Who is Going to be DCU’s Next Batman? Here Are the Top Four Contenders For the Role

When James Gunn and Peter Safran revitalized the DCEU, rebranding it as the DCU, it signaled a major overhaul in casting. Ben Affleck’s departure from the role of Batman was no secret, and Robert Pattinson’s portrayal, while acclaimed, existed within the realm of Elseworlds, separate from the primary cinematic universe.

With nearly the entire “Superman” cast being replaced, speculation now turns to the next Batman actor. Three prominent contenders have emerged, each eager for the coveted role.

1. Glen Powell

Glen Powell has expressed that he’s not interested in superhero roles, Marvel movies, or Oscar-bait films. However, he did admit he would love to play Batman. Powell mentioned that he wouldn’t want to portray Batman in Matt Reeves’ style but would prefer something more like Keaton’s version of the character. While he certainly has the physique for the role, the chances seem slim, as the actor is considering retiring from Hollywood to spend more time with his family.

1. Alan Ritchson

Ritchson didn’t hide his desire to portray Batman; he’s been vocal about it, even expressing a willingness to shout it from rooftops. With the physique and voice suited for the role, he’s garnered a sizable fanbase eager to support his candidacy. For Ritchson, taking on the mantle of The Dark Knight would be a prestigious honor, given Batman’s intellect, array of gadgets, and supercars. As the top choice among fan castings, he’s positioned himself as a strong contender.

2. Jensen Ackles

Jensen Ackles was selected to portray the Dark Knight in the latest fan-made concept trailer, with Timothee Chalamet joining him as Robin. Ackles, who already lends his voice to the character in ‘Tomorrowverse,’ has openly expressed his desire to portray the live-action version. Similar to Ritchson, Ackles possesses all the qualities necessary to embody the iconic role.

3. Winston Duke

Winston is familiar with the world of superhero films, expressing his interest in portraying the caped crusader. He’s fully aware of the potential impact of such casting, given Batman’s traditionally Caucasian depiction in comics and adaptations. Nonetheless, Winston remains determined, openly expressing his desire to secure the role to his fans.

Listen, man, can you start that [campaign]? [Laughs] I would say I challenge you to get on all these socials and push for me. Get your community. I would love to. I would love to do that as Batman. I’d love any opportunity to explore new characters, to change narratives around some of these entrenched ideas of how these characters are supposed to look, sound, and perform. I’m all for it.
