part of Jaku City. A lot of nameless heroes died during the spreading of the effects of Decay. Meanwhile, there were also pro heroes that died due to other means during the war. Here are some of the notable names that died during the Paranormal Liberation War arc.
Eel Boy
Eel Boy isn’t really one of the most well-known characters of the series, but he was still a pro hero that gave his life up for the cause. His death happened quite early in the war, as this was when Twice was still alive. Twice managed to create a double of himself so that he could save Himiko Toga and Mr. Compress in the assault on the base of the Paranormal Liberation Front. Eel Boy was using his Quirk on the pair of villains before Twice appeared and killed him with two stabs at the back of the head.
X-Less
X-Less was one of the pro heroes responsible for destroying Tomura Shigaraki’s tank and was the one who was present when they confirmed that Shigaraki’s heart was not beating. He was the one who was left with Shigaraki’s body before the villain woke up. In that regard, Shigaraki wasted no time with X-Less because he used Decay on him the moment he woke up, as this caused the hero’s body to disintegrate quickly.
Crust
Crust was one of the top-ranked pro heroes that participated in the Jaku General Hospital raid, as he was instrumental in helping the other heroes in the fight against the High-End Nomus. The moment Shigaraki woke up and murdered X-Less, he wasted no time activating Decay to destroy all of his surroundings. Crust and the other pro heroes noticed that the effects of Decay were spreading, as Crust had one final act of heroism when he saved Eraser Head from it. As such, he ended up getting caught in the effects of Decay when he couldn’t find a way to avoid contact from the ground in time.
Nemuri Kayama – Midnight
Midnight was one of the most notable pro heroes that died during the events of the Paranormal Liberation War because she is a known character in the series due to the fact that she worked as a teacher at UA High School. Unlike some of the heroes that died in the Paranormal Liberation War, her death came during the battle against Gigantomachia.
When Gigantomachia was making his way to Shigaraki’s location, Midnight was one of the heroes that tried to keep him at bay by using her Quirk. However, she failed to stop Gigantomachia, as she left her will to the students of UA High School as she fell to the ground, heavily injured. We don’t know exactly how she died, but it was possible that she was too injured and defenseless to fight back against some of the Paranormal Liberation Front soldiers that found her.
Enma Kannagi – Majestic
Majestic was one of the pro heroes that also participated in the attempt to keep Gigantomachia away from Tomura Shigaraki. In fact, he was one of the first pro heroes that encountered the massive villain as he participated in the battle against Gigantomachia by using his Quirk to levitate himself and other pro heroes. However, while we don’t know the exact details behind his death, he was presumably killed by Gigantomachia while the massive villain was on his way to Shigaraki’s location.
Native
Native was one of the pro heroes that participated in the battle against the High-End Nomus that managed to escape from Jaku General Hospital and were spared from the effects of Decay. In that regard, he and the other pro heroes kept the High-End Nomus busy while the other heroes and the students were fighting Shigaraki. Native was attacked by one of the Nomus and even got his arm bitten off. He was confirmed dead after the conclusion of the Paranormal Liberation War, as it is possible that the same Nomu that bit his arm off was responsible for his death.
