Eiza González has never been shy about making a statement on the red carpet. Back in 2022, she turned heads at the London premiere of ‘Ambulance’ in a blue custom Burberry halter gown, debuting blonde hair that surprised fans and fashion watchers alike.

This year, the Mexican actress has had plenty to celebrate. She plays Violeta in Boots Riley’s absurdist crime comedy ‘I Love Boosters’, which opened the SXSW Film & TV Festival with its world premiere on March 12 before hitting theaters in May.

Now, González is back in the British capital, this time for the 70th BFI London Film Festival. The milestone edition runs from October 7 to 18, featuring 251 features, shorts, series and immersive works from 88 countries.

For her appearance, González chose a striking black ensemble that balanced sensuality with elegance. The look featured a delicate lace bodice with thin spaghetti straps, flowing into a sheer black tulle skirt that gave the outfit an airy, romantic movement.

She kept the rest of her styling polished and simple. Her long brunette hair fell in sleek, glossy layers past her shoulders, while subtle jewelry and soft makeup let the intricate lace take center stage against the festival’s bold, colorful backdrop.

González’s trip to London coincides with a major moment for her latest film. ‘I Love Boosters’ is one of the festival’s international premieres, part of a programme that also includes Tony Gilroy’s ‘Behemoth!’ as the Patron’s Gala.

The movie follows the Velvet Gang, a shoplifting trio made up of Corvette (Keke Palmer), Mariah (Taylour Paige) and Sade (Naomi Ackie), who steal luxury fashion and resell it at a discount in Riley’s hometown of Oakland. Their target is a cutthroat fashion mogul played by Demi Moore.

The ensemble also includes Poppy Liu, LaKeith Stanfield, Will Poulter and Don Cheadle. In a festival preview, The Strand Magazine singled out González, Liu and Poulter for offering scene-stealing moments every time their characters appear on screen.

González has been vocal about how much the project means to her. After the film’s release, she took to social media to share that she deeply loves the movie for many reasons, praising Riley as a director who doesn’t play by anyone’s rules and follows his vision with conviction.

She also noted how rare it is for actors to get the chance to try something truly new. González thanked Riley for giving her that opportunity and said she felt proud of both her character and the entire team behind the film.

Her excitement makes sense given the buzz around the project. One festival-goer who caught it during pre-festival screenings described it as so much fun, calling it the kind of film they might have missed if not for events like the LFF.

González joins a packed lineup of talent passing through London this month. The festival opened with Simon Stone’s ‘Elsinore’, a biographical drama about Scottish actor Ian Charleson, and will close with the UK premiere of Jesse Eisenberg’s ‘The Debut’.

Screenings are taking place across 7 venues, including BFI Southbank, the Royal Festival Hall and the Prince Charles Cinema. With Screen Talks from the likes of Andrew Scott, Cynthia Erivo and Sofia Coppola also on the calendar, the 70th edition is shaping up to be one of the event’s most glamorous years.
