Now, the world of Masashi Kishimoto’s Naruto franchise is best known through anime and manga, but it has to be said that the series has also spanned several other forms of derivative works, including some very popular video games. Released on November 17, 2023, Naruto x Boruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections is the latest addition to the video game series based on Kishimoto’s franchise, and a character from the series stood out so much that we decided to write a whole article dedicated to her. As we have explained in our introduction, Hikari Uchiha is a character who debuted in the Naruto x Boruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections video game that was released only recently and has received positive reviews. Hikari Uchiha is a villain in the game, and in this article, we will present her story to you and tell you why she is so popular and important, as well as how she fits into the lore.

Hikari Uchiha was born into a branch of the Uchiha family; her parents gave her the name Hikari, which means “light” in Japanese because they wanted their daughter to spend as much time in the sun as possible. And it all seemed cheery and sunny and happy for a while until her parents died during the chaotic Warring States Period. This was when she was taken in by her relatives from the Uchiha Clan, and we know from the main storyline that the Uchiha were never contenders for being crowned Clan of the Year, and Hikari experienced that on her skin.

As soon as they took her in, they realized her enormous potential, so they decided to completely dehumanize her – they locked her up, referred to her as “it,” and used her solely as a weapon against their enemies. They also renamed her Nanashi, which means “nameless” in Japanese, thereby robbing her of her personality completely. Her powers were so amazing that the Uchiha became a threat, and she was finally sealed thanks to the combined efforts of the Senju and Sarutobi clans. But that was not the end of her story, as the Naruto x Boruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections game revealed.

After about a century, during Boruto’s era, Nanashi was unsealed by Merz and Teguse, who belonged to an organization known as Zero. They manipulated Nanashi’s hatred for the shinobi who had sealed her and promised a world of chaos if she helped them, so the girl agreed to join them. Initially, in the Naruto x Boruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections game, she helps Boruto and follows him along on his journey, but at one point, she activates Zero’s plan but is defeated by Boruto, and her technique is deactivated.

She then returns to Zero and is forced to fight Boruto again, this time because Merz’s control device forces her to face the game’s protagonist with all of her force. She would, however, sacrifice all of her chakra and give it to Boruto so he could defeat Merz. She then dies in Boruto’s arms, but her story is changed when Toneri helps Boruto to travel back in time.

In the past, Boruto freed Nanashi from captivity, and together, they fought the Uchiha clan until Nanashi escaped into hiding. Boruto then told her their true name, and Hikari was, thus, back once again. As we said, she went away from her clan and continued to live a peaceful and humble life away from all the chaos, being grateful to Boruto for giving her her life and a future again.

As far as her powers are concerned, she was one of the most powerful characters during the Warring States Period, as it took the combined effort of the Senju and Sarutobi clans to defeat and seal her; she was so powerful that her own clan used her as a weapon. In the present, though, her powers were less important comparatively, as she was defeated by Boruto twice, but she was still exceptionally dangerous and powerful, which is why Merz decided to use her as a weapon.

As far as her techniques are concerned, she was a master of the Fire Release, which shouldn’t come as a surprise, seeing how she is a Uchiha. She had the Sharingan but was also able to use the Mangekyō Sharingan, which made her very dangerous. Thanks to that, she was able to use the powerful Engraved Tsukuyomi, as well as a special genjutsu called Yachihoko.
