What Happens to Naoto in Tokyo Revengers? Is He Dead or Alive?
Tokyo Revengers presented us with a total of 20 timelines during its run, and Naoto Tachibana was present in all of them. Although he is a secondary character, he is extremely important as he served as Takemichi’s trigger – the one who activated his time-leaping powers – up until the 18th timeline, when Kisaki died. He is Hinata’s brother and supports Takemichi’s efforts to travel back in time and save his sister from death. Well, will he live to see it? Well, with the manga over, we know what happened to Naoto in the manga, and in this article, we will tell you whether he dies in the series.
Naoto is an essential character in Tokyo Revengers and is one of the most important secondary characters
Naoto Tachibana is Hinata’s younger brother. In the current era, before the time jump, he died just like Hinata. However, Takemichi accidentally helped him during the first time leap, and Takemichi confessed to him that he and his sister would die on July 1 and that someone would kill him on the 4th of July.
At that point in his life, he believed in the occult, so he managed to help Takemichi. In the future, he becomes a police officer and after surviving the accident, he teaches Takemichi about Tokyo Manji and asks that Mikey or Kisaki not meet in the past to avoid the events that led to his sister’s death. In the new timeline, Naoto is no longer a police officer but a journalist reporter and is one of those who attends his sister’s wedding.
As you can see, Naoto is a fairly important character in the series. It has to be said that he is definitely a secondary character and someone who is acquainted with Takemichi through Hinata, who was Takemichi’s ex-girlfriend. He was not a gang member; in the first timeline, he became a police officer. His dream, of course, was to become a journalist for an occult magazine, which happened in the final timeline.
So, why are we even talking about Naoto? Aside from being Takemichi’s trigger, Naoto was an important narrative trigger in the series as well. Due to his connection with Hinata and knowing about Takemichi’s ability, Naoto plays a very important role in the series as a whole, and we cannot really skip him when talking about the more important characters in the lore.
On top of that, there is the fact that Naoto was not really tied to the gang world of Tokyo Revengers and in that aspect, he is certainly a rare exception among the important characters we’ve seen in the series, as most of them are tied to the gang world presented in Tokyo Revengers.
But, because of that, Naoto is an important symbol of the danger the gangs presented, as he and his sisters were collateral victims of the chaos and horror caused by the gangs we’ve seen in the series.
This is why his story served as a warning and as a plot device that triggered the numerous timelines we’ve seen in the series and that motivated Takemichi to travel back in time until he was finally able to create a properly peaceful timeline that everyone could enjoy in that aspect.
And that is why we have talked about Naoto, and that is why his story is so important. In light of that fact, we are now going to reveal what actually happened to him in the Final Arc and how his final story, in the 20th and final timeline, played out.
Naoto, luckily, lives through to the end and reunites with his sister in the final timeline, while also getting his dream job
So, in this section, we will reveal what happened to Naoto in the Final Arc. But, since Naoto is not really a major plot element in the Final Arc, we have to tell you what happened there to reveal how Naoto’s story ended. At the beginning of the Final Arc, Takemichi once again returns to the present/future and finally sees that his friends are alive and successful, save for Mikey; Mikey had not been in contact with anyone for 12 years, and Takemichi finds out that he has founded a new gang called Bonten.
He tries to save Mikey, but the two of them end up back in 2008, which is when Takemichi re-established the Tokyo Manji Gang so that he could fight Mikey. The two of them finally have an epic face-off, with the fight ending with Mikey fatally wounding Takemichi. But, just at that moment, both of them are sent back to 1998 and decide to redo everything to avoid all tragedies and create a final timeline that would bring peace and success to everyone.
In that timeline, Takemichi ended up marrying Hinata, while Naoto, who – of course – survived, ended up getting a job as a journalist in an occult magazine, which was his dream job, compared to the police job he had in the first timeline. And thus, as you can see, Naoto survived and got his happy ending when it was all over.
