Oda’s One Piece series has introduced us to a variety of amazing and powerful characters. Some of them had a short run in the series, and some had a longer one. Some were more interesting, and some were less. In this article, we are going to talk about an enigmatic character whose role in the story is not quite clear but who seems to be an exceptionally important character and who will, by all means, have a major role in the story’s final arc. The character in question is Imu, the King of the World, and we are going to tell you who he is and what his role in the World Government is.

Imu or Im is an enigmatic figure that has, so far, only been shown as a silhouette. He is part of the World Government and is considered to be the King of the World, as even the Five Elders bow down in front of him. His powers and abilities are completely unknown at the time, but he has enormous political power and influence in the world. He resides in Pangaea Castle in Mary Geoise.

The rest of this article is going to focus solely on the character of Imu, the King of the World, as we bring you everything you need to know about him and his actions. We are going to tell you some information about the history of the character, as well as his role in the whole story. We are also going to answer a series of relevant questions about Imu, the King of the World.

Who is Imu in One Piece?

Imu is a very enigmatic figure. He debuted in Chapter 906 of the manga (titled “The Holy Land Mary Geoise,” released on June 4, 2018), i.e., Episode 885 of the anime (titled “In the Dark Recesses of the Holyland – A Mysterious Giant Straw Hat,” released on May 19, 2019). This was deep into the plot, and Imu’s existence was a complete mystery for a long time, as it was thought that the Five Elders were the highest authority in the series. Not much is known about Imu as a character nor about his overall role in the series, but he is thought to be the King of the World, and that should be more than enough for us not to underestimate his role in the story.

As for his powers and abilities, their full scope is unknown at the time, but the fact that he occupies the Empty Throne, which is perceived as the seat of all the power in the whole world, as well as that the Five Elders, who are thought to be the highest and most powerful representatives of the World Government, bow down before him and address him in an honorific way, implies that Imu is actually the highest authority in the World Government (although that fact, as well as Imu’s own existence, is unknown to the rest of the world). This is further corroborated by the fact that he is known as the King of the World.

As far as the evidence of his power and authority is concerned, Imu seems to have an immensely powerful ability or weapon that allows for the complete annihilation of entire islands in a matter of seconds; this was, at one point, thought to be the Ancient Weapon Uranus and this theory is still not disproven, since Uranus is the only unknown weapon in the series. This unknown weapon operates in the sky, shrouded in clouds, raining down bolts of energy like lightning or lasers that engulf its target in a massive explosion, leaving nothing in its path except destruction.

The weapon’s destructive effects were first seen when Imu used it to destroy the Kingdom of Lulusia in an attempt to eliminate Sabo. It could be primed and fired just seconds after Imu learned Sabo’s location. Imu also owns a saber. He has not been seen with it in combat but has used it to cut up wanted posters or stab photographs with it, so his actual prowess with it is unknown.

What is Imu’s role in the story?

Imu’s story in the plot has been quite scarce, and he has only been seen in a few episodes. Imu walked to a room deep inside Pangaea Castle where a straw hat was kept during the time when nobility from all over the world gathered to attend the Levely in Mary Geoise, holding Monkey D. Luffy’s reward sign in his hands. She then went to the Room of Flowers, where he looked at pictures of Nefertari Vivi and Monkey D. Luffy, tore up Marshall D. Teach and Princess Shirahoshi, and other Marshall D. Teach posters. As the Levely began, Imu sat on the Empty Throne to welcome the Five Elders.

The Five Elders then asked for a name whose existence would be erased from history. In the Empty Throne room during the Levely, Imu met Sabo, the Revolutionary Army’s chief of staff. When Sabo was able to escape, the World Government went into search mode to track him down. After intercepting a frantic message, Imu ultimately located him in the Lulusia Kingdom. He then destroyed the whole island (and the country along with it) with an explosion and asserted that it had never existed.

Imu is definitely a force to be reckoned with. It is unknown how powerful and important he is and what he wants to achieve, but a lot can be deduced from his behavior so far. He seems to want absolute control but from the shadows. Like all the Celestial Dragons, he thinks of himself as superior to all others and probably thinks he is God. This is why he wants absolute power and absolute control, but also secrecy because such secrecy allows him to pull the strings, however he wants without having to answer to anyone, as he does not exist. This is why he wanted to eliminate Sabo after the latter found out about him.

What Imu intends to do and how much actual power he holds is unknown. This is going to be revealed in the upcoming chapters and episodes of the One Piece anime, but he is absolutely and undeniably a force to be reckoned with, and everyone will definitely need to watch out for his moves, as they might prove to be pivotal in the long run.

What does Imu look like?

Imu’s persona has only been seen as a silhouette so far, so we don’t actually know what he looks like. It has to be mentioned that Imu’s namesake from Norse mythology, Im, was a giant, but there is no evidence that the One Piece imu is one; in fact, it is absolutely not know how tall he is, but he does not seem to be among the tallest One Piece characters, although he could be taller than your average bear.

He does have a humanoid figure, more or less, and the one hand of his we have actually seen does look human, but his eyes have completely red irises with odd circular patterns around the irises similar to Zunesha and Mihawk; the color might indicate something non-human, but his overall appearance doesn’t suggest it. He also wears a very strange crown with four incredibly tall and sharp spikes on top and an extremely long robe flowing onto the ground a great distance behind him, which makes sense seeing how he is supposed to be a king. The manga panel from above is the best look we’ve had of him so far.

What is Imu like?

Imu’s personality is largely unknown. However, it is known that he has become particularly fond of Monkey D. Luffy, Marshall D. Teach (a.k.a. Blackbeard), Shirahoshi, and Nefertari Vivi, as was seen by the wanted posters of them he had throughout the Levely events, which included updated incentives and images of the princesses; whether he is fond Vivi is unknown at this time, but there have been some hints towards Imu having some special sentiments towards her.

Namely, Imu, afterward, tore apart the pictures of Luffy and Blackbeard and slashed a picture of Shirahoshi with a saber, thereby demonstrating some tendency toward hatred and violence, but Vivi’s poster is the only one he did not touch. On the other hand, he allowed a butterfly to settle on him in the Room of Flowers, demonstrating that he might also have a soft side.

But, on a general level, Imu appears to be a person who is very cold, apathetic, extreme, and unspeakably merciless, whose brutality surpasses that of the Five Elders because, unlike them, he exhibits no remorse for destroying entire islands along with all of their inhabitants in order to kill one single target, who was actually a guy that threatened to reveal his existence to the Revolutionary Army, which is something that Imu did not approve of. This is the story of how Ohara Island was destroyed.
