Pierce Brosnan Praises Callum Turner as the James Bond Rumors Heat Up
Few actors understand the pressure of playing James Bond like Pierce Brosnan. He played 007 in 4 films from 1995 to 2002, and fans still look to him whenever the conversation turns to the next actor to take on the role.
That conversation has rarely been louder. Amazon MGM Studios is developing the next Bond film with Denis Villeneuve directing, and final auditions are reportedly taking place in London as the search narrows.
Callum Turner has become one of the leading candidates, with Variety naming Jack Lowden as the other frontrunner. Now Brosnan has offered some warm words for Turner. “Oh, I’m just an audience member now,” Brosnan told Vanity Fair. “I’m just the man in the street who is eager to see who is going to play this epic role of cinematic history.”
He went on to praise the actors in the running. “All the men who are on the list now are actors I admire,” he said. “Callum Turner is someone I’ve worked with, and he’s so strong,” Brosnan added that all the contenders have a voice, a physique and a presence on film, along with longevity as actors. His comments praised the whole field while giving Turner a special mention.
Brosnan’s praise for Turner comes from experience. The 2 actors appeared together in the 2017 film ‘The Only Living Boy in New York’. That gives his comments extra weight. Unlike most observers, Brosnan has worked with Turner directly and seen up close what he brings to a role.
Brosnan also offered encouragement to whoever lands the part. He said he wishes the next Bond the very best of life, strength, and courage. The former 007 added that he is eagerly waiting for the news and the celebration of the next James Bond.
For an actor who once carried the franchise, his excitement suggests strong support for whatever comes next. Brosnan is also optimistic about the creative team. Talking about Villeneuve’s involvement, he said he believes audiences are going to be blown away.

He described the ‘Dune’ director’s work as visionary, praising his camera work and storytelling as visceral and sensuous. Brosnan predicted the film will be truly magnificent. Despite growing speculation, the next Bond hasn’t been officially announced. Showbiz411’s Roger Friedman recently reported that word on the street is that Turner has the role, but Amazon MGM hasn’t confirmed anything.
Other names have also come up during the search, including Josh O’Connor and Jacob Elordi. Turner, meanwhile, has insisted in past interviews that he knows nothing about the role.
Brosnan’s comments came as he promotes Burberry’s holiday campaign. Filmed at Longleat House in Wiltshire, England, the campaign marks the brand’s 170th anniversary and also features his son, Dylan Thomas Brosnan, along with Fiona Shaw, Cara Delevingne and Dwyane Wade.
He is also working on the third season of ‘MobLand’. Between those projects, he is clearly enjoying watching the Bond search from the outside. For now, fans will keep waiting for the official announcement. When it comes, it seems the new Bond will have one former 007 cheering him on.
