Will There Be a Seventh Jurassic Park Movie? (& Will It Start a New Trilogy)

The release of Jurassic World: Dominion has brought about a great conclusion to the story that began all the way back from the first Jurassic Park movie all the way back in 1993. In that regard, it is a franchise that has been around for nearly three decades, as Dominion allowed us to see what could be the end of the Jurassic movies. But is Dominion really the final Jurassic Park movie? Will there be a seventh Jurassic Park movie, and will it start a new trilogy?

It is likely that Jurassic World: Dominion is the final film of the Jurassic movie series, but there is a good chance that the franchise will still go on and even produce more movies that are set in the same universe but could be set in the far future or will follow different characters.

Exactly how the franchise will continue from Dominion isn’t clear and cut out, but that doesn’t mean that the Jurassic franchise is done. There are still a lot of things that could be done about a cinematic universe about dinosaurs, and it will only become more interesting after the events of Dominion. Is Jurassic World: Dominion The Last Movie?

Jurassic World: Dominion has just been released, and it has already become a great hit among different fans of the longstanding Jurassic franchise that has been around since 1993. The movie was marketed as the “epic conclusion of the Jurassic era,” and this could mean that it concludes not only the Jurassic World movies but also the Jurassic Park films.

The first three Jurassic Park movies never really got the conclusion they deserved because the movies were more or less separate from one another in the sense that they did not feature the same consistent cast members, unlike the Jurassic World films. In that regard, Dominion also serves as the reunion and conclusion of the Jurassic Park movies because it was able to allow us to see Alan, Ellie, and Ian on the same screen together for the first time since the first movie. 

But what does that mean for the entire Jurassic movie franchise? While we are aware that Jurassic World: Dominion will conclude all of the six movies, does it really mean that this is the final Jurassic Park movie?

Well, it is possible that this is the final movie of the Jurassic Park franchise because it concludes both the Jurassic Park and the Jurassic World trilogies in a manner that sits well with those who have followed all six of those films. Alan, Ellie, and Ian got to work together for the first time in nearly three decades. Meanwhile, Owen, Claire, and Maisie could now live happily ever after.

So, in a sense, the movie does conclude the six Jurassic movies because of the fact that the characters and their involvement with the storyline have been given definitive endings that fans of the movies can be happy about. But that doesn’t mean that this is the ending for the entire Jurassic franchise.

Will There Be A Seventh Jurassic Park Movie?

We all know that Jurassic World: Dominion is tagged as the conclusion of the Jurassic movies because of the fact that it does give a definitive ending to the storylines of the characters involved. Nevertheless, what does that mean for the future of the franchise? Is it still possible that there will be a seventh Jurassic Park movie?

As mentioned, there is still a good chance that there will be a seventh Jurassic Park movie or that there will be a new one some time in the future, especially because this is a very popular franchise that has consistently garnered great returns from the box office and has made a lot of money in merchandise sales.

So, in a sense, allowing the Jurassic Park franchise to end will be tantamount to sacrificing millions of dollars that the producers and the companies involved could have made. There are plenty of fans of dinosaurs out there, and generations of kids will still continue to be fans of dinosaurs and will still want to watch Jurassic Park movies.

In that regard, there is a good chance that there will be a new movie coming out in the future, especially with how well-received Jurassic World is among dinosaur fans. And, of course, Chris Pratt himself had something to say about the Jurassic franchise in an interview with comicbook.com:

“I think maybe Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame is a similar comp because you’ve got whatever that was… 10 years, 20-something films. All of these characters each had their own stories, their own trilogies, coming together. And you’re like, ‘This is wild.’ You’ve seen these worlds collide. It feels the same way. You’ve got the Jurassic Park trilogy. You’ve got the Jurassic World trilogy, and it’s this big epic conclusion. Now, at the end of Avengers… They’ve continued to make these Marvel films, but that does feel like a phase that is over. It’s rolled over into a new phase, you know?”

In a sense, Chris Pratt, who has appeared in numerous Marvel Studios films, knows what it takes to be in a cinematic universe that involves a lot of different characters and several intertwining stories that used to be unrelated to one another. What he’s saying is that there could be a chance there would be more Jurassic movies in the future, given the fact that there is an entire world of possibilities out there.

The ending of Jurassic World: Dominion also opens up a lot of different possibilities in relation to where the franchise could go. It has an open-ended conclusion where dinosaurs have basically become part of the ecosystem of the world and are beginning to find their place in the environment together with the other animals.

As such, there are plenty of different storylines that could be written about such a world where dinosaurs have now become commonplace. The opportunity to create different narratives about different characters is out there for any of the filmmakers to pitch, and that simply means that there is a chance that this is not the end of the Jurassic movie franchise.

Will There Be A New Jurassic Trilogy?

If there is indeed going to be a seventh movie in the Jurassic movie franchise, we believe that it will be an entirely different story that is set in the same universe as the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World films but follow different characters and different storylines.

So, if that is the case, there could be a chance that there will be a new trilogy that could arise from a possible seventh movie if it indeed becomes a reality. Of course, it all boils down to how fans and critics alike will receive the new movie and how much money it will make at the box office.

Jurassic World and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom have combined for nearly $3 billion at the box office and are two of the top 20 highest-grossing films of all time. That is why it was easy for Universal Pictures to decide on a third movie, as the opportunity for more profits was out there for them to take.

What that basically means is that, if ever there would be a seventh Jurassic movie, the chances of it becoming a trilogy will still boil down to how much money it would make at the box office and in merchandise sales. And that means that we cannot be certain about the chances of another new trilogy in the Jurassic franchise.
